Best are :
Evil Within, Nemesis, and 4
Mid Level:
1, 2, and 5
Low Point:
Everything else
Ummm, The Evil Withins not a RE game :P
Made by original RE devs.
I'm allowing it

Then you should include Shadows of the Damned also ( plays like a Survival Horror Shooter), made by same dev Shinji Mikami :P

Thats true, wheras TEW kinda plays like RE 4 :)
@nyadc: RE4 is what previous titles should have been. A functioning game with controls and cameras that aren't fucking retarded.
Best is 1, 2, Code Veronica and the REmake.
4 wasn't a terrible game, but it was more of a 3rd person shooter/action game, not a proper survival horror with puzzles ect... like the older titles.
Didn't play anything after that as it seemed to even go further in that direction.

I hate when people have this stupid logic, it's so incredibly backwards. Did it ever cross your mind that the franchise garnered its success, notoriety and fanbase because of what it was?
People like you are a cancer on gaming culture, you want what you do not like to be changed to conform into your ideal game rather than actually finding a game which is ideal for you. The biggest mistake Capcom made with Resident Evil was trying to change it into something else and following trends, it backfired horribly. The franchise was doing fine, the only mistake they made was locking themselves into an exclusivity deal with Nintendo which spiraled the original franchise into decline because A. It was the least adopted platform at the time and B. It's Nintendo, when you think of Resident Evil Nintendo is not exactly the kind of community you should be targeting.
Resident Evil 4 was a success because the new people soaked it up more than anything, it did a lot of things right as a functional product and was a very well made video game, it just wasn't a great Resident Evil entry. Oh and before you fly off the handle with "well it sold a lot more than the previous games", well 5 and 6 sold more than 4 so what does that tell you? It became a mainstream dudebro action franchise, completely disregarded the niche fanbase that made it a successful reality in the first place and fell into trends to broaden the appeal, all of which completely killed its identity.
Resident Evil 4 was Pandora's Box for this franchise...
Shinji Mikami is the producer on Shadows of the damned. Not director. Duda 51 is responsible for that game. Clearly it was RE4 inspired though
@nyadc: The franchise garnered all of that because at the time that's all there was. By today's standard, the games are horrible. To any new player, the game will be horrible. The real cancer here is people like you who wear their nostalgia glasses and pretend their favorite game 20 years ago still holds up and is better than contemporarian games. Say what you will about Resident Evil 5, it was a fun co-op game. Sure as hell prefer to play that than the clunky shitfest that were the earlier RE titles.

It's not nostalgia glasses as much as those games are what Resident Evil is, if you don't like them and don't think they hold up and you'd rather play Gears of Evil, then by all means do. But don't sit there and act like 4 and beyond are any type of proper continuation of what came before, because they're sure as hell not.
In their own right they're fine games when you remove the thought that they are Resident Evil, as actions games they do what they do very well, but they're not good Resident Evil games. Take for example Devil May Cry, that started off as Resident Evil 4 and was turned into a new IP instead and rightly so, because it's a different game entirely. Resident Evil 4+ are no different, sure they're not an extreme like Devil May Cry would have been as Resident Evil, but they're pushing it and pushing it very hard. When you realize that you only have to change a few minute details in a game to make it a completely different IP from what it's supposed to be continuing, there's a pretty large issue there as far as franchise connection and continuity are concerned.
We're sitting here and you're trying to tell me that a watermelon is an orange, no matter what you do or how much you wish it, that watermelon will never be an orange, just as Resident Evil 4, 5 & 6 will never be good "Resident Evil" games. They're too different and too far disconnected, they have almost nothing to do with anything that came before them and that will never change no matter how much you attempt to push back.. Hell, they don't even have zombies except for the rare instances you encounter them in 6, and even those ones use weapons and shit, it's ridiculous...
@nyadc: Well we can certainly agree there. The direction they're taking their enemies is pretty stupid. Gun slinging zombos is a big no no.
Haven't played a lot of the spin-offs or REmake (I suck for that one), But I know my choices are going to need a flame shield....
Best: Resident Evil Revelations>5>Original
Worst: Resident Evil 2, or Revelations 2
Best: 4, REmake, 2, Outbreak 1 and 2 (those games are seriously underrated. So much fun to play online!)
Worst: 6, 5, ORC, Shitty corridor shooters.

I enjoyed REmaster last year just as much as I enjoyed REmake over a decade ago. The gameplay has aged remarkably well. It's a timeless classic.
