Some fine print on the Xbox.com website has revealed that Xbox One voice commands will only be available in five countries. Remember that the Xbox One is launching this November in 13 countries, so it looks like not everyone will be able to enjoy all features of the system when the next-gen console makes its debut.

The fine print states:

    Xbox voice commands will not be available in all markets on the product release date. Voice commands will be available at launch in US, UK, CA, FR, and DE.

[UPDATE] Following the publication of this story, Microsoft issued a statement on the matter. yet, releasing in 13 this year, yet kinect is only fully working in 5? (depends on your spoken language)

well it's harder to translate a console like the xbox to any country. Especially with the TV shows. I mean there's no reason to bother with the cable box if you don't know english.

Don't care. As long as it works in the US, I'm happy.

The reason why is Microsoft obviousl hasn't had enough time to implement every language into each system for all 13 markets. They probably haven't even started it in the other 8 markets, which is probably one of the many reasons for those delays. They are obviously behind in several things and is trying to play catch up so they can launch their system before the PS4.

Man why do these "journalists" twist words these way? I was there when Penello responded on gaf about localisation. It wasn't because of kinect only.

"Besides needing local language support, we also need to prop-up local Live, Apps, a Marketplace, and a variety of other services. We bundle that together as localization in messaging, but there is more to shipping in a region then text and voice translation."

Yeah tough luck there. There are god knows how many different accents on England alone.

In dashboard, and apps most of them should be supported with your language i would expect (but cant know till is actually out in gamers hands) in the case of KINECT VOICE Recog which this topic is all about. NO its not on the list.

I'll bet. I can barely understand Southern American with heavy accents. If you can't understand what they are saying, do you really think the Kinect will? I've been to NC & SC and some of those people I just couldn't understand. Then one of them said I talked funny. lmao!! I told them it was called, "English".

The PS3 was worse as it had no games worth playing. By Jan 2007 gamers were returning systems and Gamestop & Best Buy were overstocked with PS3s. I doubt that's going to happen with the XBox One. The language issue can be corrected with an update. I doubt it'll take that long to correct.

They should offer a discount to those other launch countries. I mean, they are selling them a device that does not work, but they're going to charge them based on the assumption that at a future date things will work properly? Those consumers would be wise to see if they'll ever get the support. Unless, of course, they don't care or just want a X1, then buy away.

uk - english, irish, welsh, scottish.

+ all of the english acents and irish, welsh and scottish accent when they speak english.

ofc only a few english accents will register because microsoft wont cater to their customers needs.

with every passing day it becomes more and more apparent that MS were not prepared to laucnh their console this year
