@ConanTheStoner: Hey how is the music score in the game, is it a lot more present this time around or is it subtle and ambient like in BotW?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
@jaydan:
Still leans hard into that BotW ambience, though there's a good deal more variety, at least from the areas I've been (game is massive, still a lot I haven't seen). And when it does ramp up, they really nail it. Good stuff all around.
Only bummer is that it's not all new music. Most of it is, but then you'll hop on a horse, ride by a stable, hit some frigid region, and it's like oh, this track again lol. Could have at least altered the arrangements, goes a long ways towards a different feel.
@ConanTheStoner: how many hours are you into the game? I probably won’t be able to catch up with you lol
@SolidGame_basic:
No way to tell exactly, I hopped back n forth between emulators a lot at first. Low estimate, probably like 60 hrs lol. Been exploring and engaging with just about everything I come across tho. Only "cleared" one of the major regions and tbh there's probably still more to do there.
Game is stupid big bro. And I don't just mean more content dense.

Dang, you’re so efficient lol. But I remember BOTW hooking me in.
@ConanTheStoner: 😆 DLC costume?
Time for me to break out my Tingle costume!
😮
@SolidGame_basic: As a HUGE Tingle fan he better at least be referenced in Tears of the Kingdom or I’m going to give the game a 0/10. No Tingle = Fail

@ConanTheStoner?
lol
Haven't seen anything in game yet, but I think there was a Tingle looking dude in the art book leak.
@Archangel3371: and to think Nintendo thinks we’re a bunch of 40 year olds going through a midlife crisis
@SolidGame_basic: 40 is but a distant memory for me now. 😢
You’re old enough to remember the first Calamity Ganon? 😄
Guys, Jesus is going to fight fashion with cheese.
You'll know when the time comes.
wow.. you weren’t kidding about this game giving you things you didn’t know you wanted lol
BOTW is the best game ever made but was lacking in story/dungeons and sounds like this is going to improve on those things so yeah couldnt be more hyped. I wanted to get the collectors edition but I have not once seen it in stock be it amazon, Best Buy etc. When it was first announced I looked and it wasnt listed yet a few hours later it was listed and just said coming soon and never changed.
Bet that Switch depression dude is one of these kids grown up.
Best worst game commercial ever btw
@ConanTheStoner: Hey Conan, I've seen Nintendo say that the map is largely the same except for the obvious sky islands and, of course it being a new game, they have to mix things up on the old map from BotW. I was wondering from your experience playing, how similar is the world to that of BotW and does it kinda sour the overall experience of it being the "same" map as before (excluding the sky island regions of course)?
That's really the only thing that kinda stinks for me. I can't think of too many games that have the same map as a previous iteration. So when I heard and saw the overworld being very similar, I was kinda disappointed.
@poe13:
When I first got to the "mainland" there was this instant feeling of yeah, a bit too familiar. But it faded pretty quickly. Of course the main regions are still organized the same, but each (that I've visited) have undergone such significant changes. So many new structures, chasms, cave systems, etc. Bodies of water added/removed/changed. New hazards like quicksand, bogs, gloom, whirlpools, etc. New settlements. Tons of new enemy encampment types, more elaborate than any of their BotW counterparts.
From a big picture standpoint, it's largely the same Hyrule. But on the ground level, not so much. Like currently I'm making my way through Lanayru having little grasp on my orientation. The only major region I've explored pretty thoroughly is Gerudo Desert. Some areas now overflown by sandstorms, others revealed, a wide open chasm, sinkholes leading to intricate caverns and underground ruins, Zonai architecture that's fallen from the sky. Even structures from the previous game have sizeable extensions.
Man, there's one REALLY BIG THING about this game that Nintendo hasn't revealed and I'd just hate to spoil it for anyone. I'd say go back and watch the games very first trailer, when the game was still called BotW sequel. Then let your imagination run wild lol.
But beyond the changes and additions to the world itself, the content they present and the way you go about tackling it makes for the most significant changes.
@poe13:
Yeah, no prob. I really couldn't give you the complete answer lol. What I said about watching the first trailer again, definitely do that haha.
@poe13: I heard another person that's playing the game that the overworld that made up BotW is majorly changed in TotK, claimed at least over 80% different.
Also do no underestimate the sky islands. I hear this portion is about as large as the mainland as well. And the unrevealed thing Conan is also alluding towards is about as expansive as the mainland as well.
So think of that: mainland is significantly changed, and several other major distinct sections (i.e sky islands) that basically are just as large to explore.
I think they've been teasing with familiarity in the reveals to temper the expectations only to blow them out of the water when people ultimately get to experience the game. Probably why they chose to have the review embargo held onto day release, so these surprises don't spread prematurely before people get to experience them for themselves.
Ha, yeah really struggling with how to respond without saying too much. Almost threw out a percentage for how much bigger the map probably is, but even that might be too spoilerish.
If you liked BotW, this game is gonna blow your tits off. I loved BotW, but it just seems like a skeleton of a game in comparison. Changes are drastic. Additions are basically what you'd expect from Nintendo working 6 years on an already established template.
Can't wait until everyone is playing it.
@Maroxad: It only matters when the scores are real, and not just a 5/10 game wearing a 8/10 t-shirt. Ragnarok as a good example, is a real banger.
What determines if a score is real or fake?
Usually its me. I filter the shovelware.
So in the end, it boils down to your opinion. So appearantly, games like Metroid Prime Remastered, Fire Emblem Engage and Advance Wars don't exist, because you (who havent even played them) deem them shovelware... smh.
Regardless, it is objectively false that everyone is being funnelled down one game. Because the Switch has had 3 high scoring exclusives this year alone. 4 if you count that Xenoblade DLC. TotK is simply selling well because it is a good game. To further hurt your narrative, I am pretty sure a good chunk of that 120m have other systems to play as well. PC gaming is almost as large the markets for all 3 consoles combined.

When I played Guild Wars 2, I hated that bit. I hope it wont irk me as much as it did in GW2.
No reviews yet? Wtf, game releases tomorrow!
The review embargo lifts today.
I’m hoping 8am eastern!
And it's a 10/10 from GS!
We already knew this was gonna happen. We were all calling it a 10/10 before it actually being a 10/10. Lol
We always had faith 😎
Most overrated franchise ever. Gets a 10 just for being Zelda. What could it possibly have improved on BOTW? Any other franchise would have more expected of it from a 6 year hiatus.
Fully expect a 9 on GS and low-mid 90's on MC. Just hoping they did enough to differentiate from BotW.
Doubtful. It's gonna get it's 10s just because it's Zelda.

Based on people who have actually played the game. Pretty much EVERYTHING.
No seriously, people are saying that this game makes BotW look like a tech demo.
