PC gamers and fellow weeaboos don't let me down. Time to show Japan some love! Yes, you may have played it on the PSP eons ago but it's originally a Japanese PC title, hence the SW cred (PC > PSP). This is from the same folks who make Ys so you're know in for a treat. If Ys rubbed you the wrong way because it's a little too fast paced or you you finished it in under 10 hours then you're still in good hands because now you get yourself a little bit of turn-based action with dozens of hours of content. Yeah, a lot of it is probably filler but considering you're reading means you're probably already a fan of JRPGs with some filler.

Reasons why you should play it

• Strategic turn-based gameplay (don't wanna see any divinity original sin players talking shit in this thread)
• Generic, terrible english voice acting (only during battles)
• Fairly interesting political story of sorts
• Enough filler to make your dollar-to-hour performance ratio seem like a steal
• Don't want to grind? Change difficulty in-between battles accordingly
• Carry game clear data + story decisions to the sequel

Y's is my favorite action rpg series, pity they come out less often than I'd like.

it's crazy that they released the remaster for PS3 on Japan but the localized western version is only for Steam where it's gonna sell like shit.

It's just like SNK releasing most of their games exclusive to Xbox and then not understanding why the company's at the verge of bankruptcy just like Mistwalker.

Graphics-wise? Yeah, it's a pretty old game that only finally got translated and updated for PC now in preparation for the sequel. Other games in the series pending.
Actual game? Couldn't tell you, but everyone I've seen who played both this and the sequel (nevermind the rest of the series) regard the two combo'd as one of the best RPGs out there.

XSEED's counting on it not selling like shit and, well, they've been translating and updating the Ys games then putting them up on Steam for the past couple of years. I'm sure they know what the Hell they're doing. :P

@Technoweirdo: I've heard good things about these games and had meant to pick them up for PSP way back. I won't purchase anytime soon but if it gets a nice deal I may just consider it, especially with the high praise.

Please buy this game guys, this amazing series is on its last legs when it comes to localization.

The story is completely original and doesn't involve your standard JRPG party that ends up saving the world. It's literally a novel in a video game that focuses on your party's relationships, instead of their place in the world. The characters are fantastic and they have a lot of growth throughout the game. The battle system is like FFX if it were an SRPG.

You may ask yourself, "why does this game look like an SNES game?" Because it's a remake of an SNES (or was it ps1?) game. We fans in NA are literally more than 4 games behind compared to Japan, and it's newest titles look simply amazing. I would like to play them someday, so I ask that you all consider adding this game to your steam/gog library. :)

They´ve been extremely sucessful with their previous releases on steam wich actually sold more than the console ports(the Ys series,according to Siliconera),so don´t worry,they know what they´re doing and they definitely know where the money is.

....didn't look very strategic--just your typical attack, attack, heal, attack affair....certainly nowhere near as good as the glory of Divinity OS's super fucking amazing, complex, shits-on-JRPG-TBC battle system. Sorry, couldn't resist when you tempt me like that. In all seriousness, it looks alright. I'll check it out. SRPGs tend to be better than your typical JRPG garbage.

This game has bbkkristian's Seal of Approval. Trust me, I would never lead you guys to a purchase you would regret.

Played this 3 years or so ago on PSP... I could play it agian anytime on my vita where JRPGS are better played, imo. I can't imagine setting at my desk playing this or any other jrpgs... thats console terrietory. PCs are for top down mouse and keyboard games like Baldurs gate, civ, etc.... not jrpgs... But if you don't own a psp/vita sure pick it up. It's a great game!

It was released in 2010-11 on PSP in the states. I have it on my vita right now...

I don't know how to feel about this game just going off of Ys's gameplay of running into enemies to kill them.

I can't really look at Ys, and think "Nihon Falcom knows how to make good games", but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since it seems a lot of people like them.

Turn-based RPGs are pretty much an alien life form on the PC.

He could be right. Playing a game that uses an isometric view on the PC? That's unheard of! And it's only made worse when you consider you can use any controls you want...

It's an old niche RPG with outdated graphics. PC is pretty much the only place where it can sell well in the west. Lol at thinking PS3 version could make them more money.

Time will tell, doesn't matter where they come from, new releases tend to sell well on Steam regardless of their art style, origin or title.

I'll just wait until they remaster Star Citizen.

Hopefully, the sequel will also come out soon. That's one reason I kept leaving the PSP version aside.
