Hello Neighbor - An Attempt at Advanced AI

User Rating: 7 | Hello Neighbor PC

I have played Hello Neighbor since the Pre-Alpha was publicly released, and I have enjoyed all of the early access builds. But my thoughts have changed since the full release was out. If you don't know Hello Neighbor, it is a stealth horror game about sneaking into your neighbor's house to find the secrets of his basement. You play against a so called advanced AI, who counters your every move.

The AI is interesting to play against, but I think it needs improvement. It can get stuck in doors, and if you let him catch you in the bedroom a few times, he will stay in the area, leaving you free to roam around the rest of the house. Even though it has some flaws, it is fun to play against.

I semi quickly beat Act 1's house on my own, but had to turn to online guides to finish the basement. The puzzles since then have been ridiculously hard, and the internet was my friend. I think the puzzles are too hard, and I don't have fun trying to figure it out.

I enjoy the stealth element of the game, but since the traps don't technically stop you in your tracks I see broadcasters speed-running throughout the house, not really caring about the neighbor catching them. If the game had stayed like the Pre-Alpha, then the game would have been more stealth like.

Not being all negative here, I enjoyed the latest builds, but I wish the game had stayed in a smaller setting, like the Pre-Alpha or Act 1. The latest houses don't give me that stealth feel, as the neighbor could be anywhere.

Despite negative comments on the animation and artstyle, I think it is cute and a charming look for an indie game like Hello Neighbor. I find it interesting on how it plays out with the creepy theme of sneaking into your neighbor's house.

Personally, If you followed the game on Youtube and/or are thinking of checking it out, buy it on helloneighborgame.com. I think you might enjoy it.
