So far so good DS controller and astro playroom impressions.

People shilling asymmetrical analogs are delusional for the simple reason that the data speak for themselves: some people prefer how symmetrical feels, therefore it's a subjective matter and you can't "correct" someone to like how asymmetrical analog position feels more. You seriously think after decades of gaming and owning basically every configuration under the sun that I have to be a Sony shill to prefer symmetrical? The analog placement (and shit dpad) are my only real complaints with my X1 controller. Nobody is going to change the way these things actually feel in my hands by banging on a keyboard about the 360

No one is "shilling" for asymmetrical analog sticks at least no more "shilling" than those preferring symmetrical sticks and are no more delusional. People are offering their preference and giving their reasons why. It is a forum for such discussions is it not?

@kingtito: i'm not trying to stifle discussion - some people aren't expressing their preference, as you claim. But instead argue that it's "objectively wrong" and that the only way you could prefer symmetrical is by active fanboyism/delusion. Yeah - I take issue with that. Not as a moderator, but as a sane person - if someone prefers the feel of symmetrical then one simply is in no position to tell them they are "feeling it wrong"

Understood and I apologize if my post came off as such. I was just trying to give my thoughts and opinions and not trying to speak for everyone or say they're wrong for thinking or feeling different. I think SWs has a way of making me brute force my opinions on others without realizing.

@Pedro: Holy crap lol, my brother bought one of those about 2 years ago for his NES, possibly the worst controller imaginable for older games. I never realized it was an actual analog stick, thought it was just some weird mutated digital pad. Thanks for the info. :)

@vfighter:

It may look like an analog, but nah it's just a really bad dpad. Can't remember if it was limited 4 way or 8 way, but was definitely digital. Which makes sense, not like any NES games were designed to take advantage of analog input.

@tormentos:

I'm not sure if Atari was first to have an analog stick on a gaming controller. Want to say it was some obscure console, can't remember tho.

But yeah, they did have it before Nintendo with their 5200. Apparently it was awful, but still lol. An analog that doesn't self center, yikes. From what I'm reading, very few games took advantage of it.

Never tried one though, only owned a 2600 and that stick was digital.

@ConanTheStoner: No matter what it was it was crap lol. But I can see it being digital over analog as it wasn't a stick just a circle that slide around.

Got mine in. Spoilers it feels like a controller.

Does feel like the most solid PS controller yet. Nice and weighty. Good contours, fits more naturally in my hands than previous DS controllers. It's basically like the Xbone controller, but with less of an upward taper. Really nice form factor for sure. Not about to blow anyone away, but still, a decent improvement on a homogeneous design.

@Pedro:

lol right, some dork would take offense to that.

But yeah, pretty similar feel. Though I do think I prefer how the Dualsense/DS5/whatever maintains its width across the top, giving it a more boxy shape. Results in less bending of my thumbs for the analogs and a more natural finger rest on the triggers. Just me tho, obviously depends on the individuals hands.

I like it, but I don't expect it to be my go-to controller. Now if Sony could make an "Elite" version of this thing, I'd be all in.

The irony being that I've worked in this industry for over a decade. Guess Tormo has to take my word for it if that's his logic. 😃

I honestly don't understand what he took offense to, my impressions were nothing but praise lol.

Well this is easy back up your claim that Nintendo did analogue first.😊

Ill wait while you spin and run from me as usual.

Nintendo wasn't the first company with an analogue on its controller.

Tormo, you've gone senile my old friend. I was praising the controller you idiot. 🤣

Also:

Favorite system of gen 5 - PS1

Favorite system of gen 6 - PS2

Favorite system of gen 7 - PS3

Gen 8, started with the PS4. Didn't buy a Xbone until early this year, and that was only for BC.

This gen I'll likely get a PS5 and will never get a XSX.

A PS hater indeed.

I just like video games man. I'm not on your plastic loving/hating level, sorry.

Just for you my friend, I'll break down my paragraph statement by statement.

---

"Does feel like the most solid PS controller yet." - Praise.

"Nice and weighty." - Praise.

"Good contours, fits more naturally in my hands than previous DS controllers." - Praise.

"It's basically like the Xbone controller, but with less of an upward taper." - An observation. Not universally positive or negative, though it is a positive for me if you read my following response to Pedro.

"Really nice form factor for sure." - Praise.

"Not about to blow anyone away, but still, a decent improvement on a homogeneous design." - Praise. Unless you think we're supposed to be blown away by another iteration on a decades old standard controller design.

---

Hope that helps.

How dare two pieces of plastic meant to do the same thing share a similar shape!

Yeah, weird.

He better get used to it, these controllers only become more similar with each iteration, same goes for Nintendos pro line.

The controller looks nice but I think I will still prefer the DS4. Most of the new features will probably be shoehorned into games the first couple years of PS5 and then quickly forgotten about. Same thing happened with the DS4 touchpad gimmick.
