A solid follow up to the old SNES Mario Kart game.

User Rating: 8.5 | Mario Kart 64 N64
Mario Kart 64 hit the N64 on February 1st, 1997 and the system was never the same. All your favorite Nintendo characters are back to grind it out on kart to kart action.

Gameplay: This is a standard racing game. Go from the start line to the finish line. However, the things you do inbetween is like no other racing game on the market. To help you cross the checkered line in 1st place you got weapons and power ups you can use. These weapons/power ups include: Bannanas, Red Shell, Green Shells, Mushrooms, and more. These items are really a blast to use on your opponents. Controls wise it feels like the N64 controller was made especially for this game. Everything just fits and seems smooth to use. The AI in this game is well. On easy mode (50cc) it is easy and on more harder modes (100,150cc) it is harder. You also have an array of tracks and characters to choose from.

Graphics: For an N64 game Mario Kart 64 is pretty graphically impressive. Tracks are really coloful and look really good with low block counts.

Sound: This game sounds awsome. Every move that you make makes it own sound and when you hit an opponent with a weapon your racer cheers on with his own phrase. All characters sound different and karts sound like they are actual go-karts.

Value: Whether you play with your friends or agaisnt the computer there is hours of gameplay to be had with this game.

Conclusion: If you have a N64 and don't have Mario Kart 64 you need to pick it up to add an impressive game to your collection.
