Looking forward to Hollow Knight on Switch and RDR, though the latter will depend on how much MTX bullshit they’ll try to get away with.

Given what Nintendo has done with Zelda and Mario I am just interested to see what the heck they are going to do next. They seem to be the only developer taking risks atm.

@aigis:

Your judging the game by the cover. The reality is the games got flipped upside down. Zelda is completely new. Mario is completely new. Both these titles are fresher than any game released for quite some time.

Zelda yes is new, but lets not pretend it wasnt building hype for like 5 years. There are legions of Zelda fans that will buy any Zelda game because it such a beloved franchise and was on a new console. This wasnt a risk at all, there is no chance that a new Zelda game after a 6 year interval on a new system wouldnt have a huge attach rate. I know this is based on the name, but Nintendo knows they have good will they can use to shake it up

Mario is not a new kind of mario game at all, its a variation of other sandbox mario games in line with 64 and Sunshine, its not too off the beaten track that people are questioning Nintendo on this one.

The same can be said about Final Fantasy, and that series hasn't been good since 2003.

Yakuza Kiwami 2. Before 0 came out, 2 was almost unanimously considered the best game in the series. So to get a remake that has a plethora of new content and that's being made using the new dragon engine is going to be so awesome.

Other than that, I'm looking forward to these games (assuming that they all come out next year): Yakuza 6, Valkyria Chronicles 4, Metroid Prime 4, Dragon Ball FighterZ, Freedom Planet 2, Shenmue 3, and Bloodstained.

they added more mechanics from a game that came out in '96, that doesnt make it conceptually different. The same could be said about flood drastically changing the sunshine, it has different things going on but the base is still exactly the same.

Skyward Sword was a critical flop among fans which really just proves my point even more, SS still sold well despite sucking 3.54 million units. People will buy it no matter what, commercially SS is on point and on top of all that you even had to buy a peripheral just to play the game. Really SS is a commercial success in Nintendo's eyes

Well it is in the platformer genre. It is drastically different. racing games are A to B. Burnout goes from a to b. Forza goes from a to b. They are similar in that regard as they are in the same genre. The difference is what happens between a to b. In this respect these games are drastically different

Red Dead Redemption 2. I've been waiting for a Rockstar game on current generation platforms. This smells like GOTY.

I dont understand what the genre has to do with anything. Its like saying Dark Souls and Bloodborne are drastically different games because bloodborne has a greater focus on being aggressive. Yes they are different mechanically, but they share the same trail-and-error difficulty base. Mario is no different, it has a new mechanic on a familiar base (mario 64 with cappy, just like sunshine and flood). They are different games, but they arent drastically different that it would be considered a risk

@aigis:

Fair point on Mario. In fact Nintendo was very smart about catering the game to both the casual and speed running crowd. It can be very simple, yet the depth is much much greater than the past few entries in the Mario series.

I still stand by my original point. They are daring titles. Imo Nintendo played it quite safe going back to Windwaker, twilight princess, galaxy, 3d land. They're design focus seems to have shifted back to being more open and experimental with what they set to accomplish.
