Sony reports the numbers openly and says it was a success and on top of that bought the developer. I’m not sure what else people need to hear but the game isn’t a bomb in Sony’s eyes. Also it has only been a few months. I would wager the game will ultimately hit 1 million+.

Housemarque's games has a very limited audience. This game can be tough as nails, dark and depressive arcade shooter with an adult narrative.

Did we factor in marketing costs, logistics, and retail percentage cuts? Among other costs?

It's funny seeing people make up some arbitrary sales target for the game when they know jack about the cost of development, marketing, sales projections etc.

to be honest, I was interested in this game too and was thinking about getting it when the price dropped. But when people started comparing it to demon souls, I lost all interest.

Yeah.... I kind of agree when Risk of Rain 2 is $20 and also has multiplayer coop.

And it's a heck-of-a-lotta fun.

You seem to be very concerned over the lack of sales from Returnal. Just enjoy the game, don't worry if others don't like it, or that it flopped. It has no bearing on your experience with it.

I am sure Housemarque and Sony will learn from their blunders and move on to bigger and better IPs.

Exactly what I was thinking. Finally a new IP that reviewed really well, but everyone is shitting on it.

If you have a PS5 and consider yourself a gamer please pick this game up, so we can get more good games instead of mobile or games as a service crap.

560K+ sales for a new IP that is overpriced and only 10M PS5s out there. That is not bad. The game will do well over time. Once the price of the game drops to a reasonable level, many more people will pick it up.... myself included. Also, new PS5 owners will want to pick it up.

Supporting something you don't really care all that much about makes no sense. Trying to push a genre into the mainstream that is practically cemented in indie development and putting a $70 price tag along side PS5 shortages was a recipe for disaster. I might eventually pick the game up for $30 or less, but I'd rather it be a one and done and the studio moves on to something else since it's clear they have talent and artistic vision.

There was nothing wrong with Returnal. It’s a good game…maybe infuriatingly hard for most, but a good game nonetheless.

What was wrong was Sony trying to market this as a $70 AAA game, which also surprised the devs.

thats not too bad for a launch window game though. the game may keep selling as more people buy ps5 and maybe reach over a million sold. having said that, sony way overplayed its sales by calling it a smash hit or whatever they said.

The price point for games will be a killer for Sony, they will have to expand PS Plus to reduce the price of their games for members

Sounds low, but who knows how many units at that price point would spell success. Like recently, ArcSys was celebrating when Strive hit 300k and then 500k milestones lol. Not every game needs to be a multimillion seller.

But yeah, would imagine Sony expected or at least hoped for more.

Anyways, would eventually scoop this if it gets a PC version.
