Rise of the Tomb Raider - Games like this need to die off

Game like Tomb Raider basically all console have today, especially PS4

I'm in agreement with TC, but he/she is just listing only one problem with Rise of the Tomb Raider. Yeah, the scripted sequences are all terrible. They have no tension at all, they are literally the bare bones bullshit of holding up on the stick. At least Uncharted throws challenge into its set pieces. ROTR just feels like you're watching a terrible movie at times.

Yes, ROTR would be a terrible movie. Whenever the game gets its cinema and storytelling on, it's D-tier direct to DVD garbage. It's 2016, why the **** are we still getting saddled with this horrible and cringe inducing writing? The AAA game industry needs to hire some competent writers that can actually make me feel something. I don't care about Lara's journey or find the villains interesting at all. When a game spends so much time on cutscenes and building a world I expect it to be good, not a complete waste of time.

Speaking of time wasting, all the side content in the game feels completely pointless. All of it just feeds back into the combat. However, the game never challenges you at all with its combat mechanics. Crafting and buying all those upgrades just feels dumb. The starting equipment and skills are good enough to carry you to the end of the game. Hell, I got halfway through the game and had enough survival supplies to craft 20 bandages. I was never in danger of actually dying, so even when it's an actual game, it has no tension. The various upgrades only serve to make an already easy game easier. Not to mention, finding all those collectibles is super boring. The game basically tells you where everything is, it's just a simple matter of running up to it and hitting X. Oh yeah, they also make the somewhat decent tomb raiding a side activity and pour all the money into their shitty main game that's just an Uncharted clone. **** this game.

ROTR is a bad video game. Totally blows my mind how some people can completely hate a game like MGSV and then turn around and say they love ROTR. To me, that's like saying they hate Fury Road, and then enjoying Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. One is a nice juicy steak, while the other is just junk food. That's what ROTR is, it's AAA game junk food. it's well-made for what it is, but it's still safe boring crap.

I call bullshit. Tomb Raider 2013 in my opinion was very good. I played it on ps3 and on my 5k iMac. I can only imagine how nice it looks. I guess I will see when most likely the definitive version comes out in November.

havenot played rise of TR but based on 2013 reboot i can agree with OP. one of the worst game of all time. Its so bad that it make Uncharted a masterpiece. and lara croft the worst protagonist ever "OMG THIS IS SOOOO HAAAR I CANT DO DIS"!!! or "this is beautiful" all she do is whine.

I do respect your opinion like i respect everyone else but new tomb raider is not very good.

Although I somewhat enjoyed the newer Tomb Raider games, the feeling of accomplishment you get from the older games is much greater. I agree that they go too far for that cinematic feel and it takes more away from video games than it gives to them IMO.

10 minutes in you're free to explore a sandbox area with lots of side content, hunting and metrodvania style upgrades and puzzles to solve

Ugh I hate when people elevate themselves as some awesome top of the line gamer and put down other gamers with the word casual. You're not exactly a casual gamer if you're gaming on PC or consoles. I can see that word used perhaps for tablets and smartphones but not consoles.

And there is nothing wrong with having different types of games. Not everyone has time to spend on games with family and jobs which is much different than the kid with nothing to do all night but game in their parents house.

Also not everyone is interested in the same games. Diversity is good. Instead of whining about x game.....don't buy it. Don't play it. Pick up some senseless shooter and spend your time on that.

I don't think games like Tomb Raider need to die, but I personally didn't like Tomb Raider Reboot (don't know how much it's like ROTTR).

Xbox fans and PC gamers hyped it up really high and said it was better than Uncharted and I like 3rd person action games so I gave it a shot, however, It wasn't better than Uncharted. In fact, It was quite numbing and lacking in believable atmosphere or compelling story.

The fact that I don't think that even Uncharted had a strong story but Tomb Raiders was even worse killed my motivation to continue playing because people hyped it up to be so much better.

Uncharted also had really fun action sequences and story events and Tomb Raiders events felt more like a chore that I needed to complete just to get to the next section..I gave up after about 2 2hr sessions. The second time I played I just said **** this and uninstalled it from my PS4, said I'll go back to playing tetris or Bloodborne.

So, while I don't think games like Tomb Raider need to die, I personally believe other 3rd person action games do it better than what TR has done, at least going by the reboot.

This man is right. Tomb raider is terrible and barely even qualify as game. QTE after QTE and overall terrible gameplay. this game make uncharted feel like intelligent game like system shock 2.

Awesome game, big maps and lots to explore besides the Tombs. Qte events don't really bother me, some tense moments that could mean life or death when they do crop up. Game is pretty sweet can't wait to go back and do survival mode.

I've been cranking away every weekend since December and only 25% completed. This game offers a lot.

Lems did there part by not buying it.

I put my trust in you guys when I tried the original reboot, sorry but fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.

Not going to happen unless givin free on PS plus which wouldn't be too hard to believe will happen sooner than later.

Like, I said you guys are the same group who I listened to when I bought the reboot and it was a massive disappointment. I'd like to clarify something tho, Uncharted 2 also didn't jump out to me when I watched footage of it when all sony fanboys and reviews were saying how amazing it was supposed to be.

I also bought UC2 off blind faith of fans and media (never bought the original) but it ended up being a great game, not the best thing ever as Demon's Souls was released the same year and you know how I feel about that, but it was "great" game none the less. That said, I didn't buy UC3 because I felt like it wouldn't be better than UC2 regardless of it's high score and RPGs and fighters come before 3rd person action games unless they are "must play" games I recognize.

ROTTR may be a greater game but I can't put my faith in it after the Reboot after listening to 3rd party claims. Story and gameplay are the most important things to motivate me as a player, the reboot had neither that inspired me. I'll give UC4 a chance only because it's a full current generation game and I only bought one game from the previous generation event tho I considered it "great".

I'm actually a very critical gamer.
