Without them, the industry wouldn't have moved forward, not it would be the multibillionaire and strong industry it is today.

Since most Gamers are casual, why the forum dwellers hate them so much?

I own multiple systems, hundreds of games and play 3-4 hours a day, I’m a casual and have been a casual since 1972 when Pong was launched, don’t give a damn if self entitled “hardcore gamerz” hate me.

I don't think there is one. Like one of those things that depends on who you ask. When you get right down to it, the term is just thrown around to feel entitled.

Because menchild that still live in their mom's attic need something to be proud about themselves, thus leading to the self proclamation of being a hardcore gamer.

No one casually becomes a forum dweller. They tend to be the hardcore of the hardcore, and most hate everything that isn't tailored to them.

I have no problem with casual gamers.

what annoys me is when a developer takes a relatively hardcore series with an existing fanbase and simplifies it for a more casual audience.

There is not hate for the casuals the hate is for the developers who tries to cash in the casuals by destroying their franchises and turn their backs to their fans instead of creating new ones for the casuals.

There's nothing wrong with people either playing games casually, or being more passionate about them than most. Video game elitism is the most embarrassing form of elitism tbh.

There should be hardcore and softcore gamers.

The softcore is largely the same only with less cocks.

Dont have the numbers to support it but i'm sure it's because their combined spending power outclasses the core gamers and they dictate the direction of gaming trends as a result....much to our detriment.....

DBZF is a simplified version of Guilty Gear and it's most likely outsold it, had more critical praise and acted as a entry point for people who otherwise has 0 interest in the fighting games.

Heck, SFV is simplified over SF4 and a far better game. Extremely simply to get into but still a high skill bar to complete with better players.

-

And then you have bad examples like Killer Instinct, where the entire thing devolves into a QTE.

Yea I'm sure it outselling had nothing to do with being Dragonball.

To play devils advocate.

Casuals/liberals expect everything to be integrated and oversimplified to the point where all gameplay/culture becomes homogenized. Except ironically end up destroying pre-existing cultures, censoring history and ultimately bending over for other casualisation/cultures even if they go against the good intentions of the previous culture.

F*ck it all though am I right? if a game doesn't hold your hand, lower it's score by 2. If it has 1 of each non-white male race/gender +2 for "progression"! If it focuses purely on deep mechanics -2 because "confusion" - Best press "Y" to dodge everytime.

Yarp.

Somehow I doubt its the conservatives who are:

1) Tearing down republican monuments

2) Not allowing the sale of Nazi War-Time Memorabelia in many countries (Because of "teh Neo Nazis"

3) Cencorising google searches with EU Take down notices when you search "[Insert latest white van attack or shooting] and the word [muslim?]" in the same sentence.

Disclaimer, I'm not right and my leftness has disapeared over the last few years of lies and biased media.

Gotta love the massive increase in Violence in the UK year in year out, the wonderful Mayor of London likes to pretend nothing is wrong? ofcourse he wouldn't.... I wonder why.

I've got no problem with them. There are plenty of smaller devs making more focused games.

We pretty much have it all right now..... if you have a PC that is.

Casuals are the force behind this industry..."Hardcore" gamer are gullible enough to believe that their opinion count, where the fact is, that they are a puny minority.

Fortunately there's enough space for everyone under the sun, and it so happens under the video game star too ^^

So Hate is no sense here.

The industry was moving forward without them. Im not hating on them though but the overcasualization of games the last decade or more led to subpar experiences in the long run.

Few examples Diablo 3 vs Path of Exile, Destiny vs Warframe, WoW vanilla vs WoW expansions, League of Legends vs Heroes of the Storm ... i got so many more examples like that. Overcasualization killed it even if on paper might be more popular.

Im not saying there werent casual games in the past, but what was happening the last decade or a bit more was simply ridiculous. It was that casual mentality that led to ROGUE titles and made them popular in the first place.

And probably you have no idea what a hard game of the past was like. I just mentioned examples of new games so people understand my point, new or old gamers.

@AzatiS: I do know, but they've never been hardcore games, even ghouls n ghosts were casual. The games weren't hard because they were hardcore, as they were all popular af, they were hard to make them seen longer.

You don't need this now, you can make games longer with content.

Who cares? There's something out there for everyone nowadays and AAA's in pretty much every genre. I'm probably a casual these days since I can only game 2-3 hours a day after work and taking care of my kid. I just like games and I don't need to be categorized as a "real gamer" to enjoy them

Nah. Ghoul and ghost was hard. For its time was hardcore compared to other 2D platformers etc. Its another thing to be casual friendly than being casual. Then this can be defined by different eras. For example when first World of Warcraft released wasnt considered super hardcore compared to other mmorpgs. In fact was more casual friendly than many other MMORPGs like Lineage 2 etc. But when you compare WoW vanilla with any expansion after the first one ... oh boy. Anyone can raid, anyone can have epics, anyone can do anything despite low DPS or failing tactics or failing roles ( bad tank for example) etc.

Theres always a difference in the core meaning of casual gaming depends on what genre you are reffering to and when because different eras provided different games for casuals.

League of Legends considered a casual game but when you are about to compare it with Heroes of the Storm .... Theres your overcasualization of the genre. No zoning, no items, no last hits, no gold etc . So you have a casual version of an already casual game. Beeeh. Diablo 3 was the same. No skill tree, no skill points, no deep itemization, 1 main stat to look for etc. BEEEH, booooring.

If you consider for example a casual game like League of Legends as casual as Heroes of The storm that all you need to do is ... put a point on skill with every level up, so be it

Not to get off topic, but you mean Confederate monuments, and you know why they're taking them down? Because the Confederacy represented a dark time in America the same way the Nazi Party (second point) were a dark time for much of Europe. Only in America, it's still openly celebrated by many, hence the public display the Confederate flag and the statues, with it's banishment prompting Charlottesville in response.

To explain it better, take it away, John Oliver:

So by your definition of a casual gamer. Professional Star Craft 2, league of legends etc players, who can make a seriously good living from their "sport" are casual, as they only play one game for extended periods of time. I don't think gamers who bring in serious amounts of money through sponsorship and filling stadiums with fans are hurting the games industry.

This is the League of Legends championships in South Korea

I think traditional gamers resent the casualization of video games in that it has spread developer's resources more thinly in some cases.

I've always bought Nintendo consoles, and I think what they've done with Fire Emblem on mobile is a good example of this. I dislike that they entered the mobile market with a proper, seriously kick ass strategy game and have tried to make it appeal to random Google Play shoppers...
