Than why aren't all games 1080p/60fps on the ps4?

nothing really to do with hardware, as the PS4 is more than capable. It's basically a beast.

I wouldn't go that far. Its using a very lowend CPU (even by standards of 2-3 years ago) and a GPU that was midrange 2 years ago...... (its not awful hardware but hardly a beast).

This is the first gen in a long ass time to where the consoles are actually using lowend hardware at launch..... (wouldn't classify that as beast). We waited 8 freaking years for a new console in a very drawn out cycle and they give us lowend hardware (once again, its not awful but far from beastly, ESPECIALLY if they draw this generation out again).

PS4 is using a CPU that inferior to midrange Phenom series CPU from 2008 and a GPU that was midrange 2 years ago.......... (1080p 60FPS with that hardware is going to require quite a few settings turned down/off).

Thought the R7 250X announcement was enough AMD GPU news for one week? Think again. Later this February, AMD will start selling a new $149 GPU -- the Radeon R7 265. The R7 265 slots in between the R7 260X and R7 270X.

This card is actually overdue.

AMD took a $140-160 7870ghz and freaking rebadged it a higher price (270x is $200-220).

AMD screwed themselves in the foot by rebadging at a higher price (I personally have NEVER seen that happen in the entire history of video cards) and now they need a good replacement for the $150 bracket

I'm still waiting for the 670 to drop in price -.-

Fyi and it's been 2 years

You missed your chance then. They where selling for $240 in October and a friend of mine picked up an Asus version that's overclocked to stock 7970ghz/GTX680 performance and it was $200 after rebate (plus it comes with $100 in games).

PC is more relaxing for me. Playing games on a consoles for me feels like work because:

  • 30 fps or below. 900P. Strains my eyes. Feels like work

Whats funny is that I was playing games at 60FPS at 1600x1200 12 freaking years ago (not only that but neither my monitor or hardware was considered highend or groundbreaking at the time).

Yea that's been on the back of my mind as well.. There callin' for what.. q3, q4? For $750 id imagine a single 8 series card would be able to max out 1440p.. id hope.

It was originally scheduled for early summer but TSMC got delayed a ltitle bit (its looking like July-Sept so Q3).

$750 on a single 20nm gpu (GTX 800) should be pretty beastly. The current $750 graphics card (GTX 780TI classified) is a tad faster than a GTX 690 which is 2x680s on a single GPU (die shrink + new architecture should bring the highend 800 series GPU to at least 20-25% faster than a GTX 690).

No way I would pay $500 for a 4GB 670

You could sell your 670 4GB for $300-400 a long with using that $500 you saved to easily get a third party 780Ti

why does everyone keep saying this? the 770 is not "basically a 680"....

Its a G104 with the same core configuration and the only difference is it comes with a nicer VRM that allows higher clockrates (its like comparing the 8800GTS 512mb with the 9800GTX).

The only reason the bandwidth is higher is because the clocks are slightly higher than the 680 and the 680 also came in a 4GB models as well.... (your really reaching for a difference).

In terms of technical specs and performance, it is basically a 680 ( I fail too see a significant reason as to why it should no be labeled/compared in the same category as the GTX 680). Its a 680 with an upgraded VRM that allows slightly faster clock rates......

A prime example of why not to use Hwcompare tp gauge gpu's.

Pretty much. Techpowerup is way better (they update there drivers consistently and use 16-18 games at 4 resolutions versus just posting a bunch of random numbers).

Ok, so that's a superclocked with good cooling 780ti against stock AMD 7990? what happens if you go against third party 7990 like the Windforce?

1. Of course its overclocked. I clearly wrote "780TI classfield is faster than the GTX 690/7990 out of the box"

2. Good cooling isn't 780ti's fault. GTX 690 and 7990 have there own coolers for 90% of there models.

3. There is no third party 7990 windforce (im really confused). The gigabyte model (just like 90% of the other models) used the stock red three fan design (do you even know what your talking about ?).

All of the GTX 690s are clocked at 1019mhz (even the signature models) and the 7990 (almost every single model regardless of brand) is clocked at 1000mhz........

I think your confused on how these dual cards work. Due to heat and power requirements of dual cards(690/7990/590/6990), its pretty rare to see true third party models (by true third party models I mean cards with their own cooler and factory overclocked).

For the most part, coolers and clock speeds are the same regardless of brand so my point is 100% correct (780ti classfieid is faster out of the box than a GTX 690 which are pretty much all clocked at 1019mhz and the 7990 which is clocked at 1000mhz).

Its not the 780Ti's fault that there isn't a TRUE third party 690/7990 so it shouldn't be punished as so (780Ti is equal if not faster out of the box and has actual overclocking headroom).
