Which game has the Best Story ever?

I know this is 360 forum, and I am a 360 player but for me the game with the best story is..

HEART OF DARKNESS - PS1

It's a boy battling demons in order to save his dog? What else do you need?

While I know alot of people may disagree with me, I absolutely loved the story of Shadows of the Damned. One of my favorite games of all time.

Three year old thread of gaming goodness! I love reading what people like, especially if the list/game is differnt than mine and by some stroke of bad luck/timing/stoopidity means I haven't played it.

My list:

1) Portal

2) Bioshock (original ONLY)

3) Alan Wake

and last but certainly not least...

4) Duck Hunt... because that dog is UP to something and one of these days I'ma figure out WHAT.

Zelda: Majora's Mask.

I am going to go way back and say FF III (or FF VI). That story was incredible because there were so many characters and they were all involved and they all had their own motivations for joining the party. Amazing game, best RPG ever made.

To be honest, stories/storylines have never been of any interest to me in videogames, for me it's all about gameplay. How i go about completing my

objectives are paramount, how a game might offer me different paths or routes to that end is the creative factor i seek. How i play, how i do, is all i ever care

And it's because of this that we get stuck with one generic call of duty or call of duty clone after another.

1.Maniac Mansion 2: Day of the tentacle.

2. Conker's Bad Fur Day.

3. Monkey Island 1/2.

All time greatest can't be found on the 360 :P. I'd say that honor goes to Grim Fandango. For 360, I'd go with Bioshock.moose_knuckler

Kotor IMO. First game whose story totally sucked me in.

Oh man the list goes on for me on this...

I cant really choose one favorite because I like them all for different story reasons...

I don't think anyone has metioned this yet and I can't beleive that.

On Xbox 360 it has to be the Mass Effect series. Of all time I would say Final Fantasy 7 or KOTOR.

No game story can come close to Xenogears complexity.

Mass Effect is one that comes close, but only because that it's game world was so well made and is very detailed.

My thoughts exactly but I dont think mass effect had that complex of a story.

Xenosaga/Xenogears and legend of mana, all of which are not on the 360... D:

final fantasy 7, i was about 11/12 when i played this and it was probably the first game i played that had a detailed story and sparked my love for more story driven games.

Kotor 1, i love star wars and i love Rpgs what else is their to say except DAT TWIST! plus i was a little bit in love with bastilla.

Bioshock, would you kindly?

God of war, always been a huge fan of greek myth so this game was a no brainer to me, seeing kronus crawling through the desert with pandora's temple on his back gave me nerd chills.

Lost odyssey, hadnt played a J-rpg since ff9 but this spurred my love for the genre again (plus it was like 5 bucks!), oh and SCREW YOU KILLALON!

Theres probably tons more but thats all that comes to mind atm.
