[QUOTE="starjet905"][QUOTE="PinkieWinkie"]Yeah who cares about graphics, disc swapping, and HD res....nobody. .001%.

PinkieWinkie

You do know that Wii gamers don't care about graphics and HD res, right?

And 99% of them are casual gamers, welcome to 5 years ago.

Casual gamers are like the biggest portion of the gaming population now. Hurr durr. I'd like to see a casual gamer play Xenoblade Chronicles, btw. ;)

llol...the hell are you talking about? read post above

PinkieWinkie

I'm just curious; How did you get "Nobody cares about Graphics, disc swapping, and HD Resolution" out of "Your logic is seriously flawed if you think .1% of the gaming population cares about disc swapping."because last I checked, I never said anything about the general gaming population caring about Graphics and HD Resolution.

I really want to know; How in the absolute Hell did you get that?

Its called sarcasm...obviously people care.

....what?

I don't see the problem. Installation is optional, and swapping the disk 10-15 hours into the game (assuming it's as long as they say) is hardly an issue. Did it with ME2 and Dead Space 2 and that didn't affect my enjoyment of either game in any way.

When you consider that the PS3 version has a mandatory installs, it's even less troublesome.

I am installing it (never said I wasn't going to).

Also, just out of curiosity, where are you getting that the texture pop-in is that bad when the game's uninstalled?

360 version is going to be the best selling version, all Id fans on PC will not be happy with Rage since its a console port and just now Id fans are getting mods right with Id tech 4, id tech 5 wont save Rage on PC

I'm gonna get the 360 version. Not gonna install, don't mind disc switching. Loads of cIassic games have that, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy 7 and Baldur's Gate to name a couple. Never bothered me, it's 10 seconds to switch and is only once every few hours....

Only a person who started gaming this gen would have a problem changing discs! I have been doing it all my life with games like Monkey Island, Beneath a Steel Sky, Phantasmagoria, River, etc, etc...

Lol so if you dont install all 3 discs then you get mad texture poppin...but either way you are going to be switching discs. This basically guarantees the 360 version to get a lower score here at GS. Sucks if you only game on a 360....

PinkieWinkie

I will buy it on 360 exactly because i wont have to wait for an installation at all, you dont have to install the game on 360

That is what 360 si about, gaming, not waiting for installations in inferior systems

Well it's obvious that everyone with a decent PC is better off getting the PC version, but if you had to buy a console version the PS3 version looks better

Can we really not wait until the game comes out? I've played LA noire at a friends for a couple hours with disc swaps and own mass effect 2 (2 discs) and as far as I was aware, it was exactly the same as the Ps3 version. Rage could be a different story but honestly if the game is that big you'll have to swap discs like every 10 hours. And yes PS3 installs are massive, I couldn't play GT5 for 2 hours because of 8 patches and an install (which was only 6gb)

I buy all my multiplats for the my 360. I'm also healthy, so getting up to change a disk isn't a big deal. With that said, I've played Borderlands & Fallout already, so I probably won't be playing Rage.

Twin-Blade
You need to be educated... watch some interviews/gameplay vids of the game.... sure those games u mention share similarities.... but if you think you've played RAGE, because you've played Fallout and Borderlands, then think again, my friend. Anyways... its PC for me

major texture popin? this has nothing to do with the required install on the ps3 or the disc based gameplay of the 360 version there have been games on the ps3 that had far more popin on the ps3 version even after a required install...and usually the 360's installs dominate over what the ps3's required installs actually do for you, they aren't just for decreasing noise they usually increase load times and clear up other problems far beyond what the ps3 versions required install does.

We've yet to even see the game compared in each version and its not even been released yet...so...

WilliamRLBaker
They confirm that if you do not instal the game there would be textures pop in,which has been criticize on some PS3 and other 360 games as well. That say is not a big deal,or a deal breaker from where i see it.

FPS typically don't have all the content big RPG's do (which typically came one multiple discs before), they don't need it.

Hope that helps :P

Look it up yourself. Carmack himself stated that its either all or nothing but if you are honestly playing it on 360 you really should wait it out and do the full 22gb install.

The size of the data is not necessarily related to the amount of content a game has. There are plenty of other things that affect it.

First, it's not a 22GB install, since only two of the disks are for single player (what would be around 14-15GB), the third one is for the multiplayer.

Secondly, Carmack I never said pop in would be an issue, he said that installing would improve the game, but that's obvious, and applies to every game, that's the whole point of installing in the first place.

So please, post where exactly Carmack said pop in would be such a terrible issue than installing would be "mandatory".

Still splitting my sides, its totally ridiculous in this day and age. If every game on the 360 had this problem I'd need an external HDD for my external HDD.

The difference between PS3 and 360 versions is going to be incredibly minor at best (as with all multiplats). I'll get it (if I decide to) on whichever.

you cant do full game installs on ps3 only partial. lol hdd=faster than dvd or blu ray. you can do full game installs on xbox360. pwned?hohomerryhoho

Lol I clearly haven't been paying attention. Just goes to show that I need to play my ps3 a bit more :P So can you or someone else explain why it's just a partial install? Is this something with the ps3 hardware for why they can't do a full install? I hear people mention something about the OS in the ps3 but I'm not sure.

In any case if the ps3 only does a partial install then lol wouldn't that mean that it has to partially rely on the slow blu-ray drive hence resulting in more texture pop-in than the FULLY installed 360 version?

That actually just reinforces my decision to get the 360 version without question.

....and isn't it 2 discs for the campaign and 1 disc for multiplayer? So what's the problem? I'll get up once for the campaign to switch disks and I'm done...no biggie. Then once I'm done the multiplayer disc will sit in my 360 because that's where I'll end up spending my time in the end. Again... what's the problem LOL?

Lol, exaggerate much TC?

HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE:

A Fully installed Rage on the 360 plus getting up to switch disks only once>>>>>>>>>>>>>a partially installed rage on the ps3 which will result in texture pop-up due to having to partially rely on the slow blu-ray drive

Its not mandatory really...but the only reason why you wouldnt do it is because you dont have enough space.

"On the 360 we don't have a partial install option; it's all or nothing, which is kind of unfortunate. It means you have to install 21/22GB of stuff which takes a long time but if you've got it and you play it on the 360 that's the way to go." http://www.computerandvideogames.com/314526/rage-360-all-or-nothing-install-is-kind-of-unfortunate-carmack/

He said if you dont install it all there will be texture paging, aka texture pop in. Jesus dude you are like a little kid having to explain everything to you.

PinkieWinkie

First, that was already clarified later, and explained how you don't need the third disk.

Secondly, I already know installing improves how the game runs, that applies to every game (that's the whole point of installing).

That doesn't answer my question, where does he say "it needs to be installed", which has been your whole argument in this thread.

Actually its more like PS3 partial install = 360 full install. Only difference is disc swapping and a long ass install time associated with the 360. Good try though.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't that go for the PC as well since I'm guessing the PC version has the same amount of disks as the 360 where by both can do a One time full install Once & Done. ? :P

firstly, where is all this talk coming from that there will even be any texture pop-in without the install on the 360, secondly, if theres texture pop-in on the 360 when running it from the disk then there will sure as hell be texture pop-in when running it from the disk on the ps3 version,at least 360 owners have the option to eliminate the texture pop-in by installing, ps3 owners will be stuck with it,i love the way the TC assumes that everybody is as lazy as him and that changeing the disk is apparently a monumental challenge.

Well on 360 you get a choice of installing or not. On PS3 you have to install. The reason for this is the game uses a technique normally only used on the PS3 called texture streaming. Personally I think all versions will be good and fun to play, ID doesn't put out botch jobs, so get whatever version you want.

Actually its more like PS3 partial install = 360 full install. Only difference is disc swapping and a long ass install time associated with the 360. Good try though.

But you're acting as though it's such a big deal. I'll get up once during the campaign  Don't you see how silly you sound right now? LOL.

No actually it wasnt. If you dont install you get teture paging. l2read.PinkieWinkie
You get pop in a lot of games this gen, and , unless it's drastic (which rarely is in most high profile games), it's not an issue. But you have ben saying, during this entire thread, that it's so bad it requires to be installed, and still haven't provided anything to back that up, making your point (so far) invalid.

I'd get the 360 version over the PS3 version if it performs better. That's why I chose MoH on 360 instead of PS3. I don't care if the PS3 version comes with a free game, I'd way rather have the performance even if it's just slightly better, not to mention the 360 controller is WAY better suited for FPS'. That being said, if/when I do get it, it will be on PC.

If the developers recommend a full install to prevent texture paging, then its gotta be pretty bad.
