Is the rest of the industry playing catch up to Sony's first party?

From top to bottom Sony's first party is rock solid. Every studio they own is capable of delivering AAA bangers. Every studio they partner with (Housemarque) puts out their best games under Sony. That's because just working with Sony and being around their industry leading talent raises their morale and gives them the confidence they need to deliver bangers.

Rockstar rivals Sony's quality but they are on a one game every 6+ years release schedule.

Nintendo is top heavy. Once you look past Mario, Zelda and Smash their first party really starts to expose itself as generally being AA at best.

CDPR proved themselves to be a one hit wonder.

Capcom isn't great right now aside from RE and MH.

Microsoft hasn't released a banger in a decade that wasn't a racing game.

Square is pretty much a joke these days outside of FF7R and Nier.

EA, Ubi, Acti are lol worthy.

Am I leaving anyone out? Is there any other company in the industry who can match Sony's game output in both high quality and high quantity?

Man... I miss the PS2 days of Rockstar where we got quite a few incredible titles throughout the generation. One game per gen is pathetic.

I enjoy a good blockbuster AAA experience when done well, but those types of games are.... how do you say... a bit mindless and boring after a while.

I don't think there's any doubt that Sony's first party is top tier 😎 And if there is, it's usually by people whose name rhymes with Lemdro or Farchie.

Well I would imagine that any company wants compelling products that push consumers to purchase their product and/or buy into their ecosystem. I kind of doubt that they’re “chasing Sony” specifically.

Also Witcher 1 is easily the most interesting Witcher game.... just not the best game game. Witcher 2 had garbage game play. W3 was one of those AAA blockbuster games that I thought was really cool and barely managed to finish before I got bored with it.

CP2077 is easily CDPR's most fun game, even with all the issues.

Agreed. Sony's first party is the gold standard for the gaming industry.

I think that at this point it's hard to argue that SONY doesn't have the most diverse lineup of exclusives, but you look at games like MLB The Show going multiplat and other companies pushing to either even the playing field or even pull ahead and it truly makes me wonder how long that will remain the case if SONY once again allows their arrogance to get in the way of what they are capable of. I'm still waiting on this strong push on the multiplayer side of things for SONY... I sure hope that games like Destruction All Stars isn't what they were talking about.

It's clear that Sony fans are threatened by Nintendo's console and exclusives selling well this gen. When the console first surpassed Xbox, Sony fans were cheering and celebrating. Now that the Switch has a real opportunity to outsell the PS4, they're trashing us.

Pretty sure Kvally and Dynamitecop are different people. Honestly though, who really knows anymore? There is an absurd amount of lemming alts running around this place ranging from 15+ year old accounts with under 100 posts to brand new accounts and they all post the same exact pro-Xbox/anti-Sony drivel. It's just sad.

In my opinion of all their studios 5 are top tier that produce games that I always enjoy. So compared to rest of the industry that's pretty impressive.

Maybe not recently but I'm talking about over the years, I didn't do a great job signifying that. SONY has definitely been slacking as of late, but let's not pretend that hasn't been the going trend with the other 2 either... but they promise more is coming, so we'll see how that goes. I do know they have at least 4 multiplayer games they are working on that are still unannounced. Chances are at least 2 are FPS with the way things look. I'm also still hoping to get a SOCOM announcement, but I'm certainly not holding my breath.

All 3 are in a great position right now. I just call them as I see them and there is a reason why I always get all 3 and play on PC and mobile as well.. I don't like limiting my choices.

Looking at Sony's incredible first party lineup for the rest of 2021, I have to agree.

It's just world-class title after world-class title. You could easily support yourself playing nothing but Sony's in-house games all year round. They truly excel at every genre, and cater to every demographic.

Nintendo and Sega and everyone else may as well give up and go home.

Everyone wishes they could be sony right now imo

@zerothehero: Why would Nintendo wish that they were Sony? The Switch sales have been on fire ever since launch and many of they’re first party games are selling like hot cakes. Even simple ports of previous gen games. Nintendo has been killing it for the last four years or so.
