So I played COD multiplayer for the first time in years. It's all twitch gaming. Fastest reflexes wins. I don't see where the skill comes in. Am I wrong?

Skill: "the ability, coming from one's knowledge, practice, aptitude, etc., to do something well"

You can practice to improve your reflexes (Hence it being a skill).

Oops, thats not actually true. Reflex: "2. Physiology An involuntary response to a stimulus. 3. Psychology An unlearned or instinctive response to a stimulus." It's involuntary, it can't be pracitced.

It counts as reflex. Reflex is reflex and skill is skill. Hence, the 2 different words.

You might be retarded in which case this might not make sense to you. This attribute can be classified only as luck or skill. If something is not skill, then it must be by complete chance which we can aptly describe as luck. The opposite of skill is not reflex. Nor can you say something is skill, luck, or reflex. It just doesn't make logical sense.

So many ppl in todays society read so much into things. You kids create and combine things that aren't even there b/c it "seems" true. Skill is volutary. Reflex is not. You can't practice to improve reflex. Aiming is a skill, b/c you can learn to adjust. It's volutary.

UT 2K3&4. You have to learn and practice to get the combos to become second nature. Tribes series. Flying, using projectile weapons, aiming from long distances all at the same time requires practice. COD is so small that usually the person who dies is unaware what even hit him. The games I mentioned allow (most of the time) both ppl to be ready to fight......which would require another to beat them using skill.

Hey if he believes that everyone is born with a set of constant reflexes that never change all the more power to him. Pretty much limits him in any of his life endeavours as he can just blame it on biology.

Please tell that to tennis players. While you're at it tell them that reflex isn't a skill and they'll laugh at you. The majority of that game is reflex. If reflex can't be practiced and improved then pretty everyone should be able to be a pro tennis player.

Reflex is the skill needed in Call of Duty Black Ops.

If you're looking for actual Team Work, Planning, and Espionage to bring your enemy down then go on MAG or some other MMO.

In Call of Duty Black Ops the Maps are so small there really is no room for Tatics, only Run and Gun and Perhaps a Sabotage or two.

Those that "try" and train in reflex...or so you say, train in the experience. The more you are accustomed to something the more you can know what to do. Look at it this way, You know that thing the doctore hits your knee with that makes it kick. You CAN'T train that.

Did you read what I said? Look at the part where i said if you hold your breath long enough. There is no way for you to stop your body from trying to breathe if the levels of CO2 in your blood stream get too high.

How can you practice an involuntary reaction??????????? Please telll me. It either makes react or it does not. Maybe, I'm wrong in thinking that its actually a reaction and not just ppl being quicker to react...voluntarily.

The Phrase 'hold your breath' means "don't expect it, it's not likely,"

Also

"Try holding your breath. After a minute you will have used up most of the oxygen stored in your body and carbon dioxide will build up, triggering senses in your diaphragm to start breathing. You will experience an overwhelming urge to gulp some air, something which you will not be able to resist."

Breathing isn't a reflex. It's voluntary! The point is you can hold your breath. Regardless of the chemical reaction that makes you start up again, you can stop.

But why would you want to stop?

Breathing is Required for you to stay alive, and even if you do stop breathing you quickly realize that your body needs to Breath Oxygen and you will eventually have to start Breathing again.

If you want to look at it that way, when you're younger didn't you play around and pretend to hit someone to see if they flinch and they don't flinch. You do know that is a reflex right? So there you can stop your reflex's even if it is a completely stupid example.

Silverbond

In fighting games you have to learn the move sets of Certain Characters and maybe All Characters and then you would have to learn each Combos for each individual Character and of course there's how fast you move with your hands and thumbs...(reflexes)

[QUOTE="DudeNtheRoom"]Breathing isn't a reflex. It's voluntary! The point is you can hold your breath. Regardless of the chemical reaction that makes you start up again, you can stop.LegatoSkyheart

But why would you want to stop?

Breathing is Required for you to stay alive, and even if you do stop breathing you quickly realize that your body needs to Breath Oxygen and you will eventually have to start Breathing again.

Now you're just splitting hairs.

"[QUOTE="LegatoSkyheart"]

[QUOTE="DudeNtheRoom"] .......................................................the whole world has never heard of the pharse, "hold you breath"?DudeNtheRoom

So you've never heard of ppl holding their breath until they pass out? Seems you need to be less worried about proving me stupid.

You mean the Phrase "Don't hold your breath or you'll pass out"? :|

Eh, I was just saying. Breathing doesn't seem like something that is Voluntary, Sure you can hold your breath but It's sort of Required in living.

[QUOTE="DudeNtheRoom"][QUOTE="soulitane"] Did you read what I said? Look at the part where i said if you hold your breath long enough. There is no way for you to stop your body from trying to breathe if the levels of CO2 in your blood stream get too high.

If you want to look at it that way, when you're younger didn't you play around and pretend to hit someone to see if they flinch and they don't flinch. You do know that is a reflex right? So there you can stop your reflex's even if it is a completely stupid example.

Really, you mean it didn't seem as if you already knew he was bluffing. Thats called experience. Besides, if you didn't flinch, then you DIDN'T have a reflex. You're contradicting youself.

So if you train yourself to stop reacting to that why can't you train yourself to react faster the next time?
