Be aware the that tracking for this is very bad because of the outdated tech behind the PS Move and Camera.

If you want VR then PC is the only way to get a decent experience at the moment.

Sony needs to release a new camera and motion controllers to fix this issue.

http://www.gizmag.com/playstation-vr-review-hands-on-gdc/42321/

Tracking was inaccurate and inconsistent. It sorta swung in the general direction I was aiming (most of the time) but it couldn't track speed with any reliability (so you're left swinging the controller in slow motion) and has way too low an overall accuracy no matter how quickly you move the controllers.

This theme was consistent throughout my PlayStation VR demos. Cool games with some promise, but the horrible PS Move tracking ruined most of them.

This is actually what I was thinking, these devices were not created for this technology, they just happen to be there and they just happen to of sold horribly so Sony is using and offloading them instead of pairing proper new devices.

Is anyone actually surprised by this? A half hearted attempt at VR just like Sonys half hearted attempt at motion control

I'm gonna need more negative impressions to sway me. "Gizmag" isn't high on my list of trusted sources.

Now this video on the other hand........... Yikes (start at 15:24)

@RyviusARC:All games are able to be played with the DS4, the Move isn't really needed (as fun as it could be I suppose). The headset tracking, which is the most important bit, seems to work just when taking into account all the impressions so far.

In an alternate universe where Kinect 2.0 would work on PS4, I wonder if tracking performance would be better. It seems a little ironic to me now that a Kinect -like device is mandatory for the functioning of VR. I guess some of the same people who wouldn't stop bashing Kinect and how useless it was, will now have to get a similar device for VR if they want to experience that.

Lets just be honest there have been a ton of oops moments with vr so far for all of them. Chances thats going to be the experience. They are Oculus video were shit fail as well as vive. I have been watching so many videos, I don't know why im interested in this thing. I told myself i wasn't going to bother with vr lol. I'm this close to clicking step in to rift and pre order.

@RyviusARC: I can attest to this. In the demos I tried you do have to force yourself to move more slowly to avoid it loosing track or lagging behind and every time it does that your immersion is broken and it reminds you that you are looking at mobile phone screen. As it is now, PSVR will be best for cockpit games like racing and flight sims.

There's reports that they will introduce new updated hardware, a PS4.5 to cater to PSVR. It would be a damn shame if they don't also introduce updated Move controllers and updated PlayStation Kinect as well. I had a feeling the almost decade old Move controller would hinder the experience since it's like a decade old controller. Their PlayStation Kinect is also lacking as well. This article confirms the concern. I think if they're really going to release new console hardware, they will also release new peripherals just to cater this PSVR crap and this is the only way to really have a full PSVR experience, so that's like a thousand dollars and more at other regions.

Consoles gamers shouldn't expecting much for a VR that's limited on a console who aren't into PC gaming.

Rest assure that VR isn't some gimmick, you gotta try it out sometimes. [Console or PC VR, ether way, it's the next big thing]

What a ridiculous thread from none other than the biggest lemming on the board. This thread should be closed for fear-mongering.

SONY and Cerny have carefully crafted the PSVR and PS Move & Camera to perfection. There is no comparison.

I can assure you that the PS Camera matches the picture & movie quality of the highest-end DSLR cameras.

You get what you pay for. Cheapest VR option (not including Gear VR) on a weak platform... what are people expecting? I just hope it doesn't turn off too many people from VR and people actually get to have a proper VR experience on PC.

That's odd. Obviously I don't have a PSVR yet but I've had the Move for years. While the library of Move exclusive/compatible games is pretty weak, the Move itself I always thought was the best version of motion controls between the consoles of that generation. The precision on the accelerometers and spatial tracking was really tight in some of the games made exclusively for the Move like Sports Champions. I've always been a bit bummed they never made more games for it.

What is Gizmag? Every other major gaming outlet has had positive experiences with PSVR.

The site probably experienced a bad hardware set-up. I've used a PlayStation Move myself, and it works just fine. The hardware transitioning to VR shouldn't hinder it in anyway, so this makes absolutely no sense. Many sites like Giantbomb have had positive impressions with PSVR. It's obviously not as good as an Occulus or Vive, but it works well as an entry VR headset.

So Sony Rashes to get into the VR market with a half as*** attempt every Sony fanboy praise them for their $460 amazing VR price ( headset+camera) but watch them launching an updated camera and better motion controls in a year for an extra $200 or dropping VR support all completely and call it a day

@GoldenElementXL:Guy did well on defence, which means it's working.

As for attacks...yeah he didn't pull his hands back after a deflect.

Maybe they need WII players to test these controls? I'm sure they know how to swing a sword.

@Ant_17: Brad Shoemaker had a reputation of being "bad at video games." But this video shows that the Move functionality is stuck in gen 7. Sony would have been better off coming up with something updated while not compromising their VR.

@GoldenElementXL:Well, it's not out yet, so hopefully Sony is watching these videos and taking notes for the problems.

I'm not onboard yet for VR, but still, the cheaper version of it can't match the pricy stuff.

I just hope they don't a Steel Battalion flop on it, otherwise i'm bailling to the WIIU.

I've never played the game but it needs to be said that 1:1 doesnt work for some game types. With melee combat you normally rely on frame times ie. Kratos' strong attack takes longer to execute than his weak attack. 1:1 throws all of this out the window.

It also isnt realistic in some cases. You can make quick flicks with your controller, the motion equivalent of button mashing. This shouldnt translate to onscreen where your character is holding a heavy longsword.

Some star wars games have been announced. The whole deflecting lasers part will work well 1:1, but I'll be surprised if they use complete 1:1 for lightsabre duels. It'll probably be like skyward sword where its 1:1 to a point, most likely the speed of sword swings wont be.

Well he says that he compared games like Job Simulator and it had the same issues.

Another example: Job Simulator. This game has been a favorite of ours on both the Rift and Vive, as you use their respective motion controllers to manipulate objects in virtual workspaces. The PSVR version, though, was the first time when the tech got in the way of the game. I'd reach out to grab a stapler on the desk in front of me and suddenly the virtual hand would fly up in the air, two feet above my head.

Again, clearly not the developer's fault, as the game plays perfectly on the Rift and Vive. It just can't do much with Sony's shit tracking.

I'm going to take a wait and see approach. I gotta say though reading that article the move is really not like the wiimote which had to have motionplus addon to track depth. Essentially move had its upgrade which was the ps4 camera Sony clearly tossed the ps3 eye away. In a sense they wont change it because its not really old reused techs, perhaps the tracking technique is old. Its essentially not as strong as kinect sensor for example but that's the reason why it only target the lights shape.

If you ask Sony they will probably tell you that they have updated the move camera for vr. There were always working with vr in mind when the ps4 lunched. Stay tuned games are in development one of experiences happen to other vr solutions as well. Most of the experience have been good. So in a way I should say thanks for at least giving me a pause from making stupid quick decision on psvr.

Is anyone actually surprised by this? A half hearted attempt at VR just like Sonys half hearted attempt at motion control

Are you talking about the Move or the Eyetoy? Cause eyetoy wasnt half hearted. Sony was actually a pioneer on motion control gaming
