"Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is filled with fun gameplay and innovative style, though it lacks in it's value."

User Rating: 8.3 | Mario Kart: Double Dash!! GC
I've been a huge fan of the Mario Kart series, from Super Mario Kart to Mario Kart 64, i've had a good time of a fun racing franchise. Playing with Nintendo characters and being able to lay traps and send shells from a distance away is what makes Mario Kart a classic series. What makes Mario Kart: Double Dash!! unique you ask? This time, you can have two characters on a kart, and co-op mode is a feature. The controls are easy to understand, and easy to cooperate with your partner when playing co-op mode on multiplayer. The gameplay is simple, one character is driving, and the other throws the items. You can also switch with your partner incase you get tired of driving or have a special item you want to use. Of course like the other Mario Kart titles, there's a 50cc class, 100cc, and 150cc. Going through the Grand Prix enables you to unlock new characters, karts, and tracks. There are a total of 16 tracks, which disappointed me, I expected more. You can also go through the tracks backwards after unlocking the Mirror Cup, just incase your bored of going the same way over and over again. Rainbow Road is still in the game, which it is in every Mario Kart title, so I wasn't disappointed in that. The graphics of this game are very nice. Track designs are well done and shows the real meaning of the tracks name. The desert track amazed me on how realistic it looked, making it blury from a distance. There are also sparks when you do a powerslide, which is a new feature in the Mario Kart series. The karts are well designed and gives off that goofy look to some characters. Waluigi has a low-rider and and Baby Mario and Luigi have a baby crib. The characters are well designed also. The audio on each track really shows the design. Some of the music is a zany, happily kind of theme, which is what Mario Kart is all about. The sound effects are well done, especially on the items. The characters each have a taunt sound that they make, which is a nice addition. They also scream when they get hit or crash into something. Overall the sound is great! Overall Mario Kart: Double Dash!! is a fun multiplayer game that can be enjoyed by everyone, but for a limited time. The replay value is not very high. You'll probably only go through the Grand Prix once, it's not that fun anymore since you can't unlock anything else. The multiplayer is the only thing that should keep you playing for a long time. The battle modes are fun, but can get old very early. I would recommend buying this game ONLY if your a fan of the Mario Kart franchise. Renting this game before buying it would be a good idea, though you will probably beat it when renting it.
