This is funny because it's not surprising considering they launched 4 months later and had plenty of supply. The Wii and 360 would have had the same kind of launch if they had an overabundence of systems shipped to the stores. What would have been amazing would be if they sold out on launch day. The real test is going come withen the next few months after all the early adopters have bought the PS3 and the casuals have thier turn to buy a next gen. system.

True, but giving away $1000+ TV's doesn't make it look like much of a success either.

Why not? It was given to the (UK) selected for waiting the extra 4 months.

Yeh they only gave out 100 free HDTV's ...

And yep in England + Australia PS3 sales for Friday / Saturday / most sunday = approx 190,000 ...
not bad considering thats a little over 75% stock sold over the weekend ...

Why would people just STOP buying PS3???????

Its as if you're suggesting that of about 44Million EU who bought PS2 only 200K will buy PS2. Even by Price elasticity with the price about 2twice that of PS2. PS3 should be able to sell 22Million

After the Christmas season, costing nearly $1,000 US, using software emulation in place of hardware emulation, and according to Lemmings/Sheep it has "no good games"....yeah, big deal.

It's not a bribe when the people waiting in line had no idea they were getting one. It was not advertised. You can't spin this..

Because the 360 had massive shortages and didn't wait 4 months to launch their system in Europe.

So not being able to buy a product that I want to buy from retail is actually considered to be a good thing? hahaha. What's the point in releasing your product in all territories when you can't supply them!

Misread it a bit, I thought it meant Europe sales were 165k. Still nothing to brag about considering they did not sell out and still sold less than the PSP did at launch which is doing so well atm. 75% launch sales is crappy.

damage control - playing down the good news. The overabundance was not the funny part. The funny part is so many people wanted and bought the ps3 at the uk launch.

Stop with the free television thing. It wasn't an advertised promotion that Sony did to get people to wait. The people were waiting for the PS3 without the knowledge of a free television.

The PSP sold 185k at launch in the UK, smashing the DS's record of 87k! Teh DS is teh doomed. And no I dont pretend to know how well the PSP is doing in the UK, but I can tell you that the overall sales for the PSP are lagging pretty far behind what everyone predicted them to be.

The Only Reason that DS is killing PSP is because of JPN market

By my logic? 220k Is not exactly the motherload, the PS3 europe launch has been talked up to be the second coming of Christ and the sales were less than spectacular, 165k sales isnt bad but I expected it to sell out.

Misread it a bit, I thought it meant Europe sales were 165k. Still nothing to brag about considering they did not sell out and still sold less than the PSP did at launch which is doing so well atm. 75% launch sales is crappy.

Do you know how the PSP is doing in UK?

The PSP sold 185k at launch in the UK, smashing the DS's record of 87k! Teh DS is teh doomed. And no I dont pretend to know how well the PSP is doing in the UK, but I can tell you that the overall sales for the PSP are lagging pretty far behind what everyone predicted them to be.

The Only Reason that DS is killing PSP is because of JPN market

5Mill PSPs vs 15Million DS

12m vs 7m aint exactly neck and neck.

Well considering it came out over a year after the 360 and months after the wii and it costs over $800 (at least in the UK), no, it is pretty damn impressive :|

SO by your Logic if Sony had 80K in UK and they sold out, that would have been better?

Where do you work?

By my logic? 220k Is not exactly the motherload, the PS3 europe launch has been talked up to be the second coming of Christ and the sales were less than spectacular, 165k sales isnt bad but I expected it to sell out.

for 59 million people 220k is quite alot considering they had about the same amount for the NA launch which we have nearly 300 million people in the US alone.

This is funny because it's not surprising considering they launched 4 months later and had plenty of supply. The Wii and 360 would have had the same kind of launch if they had an overabundence of systems shipped to the stores. What would have been amazing would be if they sold out on launch day. The real test is going come withen the next few months after all the early adopters have bought the PS3 and the casuals have thier turn to buy a next gen. system.

What's the spin here...first, PS3 did horrible, now it's "Big deal".

This is just poor damage control, very poor.

Ok why didn't the PS3 sell out? Next 6 months they will only sell about 500,000 units.

PS3_3DO

Well it Broke the record so thas acceptable.

Why doesn't wii or 360 have that record??

Because the 360 had massive shortages and didn't wait 4 months to launch their system in Europe. :|

Thats called propaganda.
