Not really... what would it give me... 3 monitors? Wouldn't waste the money on it... Probably buy a new car instead.

Yes, but I'd also do it if I had $5-700 for the PC necessary to experience the good stuff today.

I would rather spend 5000 dollars on a Mitsubishi - Diamond 82" / 1080p / 120Hz / 3D DLP HDTV.

I'm a gamer but I would never spend $5000 in one go on gaming equipment.

Edit: Oh, if the money was given to me? I'd probably buy a new PC but I definitely wouldn't spend $5000 on one.

I'm sure I could think of better things to do with my 5000$ that would last more than two years :P

I love my console and do some indie PC gaming while I'm at school, so the bulk of my gaming is actually PC currently.
But to be hardcore in the PC gaming universe, it takes a certain kind of person. A person that knows all these things about cards and stuff like the back of his hand or is willing to do detailed research on the matter.
I'm not one of those people, so I play old games and indie games, enjoy them a lot, and have spent arond 50$ on games I'll never be able to play :P

But it can if you want it to! $5K isn't nearly enough to display the TRUE potential of PC gaming... not that I know anyone with a $5K+ rig...

I already have a gaming PC, but hypothetically, I would take the money, spend a third of it, be set for 10 years for PC gaming, and pocket the rest...

This is all subjective as to what I would "Need to purhcase" for the experience. Are we talking about just the PC being $5000.00, or does that include moniter and sound system? Does this include buying a comfortable chair and a swanky desk to put the PC on? There are a few variables in the cost of a Gaming rig of any kind, even consoles. When HD consoles came out, most people had to factor in that HDTV into the cost equation for a "perfect" expereince...what about a couch that you could lay out? Surround sound system? There is more to "The Ultimate Experience" than the system itself. My $3000.00 gaming rig could easilly have it's experience ruined by a crummy moniter or crap sound, or poor placement and lighting conditions. One must take all the into account if they want everything possible from the equipment.

Most of you are missing the point. I'm not saying it costs $5K game on a PC, I'm saying $5k so that no one in the console workd would think twice about the answer.

But, I didn't specify what the above poster said.

I'll say it another way:

If someoene told you that they were going to fund your gaming experience no matter the cost....but the only catch was that you could only game on one type...which would it be? Console or PC.

So in other words everything is paid for.

I've only spent ~1k on mine and it can run Crysis on high settings 4xAA 1920x1080 at 50 FPS. Metro I can max out. I don't see why people say PC gaming is so expensive. This is also over 3 years.

Then why mention a price? Why not just say "If you had the ultimate high end PC, would you play it and enjoy it?".

As soon as you stick a price on there, you're suggesting that's the price of the "ultimate" rig. Your own fault, mate.

I'd spend about $1200-1500 on a PC and the other $3500-3800 on DS games.

Yeah, and it doesn't really open a discussion. Of course if everyone had an ultimate rig in their bedroom they would use and enjoy it.

Gotta love how in true SW style everyone has missed the TC's point. He has even made a second post lol. He is telling you the 5k can ONLY be used on a pc, it would only be given to you for a PC. Basically he is asking " if you were given a $5000 PC would you play it? ( no selling it isn't an option)

Honestly, the PC-based flight sim setup of my dreams would be around $500k not $5k.

$5k? That might buy two of the 3 1080p TVs I want (Eyefinity). He He.

If we had to spend the entire 5000 on just the PC, I guess yes I would play it among other things. I'd buy a decent size IPS monitor that's hopefully fast enough to not cause any ghosting while playing. Probably i7 980x, why not, got to blow as much as possible, dual 480s, best liquid cooling solution I can find, three or four 2tb hard drives for data and 1tb ssd for a boot drive. Not sure, all of that might actually cost more than $5000.

It's a silly question. Who wouldn't want a free $5000 product? The misconception here is that having the super PC makes games more fun somehow. He's basically saying a $5000 PC makes games more fun than a $1500 that can play games just as well. That's insane.

Your logic didn't work well here. People would use or want anything if it were free. What you really wanted to ask was would you give up console gaming all together if you were given a high end pc. You would have gotten your answers that way.

I'd rather sell my old Pc for 300 and build a new rig for 300 net and enjoy all my games...... Oh wait, that is what I did.
