The Sims is a game where the players create virtual avatars, and take them into a 3D world. The purpose of the game is to interact with other Sims in the game, obtain new decorations for your home and keep your Sim alive. Basic needs of the Sims must also be met, like going to the bathroom, personal hygiene, eating, and sleeping. If these needs aren't met the Sim will starve, wet himself, or if they don't have enough fun, they will get depressed. Each of the actions performed by the Sim changes his personality for better or worse. This game can almost be described as the definition of an ""EveryDay Life"" management game.

I actually played The Sims and The Sims: Bustin' Out on the Xbox. It worked well as a console game, but the item limit was very annoying.

Its an interesting series, I have only played Sims 1 out of them with a couple of the expansion packs. I may try Sims 2 at some point but I want to see how the next one goes and I may get a console version instead. My only issue with the game is the constant expansion packs and some of them are just item based so you get fashion clothes etc in them.

Sims 3 is going to kill the series for the hardcore fans. From the sounds of the credentials, it sounds too simplified to class as a life simulator.

Its not like its free either, so either EA are being really clever and getting IKEA to pay to advertise and they also charge customers to be advertisied to or EA have to pay IKEA to use their brand name and stock in game and then they pass that on to the customer?

I always knew EA would be mad enough to advertise brands, such as McDonalds in NFS: Underground and Cingular from Underground 2.

I missed out on the Sims game and IKEA is totally new to me... lolz it's funny thou. It's difficult to see IKEA in video games :D

I'll admit, I never really got into the Sims. I played the first one and it's first expansion, but that's it. I have no interest in the Sims 2 or 3.

Not that the Sims was a bad game by any means though- it just isn't my kind of game. (On the other hand, I know that my older brother liked the Sims a lot more than I ever did)

I played The Sims 2, but didn't like it. What happened to the goal-driven and simple gameplay of the earlier games? This was just a mess. Then again, I had a lot of the expansions.

I kind of like the sound of 2 over 1 as the first game was more focused on trying to get the happiness balance right by just doing tasks over and over where as 2 seems to look at long term goals and emotions more.

I remember that you can kill your sim if you force them to swim in the swimming pool by refusing to place a ladder for them to get out...

I also like how a bus (or tank if you're working for the army) comes for you to pick you up for you're day job and you're still in bed and it just leaves you. Could anyone wake you up?

The theif comes out from no where sometimes... I wish you can have a sim to punch him up. Like Hulk Hogan character builder or something.

Yeah, I thought that as well. Its like Theme Hospital with slack tounge - cause - reading magazines and watching daytime TV or the invisibility ilness which turns you invisible, some good times in that game.

Agreed, or even better a full sequal but on Live Arcade, DS, PSN, Wii Store etc. They dont need to change the graphics but they could add more detail to it and keep the same visuals otherwise as I think it still does the job and looks good to this day.

Extra missions, new staff types and different rooms etc, I think it could be some sort of bonus content rather than a full expansion and extra visual details such as files in the file system could be joke references or magazines they read on the loo etc. I dont mean a total remake.

Not enough innovation. A remake on Xbox Live Arcade with that may be feasible, but if it was marketed as a sequel I doubt it would really work.

It doesnt need inovation for me, as long as they could put some extras in I am happy, I would be happy with Theme Hospital 1.5 put it that way.

What would be the chances of Wii Vitural Console releasing it... they did it on console games... the Wii remote would be really kool for that sort of management game such as Theme Hopistal.

When I first tried Sims, I was very skeptical about the game. It seemed to me like a girlie game and didn't have much strategy involved. I tried playing for a few hours and then uninstalled it. After a long long time, I got Sims 2 and thought about giving the game another shot, and since then, I've become a fan.

It's a very interesting game. Most of your decisions have instant impact on the game, and it is fun to flourish or ruin the lives of computer people. I wouldn't say all the expansions and packs are useful, but some of them makes the games really interesting.

Girls/Female gamers find customization, friendships and relationships appealing... that is why The Sims is popular among them. Get any game, with those features and they'll be interested.

They're going to condense it, I'm not personally looking forward to Sims 3 because of that. Interesting how the game is turning more and more causal with each passing expansion, a shame really.

I always thought that the Sims series was always, a bit, thin. Not too much depth, but a real time killer.

Wouldn't You Agree?

I played the first one A LOT in college. The second one wasn't that much improved and there was too much waiting time to go places and do things. 3 was supposed to fix that. But, at this point in life, i don't have the hours to whittle away pretending to have a family, when i already have one. Like, i can't keep in touch with friends in REAL life, i dont need that burden in "fake" life. Not really looking forward to it.

I got Sims 3 as soon as I could....was I disappointed? Yes, I was. While the game is quite fun to play, it is in no way the "best Sims game". There's a lot of interesting stuff--actually after playing sims 3, none can go back to the earlier games. I have played the game for 4-5 hours, and I have mixed reactions. While it's definitely a great game, it also has some inexplicable lackings. It's a barebones offer--seems like EA will rely a lot on DLC as well as expansions. They left out lot of nice stuff from sims 2, which I am sure will be introduced in expansions. Probably Sims players will keep on paying EA loads of money for the next 4-5 years or so.

Yeah, and they have taken some interesting steps for discouraging piracy. Although the game doesn't have DRM, as soon as you launch the game, it will automatically take you online. So if you were using a pirated version, the serial code will be blocked instantly. However, there are workarounds (which I won't discuss). Also, you need to register your game in order to post in the official Sims 3 message board, which has created rage amongst the people who have not bought the game yet but wanted to ask some questions and get some information before purchasing.

I have to agree with Dead Man.  I bought it right away and it was cool.  You can customize your character a lot better and what not.  And the fact that you can walk around the neighborhood now without loading screens is nice.  But there's some gaping holes in the game where you can just tell they are going to add an expansion.  For example, when you go eat at a restaurant you see your avatar inside the building but you can't actually see inside the building.  It is fun and my kid loves it but it doesn't feel different enough to impress me much.  If you've never played sims and you're thinking of it then I would say get it.  If price is an issue then if you pick up sims 2 used you probably aren't missing a whole lot of the experience.

EA knows the sims is a cash cow and you can see these massive empty holes in the game from which EA hopes to mine tons of extra money from gamers.

Yeah it is kind of bad how that keeps happening. I am sort of interested in getting Sims 3. I mean on Sims 1 the phone was the main way they expanded along with business pack as you get more options on things like having a house party so AI sims come around etc.

I do like the sound of the game still as I find on the PC I play more of the open ranged games like Football Manager, Sims, Locomotion, Transport Tycoon etc.

I enjoyed the experience of running a game when I was first experiencing computers. This was back when 95 was out, I remember buying computer magazines and reading what the sims was about. I was actully amazed about the concept of having your own avatar and telling it how to live their life.

It's an industry standard now, I think, every game which tries the open world appoach is going for this. However it's only because we have the technology and hardware to produce the content, the developers wants to put into their games.
