"Perrin Kaplan, VP of Marketing at NOA, said the DS has sold 3 million in North America this year so far, though holiday sales numbers are not yet available." - Perrin Kaplan
So DS has clearly sold more in TOTAL than the number you gave above, whereas that IS the PSP total number above, since it actually came out in 2005, whereas the DS came out in 2004...
The DS has the 2004 numbers and the holiday sales numbers to add to that 3 million...
So,
PSP > DS in 2005 sales in USA.
DS (most likely) > PSP in total sales in USA.
Here you go...
"US sales of the Nintendo DS game console have exceeded 4 million since its launch in November 2004, Nintendo has announced." - http://www.999today.com/games/news/story/2520.html
or
"combined with the 4 million DS units sold in the US....Compare these astounding figures with the worldwide sales of the PSP, which is in the region of 7 million units, and you can see that the DS has nearly sold at a rate of 2 to 1 against Sony’s machine" - http://news.spong.com/detail/news.asp?prid=9483&cb=0.7055475
