"Nintendo Europe has confirmed that it wont allow people to download 18+ rated Wii U games before a certain time.

Adults also buy the system, the Wii U has a minor account as well, so it is baffling why it isnt being allowed by Nintendo. When a NeoGAF user tried to contact Nintendo Italy, he was met with this response and we have also confirmed it to be true.

Dear customer, we would like to let you know that Nintendo has always aimed to offer gameplay experiences suited to all age groups, observing carefully all the relevant regulations regarding content access that are present in the various European countries, the Nintendo representative said.

We have thus decided to restrict the access to content which is unsuitable to minors (PEGI) to the 11pm 3am time window.

Coolbeans. Now that their "state of the art" motion control gimmick is pretty much done and over with, there's really little reason to buy another Nintendo console anyway. As there was in the first place.

Because Nintendo needs to protect the young ones from mature content and to do that, they must lock out mature content for all users until they're safely tucked away in bed for night night.

Isn't this just Nintendo of Europe?

I'd hope this doesn't happen in North America as well.

This is kind of indefensible, I expect them to yield quickly.

Mostly not because of users, but because third parties will be pissed.

Freaking hardcore Nintendo , so much for targeting core gamer. "You're an adult and want some games that target your age? You have a job? Better wait 'til 11pm to download our game b!tch!"

Nintendo's European Offices are located in germany which has harsh content viewing laws

I don;t know if this is the exact law preventing the viewing or selling of those digital rated M games on the eshop until late at night but here it is.

Germany protects young people against exposure to alcohol, tobacco, and descriptions of sex and violence in the media. Children below the age of sixteen may not purchase tobacco products or hard spirits; however, other alcoholic beverages may be consumed in public by children between the ages of fourteen and sixteen if they are accompanied by an adult. Children below certain age limits may not visit drinking and dancing places at certain hours of the night.[73]

The protection of young people against sex, violence, and racial hatred extends to virtually all media including books, serial publications, audio and video recordings, television, radio, and the Internet. Restrictions are contained in the federal Youth Protection Act,[74] and these apply primarily to written materials and recordings. Proliferation of sex and violence in the broadcast media and the Internet is governed by an agreement between the German states.

Every new Nintendo article only disappointments me further. So first update hogs up 8 GB drive. UK can view download adult gaming content. Graphics barely better than 360/PS3. Rehashed 1st party stories. It's getting old.

Yeah.If I was some developer wanting to make an 18+ game for the e-shop, I would probably be pissed off.

And the last thing Nintendo should be doing is pissing off third parties.

is this something Sony and Microsoft do as well with their eShops in Germany?

that plus aren't parental controls enough?

Nintendo of Europe is taking things too far here.

Are their european branches located in Germany? Germany would've forced Nintendo to do this. They're quite strict about their laws.

Wait, this is only in Germany? If so...I don't particularly care. I thought it was worldwide...

This isn't really Nintendo. It's a rule for Germany to protect their children. Nintendo is just abiding by it so they can keep selling Consoles in Germany; which i respect. Way to twist it.

Wow.... I seriously think Nintendo needs to get with the time. I mean I have Nintendo consoles spanning since the NES, but this is probably why it hasn't gotten much attention since the N64 days.... Even than my PlayStation was where I spent most of my time on. I only play them for exclusive first party titles, and majority on Xbox or PlayStation.

WTF Ninty. They claim they want Wii U to be hardcore and they are doing this crap. If 720 and PS4 did this their would be outrage.
