A lot of new games suck. This is objectively true. However, some new games are objectively awesome, and prove that original content that can stand with the golden era of gaming--or just better eras in general--do exist, and are still being made. This game, just recently released, is one of those games. It's amazing. I have no idea why more people aren't talking about it.

So what games do you think are keeping good gaming alive?

There’s a lot of great games that have come out in recent years and that are slated for the future that I loved and am looking forward to. Some off the top of my head are:

Recent releases

- Monster Hunter World: Iceborne

- Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak

- Kirby and the Forgotten Land

- Bayonetta 3

- Xenoblade Chronicles 3

- Triangle Strategy

- Elden Ring

- Resident Evil 2 Remake

- Final Fantasy VII Remake

- Devil May Cry 5

- Forza Horizon 5

- Halo Infinite

- God of War 2018

Upcoming releases

- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

- Callisto Protocol

- Forza Motorsport 8

- Pragmata

- Street Fighter 6

- Tekken 8

- Resident Evil 4 Remake

- Final Fantasy XVI

- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth

- Dead Space Remake

Probably a whole bunch more I could list. I’ve been gaming since the Atari 2600 days and there’s more great stuff coming out these days then I have time to keep up with.

Darktide. I can't seem to stop playing it, and it's just beta so far. Launching tomorrow! A new game I like, yay! :P

Signalis does look cool.. Not sure why no one has feet though.

Desperado 3 felt like an updated 90s game and Streets Of The Rage 4 felt like an updated 90s game.

Noticed SOR4 was a lot of people's GOTY here last year.

Guess we don't suck.

right, I downloaded this game on gamepass, and it was actually pretty interesting. Its completely silent, no dialog, nothing telling you what to do, you don't even know whats going on except you wake up in a ship. You explore the environment and try figuring it out. I couldn't get past the first level though I didn't really give it too much of a look because of my other games. Great game though, you could tell its going to be good right from the start. #day1gamepass

Also other games, like halo infinite are keeping gaming alive.

Sonic Frontiers was the first new game I've enjoyed in 2 and a half years, and I'm hoping for a new game plus and boss rush mode patch. For next year, I'm looking forward to Like a Dragon Gaiden and the Ishin Remake, as well as FFVII: Rebirth.

I'm also always replaying SoR4 and P5R (steam deck ver. this time).

Clearly inspired by the Japanese graphic novel Blame!. I've long thought some skilled developer should collaborate with the mangaka on something.

Ok, then don't play golf lol. But many on SW should just retire from gaming and go play golf.

@warm_gun: ohh I think I heard of that manga from somewhere, but I haven't been into the scene for a while. Either way, this is a decent game. And gaming definitely isn't dead, theres so much creativity out there, you just need to look outside the MSM.

majority of SW users are over 40 plus.

20 year old kids use facebook groups and youtube to discuss gaming or are in reset era.

Yeah, but gaming has always been that. The good/great stuff has always been far outweighed by a bunch of slop.

Only significant difference now is that even our bigger budget games have joined in the mess. Whereas back in the day, usually a big budget also meant a good game. As being a good game was a bigger selling point.

But my freind, two of your most loved games of all time are mainstream movie games.

1) Mafia (before movie game was even term), it's a proto-game to the likes of Uncharted. No question. Exact same type of DNA.

2. Alan Stayawake

The logic here doesn't make sense. Fall in the same crowd as those you would so enthusiastically condemn.

Loop logic my freind.

A big loop.

Yeah, almost responded to that the other day. Just decided let it be at the time.

Industry isn't gonna crash. But even if it did, wouldn't change shit on the other side. Not like some brilliant new industry rises from the ashes.

Gaming got big and it went the same way as anything else that does so. We had our golden age of originators and innovators. Mainstream appeal kicks in. Vampires take notice, rush in, suck out the soul, dumb things down. Hijack the sections with broadest appeal.

But you still have people out there striving to create worthwhile content and try new things. If you were around before the shit show, now you just have to be more discerning in your selections. Easy to focus on the shit, but there's still plenty of good.

Can see this in any medium, genre, sub-genre, etc.

Crash the game industry, we just circle back at a faster rate is all.

Mafia is pure gamey game. one of few third person cinematic game that feel like game and not movie. not cover based shooter or QTE or slow cinematic walking.

Alan wake again. max payne meet horror game. now slow cinematic walking. just pure gamey game.

Mafia is 100% in the same vein as something like Uncharted.

It's the chimpanzee to its human eating a packet doritos.

The entire thing is emulating a movie where instead of an open-world environment or intricate sandbox full of possibilities, it's essentially a window dressing movie set to push the player onto the next scene.

Its main focus is cutscenes with the gameplay to service them as opposed to the other way around.

One of the first real (in real life) examples of what we would term "a movie game".

Which is the weird dichotomy currently inhabit.

Condemn them, but actually love them.

Back in those days I was playing Duke The Nukem and The Quake 3.

Wasn't a movie game guy.

Now play old games and ignore modern things.

Mafia was challenging game, doesnot had regen health or wall cover to be consier like uncharted.

Mafia doesnot take 4 hours doing nothing then game begins then doing nothing.

most of time you are playing a game. you are immersed in the world. the world of lost heaven city.

its immersive and atmospheric.

Metal: Hellsinger. It's one of the most innovative shooters I've ever played. You slay demons in time with the background music. It has a lot of metal singers on the soundtrack, like Serj Tankian from System of a Down, Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy, Matt Heafy from Trivium and Randy Blythe from Lamb of God. In a genre like FPS, creativity is chronically lacking. However, with Hellsinger, they totally hit it out of the park. I hope they make a sequel.

Video games aren't dead. We have been complaining about lack of originality since the 1990s, yet here we are 30 years later and the video bizz is still going strong. Games in the old days had to rely much more on originality, because graphical options were so limited. Nowadays games tend to rely way too much on graphics alone, and while that fact sucks, I still believe there are plenty of fun games around or to look forward to.

nope. its dead.

only remaster games released now adays. no quality titles and certainly no new aaai pees.

Deathloop was remaster version of 00s FPS, Doom Eternal play like modern warfare and uncharted 4, Atomic heart is remaster version of bioshock, Callisto protocol is resident evil code veronica remake, STALKER 2 is sequel to franchise that release yearly. Alan wake 2 is sequel to assasssins creed. who cares who cares??

only upcoming games are remasterd. no new ips or sequel. boo them. crash the entire industry.

I agree we should crash the industry but first we need to hype up the games and pretend we care about the gaming industry to fool people. Then we take what's ours matey and not give a dime to the industry thanks Ghost for getting a head start you are helping. 👍🏼

to be honest in every generation there are more bad games than good games explain by conan.

games you bring up for 7th gen are bad. or mediocre tier.

currently playing Mass effect trilogy LE and despite I enjoy its lore and universe and also story. its gameplay, its so bad. its just third person wall cover shooter badly done. with terrible squad AI system. is this we need in gaming again??

nah, I rather play Prey 2017 which feel more intelligent deep immersive experience.

Bioshock was walking in straight line mediocre shooter.. nah I rather have Deathloop or upcoming Atomic heart which looks far more deeper.

Resident evil 4 was the game that was prototype for todays movie game.

Cyberpunk 2077. Really awesome take on open world. Everything you do has a narrative context and handcrafted feel. It’s the antidote to ”the Ubisoft formula”.

Recent games.... Monster Hunter World. Incredible game I thought all we get is another monster hunter but dev streamlined all those cumbersome mechanics, lots of QOL changes and vastly improved monster behaviour conpared to older games. Hope we get another MHW like game, the world felt so real and I like many spent hours just running around observing monster and gathering, and its fun!

Other than that its pretty dead. Only other game that will revive my hype is Bloodborne 2. Bloodborne 2 please exist.
