The reason MS exclusives don't sell well

There's a reason MS exclusives went from selling well during the 360 days to barely being able to do 5 million in gen 8. Fortnite, COD, and Battlefield. Looking at MS show, they seem to focus most of their budget to shooters and there's no getting around these three franchises. It's the reason Sony focuses on high budget single player games, they fill a void most multiplats can't. MS is stuck between a rock and a hard place which is why they have to give games away to compete. As long as these franchises are on top, forget about Redfall or Halo moving the needle.

I love how the OP lists having a load of FPS is a concern, while ignoring the SP games that were shown. Seems as if Sony have a bigger variety problem with the plethora of third person action adventures (Last of us, God of War, Uncharted, Bloodborne, Demon Souls, Spider-Man, Days Gone, HZD etc) none of which have any MP gameplay to speak of.

E3 shook Cows to their bovine bones, and the number of insecurity threads they are coming out with speaks volumes.

Thank God we have Sagemode around to enlighten us all...

Racers, FPS games, Platformers, Indies, RPGs, 3rd person Action adventures, MP games, SP games, MMMO games, Horror games. All MS first party games, all announced at E3 or launch window games.

Well, ol’ wonderwinner has an issue with MS game variety, and that includes any games in the launch window. Can’t think of a horror game shown yesterday, so The Medium fits the bill.😏

Variety is not an issue with Xbox at the moment. Games are also not an issue with Xbox. Exclusives? Yep! Do I want them to make games exclusive to the Xbox? Nope! Once they maintain the bare minimum of Xbox and PC, they will be in a great place for gamers in general.

Note, Xbox games are multiplatform. As far as first party, there is variety

Microsoft has more first party variety than Sony. Sony only focuses on one genre of videogame........3rd Person Action Sad-Ventures with stealth elements.

Theres only so many times you can crouch-walk through "stealth grass", do distraction rock throwing, hoist NPCs up ladders, etc...... Cows only want to play these faux Metal Gear/Far Cry/Ubisoft games.

Sony will never make a game like Prey or Dishonored. Or Avowed.

Come back when MS keeps the energy for 5 years or more, minus all the CGI. All those 3rd person games you listed are different. Demon Souls and Spiderman are completely different from GOW and TLOU. They don't have to have multiplayer, that's the point of this thread. Business wise, their bases are covered with multiplats. The game types they focus on fills a void multiplats can't. Why would Sony focus on multiplayer when Fortnite, COD, and Battlefield rule the market?

You all are missing the most shocking thing from that 2020 software sales list. Animal Crossing on a single platform outsold Madden on 5... WITHOUT Animal Crossings digital sales being included. It outsold Assassins Creed on all its platforms. That’s just nuts.

And COD was number 1 and number 2. COD is dead, and vote with your wallets and all that.

8 of the top 20 games appeared on the Switch. 11 on Xbox. Half the Switch games were exclusive while none of the Xbox exclusives made the list.

I think this says more about 1st party appeal of each platform more than anything. The Switch has a varied library. They’re obviously picking the right 3rd party games to support. And Xbox either doesn’t sell any exclusives, OR... Game Pass is eating into their sales. Some folks won’t even entertain that idea. Some indie dev told them otherwise...

So, clearly you are mistaken.

And some of them Switch games is from years back while mostly new on other platforms. I also think switch has big appeal with its 1st party but also shows in end year there is a big lack of 3rd party content for it and when there is like Fifa or NBA, its just PS3 legacy assets updated and is skewed due to how high it sells on other platforms but almost never appear on individual switch breakdowns.

While sales of 1st party content is high on switch. It also shows there is no substitute products to compete with switch 1st party offerings. This give users no choice but to pick nintendo products as substutites dont/barely exist on the platform thus increasing sales of evergreen titles.

I do agree on xbox though, abysmal. Their biggest 1st party console title last few years was Gears 5, sea of thieves and crackdown 3 complemented by smaller titles like Ori and grounded.

Those are impressive sales figures of a consoles flagship titles? Imagine having all your heavy hitters get outsold by Luigi's Mansion 3...
