Poll PC players have higher standards? (120 votes)

Absolutely. It's called The Master Race® for a reason 64%
No 28%
Too busy watching The Order: 1885, I'll get to this in 5 hours 8%

My friends (sorry, this cup is inspired) now that CoD: AW is free to play for the weekend on Steam, I've noticed the game is completely dead.

A yearly franchise in which little to no effort is placed, now you can jump higher so it's revolutionary, but that hasn't helped the PC numbers, probably the lack of dedicated servers has something to do, or perhaps PC players don't bend over so hard to the DLC milkage and mediocrity.

Meanwhile CoD: AW remains on the top selling spots of console games each month, and since there's little dedicated servers can do for analog sticks and auto-aim, console gamers seem generally content with the game.

You can see this as well with one of the major titles from last year, multiple GOTY winner Dragon Age: Inquisition, the user scores for the overrated wannabe-MMO differ greatly on MC.

And the opposite case with underappreciated games like Alien: Isolation, not so drastic, but it's there.

So, can we conclude that PC players just have higher standards and are able to see through BS.

Why are console gamers pleased so easily?

Perhaps it is up to the master race to drive the industry forward to a new generation of gameplay.

What do you think?

That sucks, because Advanced Warfare is actually a great game.

It's not that they have higher standards because they're PC gamers. More console gamers are kids and casual gamers who only play FIFA and COD so naturally, more "hype based" casual games are popular. Generally, as you get older, you transfer to PC. That's it.

Well I know what I'm doing this weekend. I played COD on XB1 this time around, (Ghosts on PS4) and would like to see what a 1440p, 60+ fps version looks like on PC. That price isn't bad either! I'm trying to stop double dipping so much though...

There is nothing wrong with early access. Especially on $20 games. Now console gamers and pre-ordering $60 games they know nothing about is a different story.

Edit: And you missed one! Darkest Dungeon is early access too.

It doesn't mean they have higher standards. They just have more access to mess around in game settings. Higher standards would mean coming up out of the basement, getting a shower and putting a nice set of clothes on.

People want to play with their friends. Hermits don't have friends they just play rts in the basement by themselves.

LMAO. NOPE. PC gamers have the worst standards. They have no self control. They spend $2000 on a PC, another $1000 on steam games, have 100's of games, then they NEVER play any of them! It baffles my mind on how the PC gaming mindset works. This is why they bash console gaming so much to make themselves feel better on all the money they wasted to play terrible RTS and MMO games which don't even need lots of power.

Steam proved it as a fact that PC gamers don't actually play games they buy. I cannot justify getting into PC gaming to waste so much money to play a handful of games.

Yeah, I've noticed that about Advanced Warfare too: free to play yet nobody even seems to bother with it. The COD fad is truly over on PC.

I guess PC gamers truly have highe..... oh wait no, PC gamers are the ones buying all the broken and unplayable early access crap, right ?

PC gamers are the ones who started the trend for utterly abysmal graphically hilarious indie games which look 30 years out of date to be considered 'cool'. High standards? Do they have any standards? Particularly hilarious is some clown who spends 2k on a PC rig then tells everyone how cool it is to play some game that looks like it should be on a Commodore 64.

I consider myself one of the very few 'intelligent' PC gamers who don't indulge in such idiotic practices. I also own a PS4 and an X1 which means I am apparently a 'peasant' though I'm not sure how someone who owns 3 systems reaches peasant status except in the minds of the master race dweebs who can't afford a good PC AND two consoles and spend most of their time rubbing their hands together with glee because they just managed to get some game or other for a bargain price of $5 on steam. Funny old world, eh?

The thing is, PC has a lot more games than consoles. Due to this reason, the games that standout from rest of the crowd are more famous on PC. Either that or devs that have built loyal fanbase by releasing well optimized games have big hits on PC. Anything from Valve and Blizzard sell shit ton of copies on PC for a reason. COD, is same old same old. There are better FPS on PC and from what I've noticed a lot of PC gamers prefer fast paced shooters over military shooters designed primarily for controllers. COD still sells a lot on PC but definitely not as much as any console version. On other hand games like Portal sell more on PC.

We can conclude there is a VAST majority of multiplayer games on the PC compared to console, and gamers are spread out over more games.......

And everyone's standards are different, whos definition of high standards are we talking about?

Pc gamers experience better visuals and higher performance that will make the game very different in a superior way from console counterparts. But as far as game play and innovations on game mechanics? No that's about the same growth rate as console centric games. Other specific arguments are trivial imo. The main selling point of pc is superior performance as well as specific game genres like rts, mobas and better mmos you don't get on consoles and handhelds.

So when you don't have money you make excuses like lack of self control? I can buy a £1500 PC every month if I want to. What job do you have?

Honestly, as a PC gamer, my "standards" have been lowered a lot ever since the PS3 and Xbox 360. Mostly because of the amount of console centered ports that end up on the PC. The games themselves aren't bad if you are playing them on a console, with the intended controls. All that does not always transfer over well to a PC.

A recent example could be Dying Light. It's a fantastic game, I have completed everything in it, and I ate it up, but it was a bit too easy when you have a mouse and keyboard, compared to turret controls on the consoles.

I barely even buy new games anymore. Mostly I just play 5-20 dollar early access indie games.

PC gamers don't have higher standards, they just have highly individualized standards.

As example: For AAA action games I pre-order two franchizes (Borderlands and Saints Row) and pick the rest up, if they look interesting, when their GOTY copy is under $15. For strategy/city building games I throw money at anything the day it looks interesting and don't mind waiting a year for it to finish. Anything that looks like it is tinkering with new game mechanics? Get over here and take my money Darkest Dungeon!!!

I would say these standards are much lower then someone who only plays high budget first party console exclusives, but at the end of the day they are my standards, instead of Microsoft's or Sony's. Yeah, I get a raw deal sometimes, but I also stumble across things like War for the Overworld and Gnomoria, so I will stick with it.

This exactly...i rarely buy a AAA linear game on day one, but i easily dropped money today on the just released point and click adventure The book of Unwritten Tales 2 , and i have money for Cities Skyline which i will be buying the moment i know that it's not another Sim City fiasco....and to me those games are worth my money far more than the standard AAA titles.

Also i have money on 19 kickstarters and lots of early access games, after doing my research on them i buy them if they seem interesting and so far i have not got one turkey in the bunch, even if the quality standard varies due to how complete they are they are still worth the money i spent, but thats all subjective as i personaly love seeing games develop, to me that's part of my purchase, case in point is Kerbal Space Program seeing it grow from it's first release on it's website to what it is now is great to me and it's one of my favourite games of all time even though it's first release was janky as **** :P

Yes, but developers only listen to console gamers so having higher standards makes no difference when developers don't care to meet your standards.

It would be nice to see console developers live up to the PC high standards, but they just don't.

Do some PC players have higher standards?

There are some that do, some that don't. Some people want more than a preconfigured box that you can play games on with some weird dashboard interface stuffed with neutered apps..

There is no doubt that a person that is willing to do the work and build his own PC, work with mods and do all of the things that some PC gamers do to get their gaming on have MUCH higher standards than the AVERAGE console player. That's just how it is.

That's not to say consoles aren't great, they just suck in comparison to PCs and there is nothing to be ashamed about. PCs are damn near infinitely customizable and the variety of games is staggering. There really is no way for it to match up.

All that early access crap you get on PC. You don't get that on consoles!

That sucks, because Advanced Warfare is actually a great game.

CoD inherently is shit

On topic, no, they don't. Whatever big game is about to be released or just released will be the top seller on Steam, even it's a steaming pile of shit like AC Unity. Even after that game got panned it was still a top seller on Steam. You don't suddenly develop good taste just because you built a PC and play video games on it.

Also, all those crappy early access games everyone buys, and DayZ ripoff #9,999
