SONY Exec On Specs Difference Between The Neo and scorpio Is All Rumor

The Xbox One Scorpio is slated to be a complete and total beast, and it will end up completely blowing the PS4 NEO, at least the PS4 NEO as it is rumored to be, out of the water as far as specs go. It’s actually an amusing reversal of tables within this generation- where Sony had the cheaper, more developer friendly console and they flaunted it for all it was worth, only for the trend to be inverted all of a sudden.

However, Sony Europe’s Jim Ryan says that any conversation on this perceived specs differential is meaningless until Sony actually formally announce the PS4 NEO and its capabilities- as of right now, they have confirmed that it exists, but they haven’t exactly gone into more details about the revision.

Ryan says that the conversation should wait until Sony have actually announced the PS4 NEO specs- and that’s a reasonable stance to take, except for the small technicality involving Sony’s own Shawn Layden implicitly confirming that the Xbox One Scorpio will in fact be stronger than the NEO.

Well, then- of course, specs ultimately don’t account for much. The NES, PlayStation, Wii, and PS2 were all weaker consoles that beat their more powerful competition- the PS4 already has a tremendous advantage when it comes to games and game support, so just being trounced by the Scorpio won’t change anything much for Sony.

With the Xbox having better games, it could be lights out for the Neo Geo before it even releases. Sony may want to reconsider releasing until after Scorpio to avoid the the sting.

Since MS is starting the next gen (not including Nintendo), Sony can't afford to start the next gen a year behind the Xbox or they will end up tying MS like they did last gen.

The newest rumor from a very reliable insider is that Sony has 2 different Neo's ready but will scrap the weaker one and release one with 5.5 TF for $499 this year. That would only be slightly weaker than Scorpio and release an entire year earlier.

In no way is scorpio a full gen leap, it's a half step. And not even a quarter step in terms of memory amount.

To me a generational leap is still like xbox < 360, or Ps1 < Ps2. Ps3 < Ps4 isn't even a full leap.

Yes, it's a midgen upgrade of a different degree, just like I said. Every single game on it will work on a regular Xbox one, its a mid-gen upgrade, it's not next gen, sorry. Even if the NEO came out and was twice as powerful as the scorpio, if it had to be forward compatible with base PS4 it would still be a midgen upgrade. Unless they come out with totally independent consoles that aren't shackled to also work on their base parts its not a next gen console.

Because last gen they paid $600 for the mythical powah of teh cell that didn't live up to its name and ever since that they are mad about having some power advantage.

Scorpio is substantially more powerful than NEO so it's pretty close to a next gen machine when you consider the X1 is 1.3TF and PS4 is 1.8TF, and the Scorpio is 6+TF.

Power is irrelevant, it's not a next gen machine if every game has to also be playable on the Xbox One. It could be 13 teraflops and if the disc you put in it has to also play the same game when you put it in an Xbox One, it's not nextgen, I'm not sure how this term has been confused with power lol. If microsoft changes and announces that scorpio games will not work on the base xbox one, it is then their next generation console.

Think of it like a family tree and it will make more sense. If your parents have another kid and they're stronger and smarter than you, they're not in the next generation after you, they're still your sibling. Your kid and their kid would be the next generation.

True, if you put it that way....there is no such thing as a next gen PC either. It is a generational leap in power, but maybe not in console design. But it looks like EA, Ubisoft and TakeTwo are pumped about the new direction.

Ok can you see the Fury X performance here.? It is 31FPS average in 4k the Fury X is a 8.6TF GPU.

Now look at the R290 it does 24FPS just 7 FPS less than a FuryX you know how much TF a R290 is.? 4.9TF.

So the gap between the R290 and the Fury X is 7 FPS on tomb raider at 4K,even that bothy have a 3.7TF disparity,so imagine how much smaller the gap will be between neo and scorpio when all it separate them is 1.8TF half of what gap between the Fury X and R290.

Any one who thinks Scorpio is next gen and Neo isn't is day dreaming.

That being said, Sony does not need two versions. They do not have to have the most powerful console to stay in the lead.

Sony has the blockbuster exclusives that will sell their consoles.

Microsoft on the other hand is going to have to become the multiplat console of choice if they are going to gain ground on Sony.

Sony were going for attractive pricing. Current ps4 price. This is outclassed not just in gpu that people seem to only focus on but everything this time. Cpu, memory and everything. It's really not in the same class. They better reflect that in pricing and early realease. Try to stay away from Scorpio comparison as much as possible lol. Sony is caught skipping slim and playing around with pricing and modest upgrade that comes with that.

From the leaks Scorpio has 4gb more rame that is 30%~ faster than the Neo, faster cpu(unknow at the moment how fast) and almost 2TF more gpu power. The power difference is bigger than you think and if the scorpio can run a game at 4K30fps the neo won't have a chance to do that without too much to sacrifice in GFX or fps.

Radeon HD 290X has 5.5 TFLOPS with 263 GB/s random texture memory bandwidth

Fury X has 8.6 TFLOPS with 333 GB/s random texture memory bandwidth. Fury X has another gimp factor for 4K i.e. 4GB of video memory.

CrossFire R9-290 (4.848 TFLOPS) has double random texture memory bandwidth over single R9-290.

333 GB/s / 263 GB/s = 1.266 difference.

If you a apply R9-290X's 26 fps with 1.266 is yields about 32.9 fps. The real Fury X has 32 fps. It also shows Fury X's memory compression and HBM controller is crap i.e. Polaris 10 has improved memory controller and memory compression e.g. 980 Ti has better memory compression over Fury X.

Texture memory bandwidth is different from ROPS memory bandwidth.

BS, most people purchased a PS4 because they thought it was way more powerful than the Xbox one. If the PS4 was dominating in games why do most people with both consoles purchase more Xbox games?

Gonna be interesting to see what happens. If MS pushes this 4k nonsense I think games on the weaker Neo will still be better overall. However I don't think MS will. To me the PS library is just so much more appealing that I'd pick the Neo anyway. Also if it's restricted to improvements for games designed for Ps4 and they don't try to go higher than 1440p (upscaled to 4k), then Neo seems plenty powerful enough I think.

I'm sure they have a couple months before they go into mass production...right? Assuming that it's coming out this year
