Yeah, I can’t take the opinion of someone who qualifies Super Metroid as “archaic” seriously.
Even by modern standards, Supper Metroid is a phenomenal exemplar of the genre. The game is brilliant, a masterclass in literally every aspect, and has not aged a fucking day. And I’m very much with Litchie on this: Dread’s art style simply isn’t conducive to the strengths the franchise is so renowned for.
That is, atmosphere and a sentiment of foreboding. Metroid has always favored an organic, and, at times, vibrant color palate. Dread just looks dull and uninspired. Artificial. Synthetic. Unappealing. It’s not the technical merit of the visuals, but the underlying engine that looks to be powering it. Even in pictures with rocks and natural materials it gives off the impression of being CGI.
