PS5 has sold 13.4 million units!

According to Sony's latest report, Q2 (from July to September 2021), saw 3.3m PS5 consoles sold. That's a million more than the previous quarter.

In terms of sales, the entire gaming division generated $5.68bn in revenue in Q2, the third best quarter since the launch of the PlayStation 5.

The figures show Sony's gaming division is its most profitable, compared with music or film.

By comparison to PS5, 200,000 PS4 consoles were sold in Q2 compared with 1.5m in that same quarter the previous year, down from 500,000 in Q1.

Q2 2021 saw the release of high profile games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut, and Death Stranding Director's Cut, which have likely contributed to the strong sales.

PlayStation 5 consoles have been in high demand and short supply since launch, but these latest sales figures suggest that more consoles are becoming available.

Still, component shortages for all consoles are likely to continue into 2023 according to Intel, which will impact PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch consoles alike, as well as PC.

Great news and a really great console.

Allows me to play PS5 games at 60fps and allows me to play PS4 games aswell at 60fps.

I still have my PS4 for the games that (unfortunately) don't have a next gen patch yet.

Do you have any ideas how hard the PS5 would be demolishing the Switch if you could buy one? It would literally burry it so bad, that Nintendo would be in a permanent panic mode and Casey would be damage controlling on daily basis.

Its a 5y old system that can't even handle anything but one side scroller. Nobody cares, dude. The PS5 is literally outselling it with zero stock in stores. Let that sink in.

Its so nice to get detailed numbers of such things. The other companies statements from this week were so vague in comparison…

FY 2020 was 28.8 million and FY 2021 is going to be well over 25.

September is a difficult to track from because it's the middle of the fiscal year so I'd have to to a lot of sourcing. That would give Switch a Christmas. Easily over 25 million.

The best news is that two of my buds were finally able to find PS5 systems outside of the scalper pits.

It actually blows my mind, given how scarce they appear to be. I guess if you ship a ton but they are instantly snapped up the outside observer wouldn't know the difference from them barely shipping any at all

13 million were VERY lucky to find one. The other 41mil not so much. God, the PS5 would be obliterating the Switch so badly, that even if you combined the sales of the waggle machine known as the Wiiiiiii, the ps5 would still be destroying these two if it was possible to find a ps5. Sony has created something that Nintendo cannot compete with, and this, this is something you don't want to hear, but it needs to be said, and you must remember it.

PS4's best year on the market was 20 million in nearly a decade.

Get back to me when PS5 can even do those numbers much less Switch's record breaking 28.8 million, pleb (hard to do when you have zero presence in Japan).

I says something if scalpers know that people will pay an astronomical price just to acquire a ps5 ( I’m not condoning it though) a year after it launched. The switch were very easy to find well before it’s year anniversary.

You make it sound like nothing goes into making a console appealing enough to achieve an accolade in sales. If Sony haven’t been for gamers then what’s the excuse for MS and it’s lower sales numbers?

In the meantime, third party publishers can't even sell games on Xbox because of the low adoption rate and the Game Pass bums.
