Sony does release official shipped numbers in their quarterly reports. That link simply referenced a forecast from IDC.

So if you were in a competition you'd rather take 3rd than take 2nd? And the PS3 has been outselling the Wii by a hundred thousand or more every week for over a year now and outlelling the 360 for 3 years now. See people around the world caught on that the PS3 was the best. They just took their sweet time believing it. 

well at least we got the official number from lemmings camp. if sony releases the number...im pretty sure its not the end all argument. lemmings will find something like they did when sony announced its numbers. ps2 is part of the data, ms numbers came out a month before, it probably sold 2mil etc..... there will never be an end to this until the ps4 new xbox comes out

You got your year headstart and were priced $200 lower for a long time. Then that advantage went away and now the 360 is slipping to last.

I would love to have seen the PS3 come out a year ahead of 360 and be priced $200 less than the 360 for 3 years. That would've burried the 360 so deep, they would've been demolished saleswise by PS3.
