I'm a fan of the MG series, but have found the overall trajectory of the story to be insanely overcomplicated and muddled with philosophical mumbo-jumbo. Is it just me, or does there seem to be some cultural lag in terms of Japanese games. I've always found that "Western" games typically had more compelling stories.

No, I thought it was dreadful. It showcased all the worse of Nintendo. Useless peripherals coupled with rehashed versions of hallowed franchises. Nothing new, nothing exciting. Especially when you contrast it to the efforts of Microsoft and Sony.
