Mario Kart: Double Dash is a Fun and Exciting Racing Game!

User Rating: 8.5 | Mario Kart: Double Dash!! GC
Mario Kart: Double Dash is part of the whole Mario Kart series. The main games in the series are Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart 64, Super Mario Kart, and Mario Kart: Double Dash. Out of all of them, I find Mario Kart Double Dash the best but just slightly ahead of Mario Kart DS.

The graphics were nice and sharp. The game uses nice bright colors and everything looks great. The colors were used appropriately and were distributed well. Some tracks had much more detail than others and some were much more colorful than others. For example, Rainbow Road got its name from all of its colors and of course, has as many colors as a rainbow. The graphics in this game are pretty much flawless.

The sound was okay. I'll divide it into two parts. The first part are the sound effects. This part was great. You could hear engines revving up, items being thrown, shells bouncing of walls, and more! If two karts collided, a small "crash" could be heard.

However, the second part are the characters. Quite often, when a character is picked, they would shout out a type of catchphrase. For example, Mario would shout "It's Mario Time!" and Daisy would shout "Hi, I'm Daisy!!" This gets extremely repetitive and annoying. And Daisy, we all know who you are! You don't need to repeat it. I think that the developers could have thought of more things for each character to say.

The game itself is quite fun to play and is addicting. The new feature about this game is that there are two players per kart! Yes, this means that you can have multiplayer with only one kart. Player One sits in the front and drives while Player Two stays in the back and manages the items. You can hold up to two items because of this. One in the front, and one in the back. Some other multiplayer modes are battle. There are three different types of battle: Balloon Battle, Bomb-omb Battle, and Shine Thief. My favorite is Bomb-omb. In this mode, you have to collect bombs, and try to blow your opponents up. If you do, you get a point. However, if you are blown up, you lose a point. The first person to get either three or four points is the winner!

In balloon battle, items are on the ground. Pick them up and fire them at your opponents. If you hit them, they'll lose a balloon. If you lose all of your balloons, you lose. The last person to lose their balloons wins. This mode is also in Mario Kart 64. The final battle mode is Shine Thief. In this mode, you must find the Shine Sprite, and pick it up. When you do, a timer will appear. You must hold on to the Shine Sprite until the timer runs out. However, your opponents will be firing items at you. If they hit you, you'll lose the Shine Sprite. Then they'll have the chance to pick it up!

The game is fun in single player but it sometimes gets boring. However, multiplayer never seems to get old. You can just keep playing and playing. If you have a sibling or friends that come over often, I highly recommend that you get this game. If you don't, you should still get it, but it shouldn't be the only game in your GameCube collection.
