I live in Canada and our currency is basically the same as the US but our games are still $10 more and we have more tax on it too, used to be 15% after purchase and now its 14%
So when I buy a new game such as CoD 4 or any other game they are always tagged $69.99 and by luck if its not that publisized its gonna be $59.99 so $69.99 plus tax gets me to around $80 something dollars per game.......that is HELL OF ALOT OF MONEY for a 14 year old with no job
You notice that allot of DVDs are the same price. I believe the games need to stay where they are because it supports the economy. There is nothing wrong with the economy right now. The economy has just dropped a little bit but it will go back up. It has happened in the past. Games are expensive to make. Developers and Publishers cant drop the price of low content of games because when they do that, they can run out of money.

yea back in 1929, it took over a decade to get back on track
i think its to expensive, remember back in the day when they were 40. if every game was 20 then there would probily be a lot more gamers, it would be no big deal if the game was crappy....o i just waisted 20 on this game meh only 20.
some other countries people pay around 75 for new games....

uhhh..no..i remember back in the day N64 games were between $10 and $80 though...
i truly dont mind payin for a game like call of duty or gears of war with a 65 dollar price tag. But when they expect u to pay 60 dollars for games such as turok, the club, and lost odyssey, i bleive that is outrageous. Games such as they where they arent as good should be marketed down to to 45 dollar price tag.Jo023
Gtfo. Lost Odyssey is the best RPG by far.
This is all just buisness. They know if the games continue to sell they'll keep up the price. I agree dvd's too are real expensive. I mean just to keep and watch a movie. 25 bucks, heck ill just download movies or watch in a theatre. Also why is blue ray's dvd's pricing out of the charts, no wonder they suck
I think makers need to price their games according to value. A lot of games seem to deliver less content than they should.(for example) I love CoD4 but a 5 to 6 hr campaign seems kind of cheap. At least Vegas 2 and GTA4 should provide enough content to justify the price. I just wish more games did. HilbillyRokstar
i dont think games are over priced. sure it seems expensive to be paying $60 for a little cd and a plastic box. but the gaming companies need to make money to make more games. and games with little valua that are overpriced, will not sell well at all and will quickly fall in price to a more appropriate price range.
the only overpriced area in gmaes is the old 360 games are still being sold for $30. these are 2 year old games that i would want to paly, but they are not worth $30 IMO.
they should still be at 49,99 i know n64s costed 49,99 ,, as did gamecube xbox ps2 and wii does,, its mainly ps3 and 360 that are so expensive, , especally when they do not have many split screen games, mariokart64fan
i think its because the ps2 is still selling a lot of games and it would be weird for a new ps2 game to sell for the same price as a Next-gen game.
Personally I'd be very happy if games in the UK were sold at the price US peeps get. What's your average game price? $60? That's a tiny smidge over £30 here - great! Especially when you consider games will reguarly retail here for £40 or even £50. GHIII with a controller is charged at £75 - that's nearly $150.
Games are expensive? Don't make me laugh, lol. Your games only cost $60, thats only £30 in the UK.
I was in Gamestation today (a major video game retailer in the UK) and I saw NFS ProStreet and Burnout Paradise retailing at £49.99 each, thats $99.44!! And you think your games are expensive!
They are only that price for a short while, so if you want the game at launch you pay extra for it. Anyway $60 is cheap compared to the UK, where a game at launch is typically £40 ($80), but can be £50 ($100) if its popular, or special edition stuff.
I'm happy to wait a month or two, then pick it up cheap, either new in an offer, or from a preowned store which gets flooded with the new release games. There are over 25 used copies of Assassin's Creed in just one of my local stores - so why pay full price for it?

I agree but to be honest £40 is not that much i would never buy a game for over £40 unless it was a special edition.
I would like to answer to multiple posters on this board
1. cartidges were more expensive to make thats why they were so expensive back in the day. producing CD's are way cheaper.
2. Complaining about the price of games or any product doesnt make anyone cheap. consumers can make a difference in price drops. The declining of Music CD purchases have dropped there prices (used to be $20 back in the day)
3. Game prices can be jacked up because the consumers may be paying for the advertising costs. (see EA)
4. I understand there are development costs involved in a game but if you make a great game you can lower the price and make up the costs with demad. 2k sports did well with there $!9.99 titles.
5. game developers ae payed by salary so they get there paychecks up front. The key for them is to sell a lot of units regardless of price
6. someone explain to me why PC games are cheaper than consoles.
