Perfect injection of innovation, quality gaming and drum beats for PSP!

User Rating: 9.5 | Patapon PSP
So you are a hands-on God to a buncha eyeball looking warriors who only respond to beats of a war drum in their search for IT! Sounds awesome!? Damn right it does. Patapon is by far one of the most innovative and original titles seen in a long time on any system and it is awesome it landed on PSP!
Now this is a rhythm based game, however dont expect some amazing game score. It is all done in a simple manner of you executing a set of beats to order your patapon's to fight, move, defend and so on. May seem boring but it is the strategy depth that allows you to combine such simplicity in such a way that it becomes a very complex combat with you beating the drum beat of the war! In addition, that is broken also with occasional rhytm minigames such as shaking of junk from a tree's head, summoning up miracles of nature which is very reminiscent of Parapa or even Gitaroo Man to an extent.
As for the RTS elements of the game, expect a hell of a lot more than you would think that "at the first sight cutsie" game would deliver. You have to manage your resources in order to keep your forces fed, you have using another set of resources to gear up and organize your units/squads, and than to add another element you have learn by trial how to utilize materials to create even more powerful Patapons which eventually become a must to beat the game. So yeah be ready for some serious depth here s well!

As for the battle style and type, you move through the game based on missions. You have boss fights which are also repeatable with bosses increasing in levels. Point of these is to get better resources and eventually strenghten your forces. Secondly you have the hunt mission which supply ur forces, get you cash and are generally used to bolster your units thru seasoning them in a fight. Yes, the game goes that far...unbeliveable ain't it!

So to sum up, PAtapon is awesome deep, creative, and it has a pretty solid learning and difficulty curve. There is no online mode but the replay is there and it definitely doesnt feel like its needed. This is a must own title, but do keep in mind that you have to have an open...well, mind!
