yeah im not sure why the bumped it up an extra 10 bucks. i think that 50 was reasonable. sure i would love to pay 30 or 40 but thats just not fair and the quality of games would go down due to smaller budgets due to smaller expected profits.

Console games had been $50 since I started getting into gaming, thats the way it should have been, PC gmaes are still $50 for the same damn game. But because we own a console we gotta pay $10 extra for no reason other than because.

And sports games should only be $30, theres no need for them to be full price thats a waste and outright robbery to pay full price for last years game with a new roster.

they should lower it to $40! this way its cheaper i think a lot more people would get into gaming. cliffy B "gears of war making". said that games should be $20. i totoaly agree with him when he said this couple years ago. this would bring more gamers the game would be cheap. "i got a horrible game, o well atleast i only payed $20 for this game" thats how i want to feel when i buy a bad game.

i think it should be $25, then everyone would buy games, instead of just renting them.

i mean they end up being $25 a few years down the road anyways, why does it change? why can they afford to drop the prices later on? did the game get cheaper to make or something

Publishers, developers, marketing firms and retailers all demand a cut from the 60 dollar rate. With publishing costs only rising to make better and better games that we as consumers demand we will continue to have to pay a premium unless you want 3rd party garbage games like the wii offers.....anyone feel like playing happy-fun carnival games on their 360 for only 39.99? No? I didn't think so...

machiavell8x8

hell they could sell the game to us for 10 bucks if they wanted too, but they must meet the costs it took to make the game, and to make a lil profit all at once. And since games on PS3 + 360 are getting more advanced, requiring more coding, animation, dialogue, multiplayer (which is a real pain to make), than last gen, they are charging the consumer more than usual. higher quality game = higher costs = higher price for consumer. They sell it for 60 bucks because it JUST came out and the only way you can get is by paying for that price. the reason why they sell it for cheap later is because by that time the company has sold X amount of units, and they milk the consumers by lowering the price bit by bit....

I say it depends on the game. Craptastic titles like Assassins creed, army of two, bullet witch, x-men, fantastic four, etc etc etd should be launched at 40$. Huge titles like GTA4 and NG2 definitly should be 60$ and I wouldnt mind paying that price for it.

Edits...

Did I just say 40$ for craptastic titles. Make that 30$ and under. I had to force myself to play bulletwitch.

It has nothing to do with the 360 but games in general. Be happy that they are stuck at 60 dollars/euros, PS3 games go for 70 -75 euros in my country. As long as people keep buying them the price will stay the same and people will keep on buying them.

its about preference. people buy them, thats why theyre here. the prices of console games are splitted in alot of things. tax, money for devs, money for the console corp, money for the store. PC games all that without the share for the console maker. thats why they are a bit cheaper

Over here in Australia, based on the results of EB Games, generally new release games are $100. If the new released game happens to be over-hyped or popular it is usually $119. As for new release but known to be a horrible, repetitive, waste of time game, it usually goes around $60 dollars or below. Other stores over here such as JB HI FI generally sells the games cheaper than 90% of the stores.
As for the question, how much "SHOULD" they cost? I would say all new released games should be about $75 and games been on shelves 2 year prior to release date should be considered classic with a $35 tag on it. Games that are based on popularity used from stores such as EB and GAME should be taking into account, I wouldn't want to spend a heck load on a game without knowing how good or pathetic it is.

My games may be cheap but I pay double the sales tax of any american and 30% income tax and live in a shoebox of a one bedroom condo that cost $300,000. So, suck it, I'm poorer than you.

Complain all you want but the fact is that there are so many sales on gaming software that you end up paying much less than $60 avg. per game. I got Call of Duty 4 brand new at Best Buy for $37 USD in December 2007. Just wait for store sales or buy used. Nobody is forcing you to pay $60.

Exactly. And even then they aren't making much profit anyway. The lower the price the riskier it gets for developers and the less likely they'll take chances.

I'd love for games to be cheaper too. But if you can't afford it there are plenty of better alternatives (renting, waiting for price to drop, etc.) than complaining about it.

You can't bunch Assassin's Creed in with Bullet Witch... the latter was far more atrocious.

As for game prices... I think that the advent of Game Buy Back programs, like EB Games, are really what caused the prices to jump. Also, as numerous people here have stated, our 60USD is nothing compared to what other countries have to pay.

However, I really do wish it had stayed at 50USD... the price markup has actually caused me to start buying most of my games used. Paying an extra 10USD a game really adds up in the long run... I find I'm buying less games and occasionally deciding between entertainment or lunch some months.

Don't forget that it does cost a developer over 40 million dollars to make those games on the Xbox 360 and PS3 . If a game does not sell enough in today's industry that developer will close down , it forces game developers to not take a risk on a newer software title . You will see a few well known game titles disappear or end this generation .

JasonBourne87

We have to pay the extra 10 because the creator of the console (Microsoft in our case) wants some money for the game you buy as well. The PC platform isn't owned by any company, so no one could claim that price. You strictly pay the developer for PC games, where on console games you pay the console creator too.

I think that games should be at a standard of € 39.99 for first party games and € 49.99 for third party games. It would make the most sense since with first party games Microsoft will get all the money anyway, and with third party games they will get there € 10 share on it.

Games right now are € 59.99 by standard for all games. And I don't get it. The € 39.99 I mentioned earlier for first party games would result in a $ 62.92 price in the US. That only seems fair for us Europeans. Because right now we have to pay the € 59.99 or $ 94.39 for a standard game. And last I checked, we didn't earn more euro's then people in the US earned dollars.

I agree with some above, $50 is fair for your standard game, maybe $40 or $30 for a sports game, and $60 for your collectors edition, depending on what you get. Anyone who thinks games are way to expensive now is simply a cheap btard. Games are of high quality and if any of you work in retail, you know, "a man has to eat". Buy games for what they are worth, even if they are crap it did take quite a bit to make it.

$49 is a fair price -- $39 is even better. Hope a new generation doesn't come out too soon -- the games will cost $79.99 and become too expensive to purchase new! Many thanks to Gamestop -- able to buy games a few months after release at a reduced price.

I really dont mind paying 60$ for titles that have been worked on for years and basically going to be hits. However games that seem like only 6 months was spent on them deserve to be priced at 30$-40$ at release day

And sports games shouldnt even be released at anywhere past 40$ these days because developers have ran out of ideas. Every sports game thats been released by far has minor tweaks and maybe 1 new gameplay mechanic.

retailers make a whopping 5 dollars on a 60 dollar game so places like gamestop make all their profits on selling used games so if people started lowering the prices there would be less places selling games due to loss in profits.
