I'd rather spend the money to buy every other system and build a much cheaper PC.

Like the title says....for all you console players out there:

basically, if the money was given to you to make the ultimate gaming PC would you play or enjoy it more?

asdfg3000

Not really. My PC smacks around most of the builds I see on this site, but I still dont really game on it.

Nothing wrong with PC games, but most of my favorite games have always been on consoles.

And nobody would need $5000 for a gaming PC. Mine was in the ball park of 3,200 and is pretty much overkill as far as PC gaming requirements go.

LOL consolite comments, in the real world 80% of you would take the PC and never want to go back to console gaming again...

pelvist

Orrr.... in the real world some of us realize there is a such thing as preference. Hell, my favorite two games this gen came out on the weakest hardware, the Wii.

Gameplay is really the main factor for me. Dont care if a game has crazy specs.

Nope. It's ridiculous to spend even any money over $1,000 for a gaming PC. Might as well just buy a normal PC and buy a console.

Where on earth did you come up with $5000 for the "ultimate experience"? You can get a solid 3D PC gaming setup for $1000. A setup for running games on a normal 2D monitor on high, all parts included, runs in the $600 to $800 range. A basic gaming PC will run you $500. - People are out of their mind with the costs they quote for PC gaming, and the questions they ask are absurd. - Why don't I ask "would you drive a car if you had $20 million for the ultimate driving experience?". No, of course not, you'd drive a car NOW for way less money because you realize having a car is great. If you don't have a PC now, you're missing out, you are basically living without a car, never going out to eat, never hanging out with friends. That is the level of "missing out" you are on... good lord... $5000. - Let's be real.

If someone gave me $5000 and said "here you go you can only have it if you spend it on a PC", then I'd say yes as something is better than nothing, but if someone said "here's $5K, make yourself the ultimate game experience", then I'd spend that on $1K for nice TV, $1K for the most comfortable gaming sofa, $1K for a great sound system, for less than $1K I'd get a Xbox 360, PS3, and a Wii, and with that extra $1K+ I'd spend on some kickass games

I'd play on PC if I had $700. It might not be the ultimate experience but I'd have more fun with it than any console.

but then you have no pc so it wouldn't be very ultimate. It would be, like, 3/4 ultimate or something.

Or you could spend that $1000 on a PC, hook it up to the TV and sound system, and have a FAR better gaming experience. That's exactly what anyone who cares about A/V winds up doing anyway. The output on the Wii and 360 isn't good enough to put on a decent sized projection screen without pre-processing anyway. The PS3 gets brownie points for actually being a good Blu-Ray player, but you can still usually hit a better note with PC simply because you can invest in a hardware / software mix that meets your needs, and use more services comfortably. - TL;DR - If you're serious about "ultimate" experience, you need to hook your gaming consoles into a PC just to get the image quality for a good theater setup.

If I had a disposable 5 grand laying around, I may buy a new 700 dollar or so laptop, and apply the rest to my credit card.

The question should be re-worded. This thread is full of people who say they'll just spend the money on something else. How about, if someone gave you a gaming PC worth 5000 dollars, would you play it?

If you gave me $5000 I'd just buy a bunch of videogames and pay off my bills. Anything left over can go towards upgrading my PC and getting a few exclusives.

I'll say it another way:

If someoene told you that they were going to fund your gaming experience no matter the cost....but the only catch was that you could only game on one type...which would it be? Console or PC.

So in other words everything is paid for.

asdfg3000

Console. Splitscreen multiplayer is a big reason why my friends and I game mostly on consoles to begin with. It's nice to just hang out on the couch with your friends over and play some games. But thanks to your kind offer we can abandon my modest living room setup and move on to this:

Just tell me where to send the 6 million dollar bill.

I'd miss my PC games... but something tells me I'd get over it. :P

Hmmm no becasue even though 5000 dollars would give me a PC capable of playing all games at their best for the next 3-4 years its still only 3-4 years past 4 years games would be released that would tax my system even causing me to either lower resolution, settings and such...or the usual not be able to play them at all.

With the way PC gaming is now, you don't need 2k to get an awesome gaming rig, let alone 5k. Unless you are doing serious video editing/rendering/animation work...then, maybe yea. For gaming? No way I'm spending 5k. I hardly touch 1k whenever I wish to build a new rig...

That's a pretty bad selection you have there. Why does the list have DDR2? This board Asus Rampage 2 Extremecan only hold DDR3 ram. What is the DDR2 ram for?

And why is it 490 dollars? It's only 360 on the link I gave.

And the power supply? Enermax? You'd be better off with this Corsair. Especially with only 1 480 GTX. That build makes no sense.

Cooler Master case? Go with this one. Antec 1200.

I SPENT 5457$ ON SAMSUNG LED TV IN 2009 NOVEMBER, AND LOVE IT JUST HATE SEEING NEWER "SAMSUNG" MODELS CHEAPER, LIKE 1500$ CHEAPER ANY HOWS I WOULD BUY A CAR OR INVEST IN SHARES Or something since i enjoy games and big TV display, and pcs become inferior ever so often when you always come out even more expensive PC PARTS, IMPSSOBLE MARKET TO KEEP UP WITH. im referring to gpu and CPU, golf storm the nastiest processor in world it's like having 10 boxes running at low process, it would eat crysis 2 for dinner, but wouldn't pay 5000k for it, games are games let games be.

Even if you do, you cant be sure that you will dodge any drm issues or driver issues...Just saying. The experiance on pc is never ultimate thanks to ports and such letdowns. I wish they did their best to make great games and polished as hell and really use dx10 and dx11...ahh i can only wish.

The ultimate experience costs $5000. 3 * GTX 480 in 3 way SLI 2 * Intel Xeon X5680 6 core 12 thread CPUs EVGA Classified SR-2 Mobo 3 * 30 inch 2560x1600p monitor for 7680x1600 resolution SSD with 128gb, 12 gigs of ram (you can get up to 24-36gb but 12 is way mroe than enough even for the 'ultimate experience' xD)

You don't need 5 grand to have awesome computer in the end it's cheaper than console gaming I mean you can get parts off the Internet I built a beast for around 2200. And tha was even too much just research I mean you pay 300 for a console plus paying for online plus 60 a game years later adds out to be more than a PC

Well, if by "experience" you mean the entire setup, TV, audio system, PC, accessories, then 5000 bucks isn't all that bad. It's not that much more than what I spent for my setup which ran close to 4 grand.

Spending 5 grand on PC alone is excessive and completely unnecessary.

I think the question was meant not to be taken quite so literal. Most have not answered the question...I will..SURE, I would LOVE a new gaming PC. Mine is jacked up and about 6 years outdated. So sure, I love gaming, why not have the best of everything?

Sure but i wouldn't spend $5000 on a gaming PC.... i wouldn't say it's advisable to spend more than $1000 on a gaming PC at once.
