Which game has the Best Story ever?

which game do u feel has the greatest story that u have played?

mine would have to be half-life or GTA4

Kingdom Hearts series handsdown. Anyone who has played the games will agree. Second place I would say God of War series

No game story can come close to Xenogears complexity.

Mass Effect is one that comes close, but only because that it's game world was so well made and is very detailed.

BUT my favourite overall story (game + universe) would have to be Halo. Love the games, love the books, love the comics, and i hope to love the movie, if it ever gets made.

Gotta agree except Xbox 360-Lost odyssey.

Mass Effect's story was really good, but the best I have ever played... The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. When that game came out, wow. That sh** was masterful.

It's hard to believe that the best story that some have ever played was in a GTA game... : (

Anyway i'd probably say KOTOR.

However Bioshock also had a great twist that basically laughed in your face the entire time you were playing. That twist is actually too clever for its own good. But yeah probably KOTOR, Mass Effect was good but it was basically KOTOR.

Mafia! I absolutely loved that game.......good times.

Mass Effect (X360)

The Legend of Dragoon (PSO) - Wish they made a second one.

Lost Odessy (X360)

Assassins Creed (X360) - The story wont click right away but after seeing all the secret stuff at the end it makes me wonder about the second one.

Final Fantasy VII (PSO) - May be overrated but nevertheless awsome story.

Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES) -All time fav.

Chrono Cross (PSO) - For sure another game one should get aquainted with.

Call of Duty 4 (X360) - Some people may disagree but compared to CoD and CoD2 the story has greatly improved due to not being limited to WWII which already has a story I suppose.

KoToR I & II (XBOX) - II had lacked but still had a great story nontheless.

Half-Life II (X360) - LOL ONLY game that will make it on the PS3 platform, go figure.

Right now the PS3 is on a really LOOOOOOOOOW point in its life so nothing but Orange Box for PS3. Maybe the platform will do better...nahhhhh who am I kidding ;P

BTW whoever said God of War has a good story is seriously mistaken, it has the MOST unoriginal story, why? Look at Greek mythology, its all been done. I do admit that the game does have awsome gameplay however.

Bioshock, I thought, had a really good story, but they messed up with the pacing. The dramatic climax was way before the technical climax.

I know that this is a lame answer, but I haven't found a story that I liked as much as FFVII. Although I have to admit that FFVI is up there too. More recently I think that they game stories that most caught my interest was all of the Ratchet and Clank games (pre-PS3) and God of War. I have to admit though that I am fairly picky about my games.

I would have to say that I love Bioshock's storyline.

There are soon making a sequal and a movie out of it.

Fallout anyone? Always loved those stories and can't wait for the third one...Fallout is pretty much to thank for the whole postapocalyptic setting in the videogame world.

Also, I'd have to agree with those saying Xenogears. Completely memorable RPG, more so than FFVII (for me).

Metal Gear Solid 1+2+3 is first place. The MGS story is by far the greatest. Second will have to be Mass Effect. Third will have to be GTA4. Althought 2nd and 3rd could go either way.vidiofreak

Just to inform you, there was no Master chief that did all those things, there was no Marcas Fenix doing all those things, there was no mario saving a princess god knows how many times, there was no ALOT of things that did ALOT OF THINGS

newbies...mass effect is okay...but Biowares ealryer efforts are MUCH better story arc (and gameplay)....

PLANESCAPE TORMENT....has the best story of ANY game

1: KoTOR (best wtf moment ever!)

2: Mass Effect (the whole game felt like big budget movie)

3: The Witcher (loved the who-dun-it mystery part in Vizima)

4: Bioshock (after I got over the fact that it is more like a FPS than an RPG, enjoyed it but got to the big twist at the end and thought "is that it?")

5: KoTORII (basically KoTOR on steroids but with all the side effects, patch is still in the works from a 3rd party group http://team-gizka.org/index.html )

haha how can you make fun of god of war when you list legend of dragoon and assasins creed?? seriously your opinion is void. if there is one game that should NEVER EVER EVER have a sequel made...its legend of dragoon...worst game ever....

how old were you when you played it? Legend of Dragoon is the most convoluded/simple crap...its hard to follow, AND the themes in it are very simple and childish, that is a bad combination....ALSO the gameplay was attrocious. "Go to DRAGON CAVE, and get the DRAGON EGG, then return to the DARK FOREST, and then go to the DRAGON SUMMIT"...every fight took a half hour...over and over and over, worst jrpg ever

also, just because gow is based on greek myth doesnt make it unoriginal, most stories get retold countless times, in countless different ways...the story might be old, but its good, and its not too complicated and too dumb at the same time (like legend of dragoon)
