How's Killzone Shadow Fall? What's the best PS4 exclusive outside of Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted 4?

So the narrative goes that the PS4 exclusive line wasn’t anything until Bloodborne came out, then Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted, even though I had a good deal of fun with titles like inFamous Second Son and The Order.

While Second Son was positively received, The Order was critically panned. In between those game's receptions was the launch title from Guerilla Games, that being Killzone Shadow Fall, notorious for its high trade in rate, and low amount of thrills and multiplayer player count. Yet for someone who enjoys FPS games, and no, I’m not picking up Doom 4, is this a game that’s enjoyable in single player?

Outside of the SW trio of often-mentioned PS4 exclusives (again, Bloodborne, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted 4, all games I’ve loved playing), what’s your favorite PS4 exclusive?

I thought it was kind of unique, I enjoyed it mainly because I played through it with my girlfriend.

inFAMOUS Second Son. Probably MLB The Show if we go with the looser definition of "exclusives" though.

@Blabadon: infamous second son is one of the better exclusives. driveclub is nice if you like realistic racers but it lacks customization with the vehicles.

Killzone shadow falls single player is incredibly boring

Also, until dawn is phenomenal

I bought KZSF with my PS4 back in early 2014. Played it twice and forgot about it. I have yet to progress past the 4th stage. I tell myself I'll get back on it, but it's already been two years. Wasn't fun enough to stay on my mind for long. I can tell you that the guns feel excellent with the rail gun being my early fav.

And my fav PS4 exclusive besides UC4, BB, and R&C is Infamous Second Son followed by First Light, followed by Until Dawn. All good games imho. I'm trying to get into Alienation, but all it does is make me wanna play Helldivers. Never played Knack or The Order. Bought Driveclub; not too crazy about it.

KZ:SF is okay, worth at least a single playthrough. But the next best PS4 exclusive is either Resogun or Tearaway: Unfolded.

First few levels in Shadow Fall are pretty decent. I had high hopes for the rest of the game. Once you get to like the halfway point though it really becomes dull with some real crap levels.

Overall, not worth the time. If you're looking for a FPS, go with Wolfenstein or Black Ops 3 or something other than Shadow Fall (which I'm sure you know about.)

My favorite exclusive other than those three games? If remastered games don't count (which I'd probably go The Last of Us then, but of course they don't count) then I guess inFamous: Second Son. It was a pretty average game though.

If you like David Cage style games, I'd recommend Until Dawn. Also, if you're in the United States, you can get a disc import from UK from third parties on the US Amazon site for Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls collection for PS4. A lot of people didn't like Beyond: Two Souls, I loved the story, but as far as the cause and effect thing goes it was really lacking, but great story regardless.

There's a really good twin stick shooter I had a lot of fun with - Helldivers. Otherwise if you haven't given The Last of Us Remastered a try definately do so as it is amazing. All in all the PS4 has much better exclusives than the Xbone.

I personally thought it was rather simple like a Telltale game even, but again I ignore it's simplicity there because of the story being just so good. I personally thought Indigo Prophecy / Fahrenheit did the best job mixing QTEs with the action-consequence system with some actual meaningful variety, only problem there is it now looks like ass to play compared to the later Quantic Dream games.

Anyhow, simple solution there, just play Until Dawn, plays like a older Quantic Dream game but looks like a new one.

  • KZSF - Never really played the previous titles (extensively), so maybe that's why I enjoyed it.
  • DC - Lousy initial release that was "beefed up" considerably over the last year. The addition of Motorcycles pushed it over the top for me.
  • Infamous SS - Had a great time with this release, but never really re-played it.

..otherwise it's been pretty much all multiplats (which isn't a bad thing) excluding BB, R&C and UC4 of course.

The problem with Heavy Rain was the story was trash. All of this crazy unexplainable stuff happens later in the game that just says, "**** it." and throws all realistic plot driven synopses out the window. Like when she hid in a fridge in a burning apartment(which would have cooked her alive), and then magically appeared outside the apartment just 30 seconds later.

I wanted to try Beyond: Two Souls, eventually, but I hope it's better in the story regard.

Killzone: Shadow Fall doesnt deserved to have the name Killzone.

Its is complete shit. I loved KILLZONE 2 and 3 but Shadow Fall was a slap to the face of KZ fans.

The SP offer no thrills like KZ2-3. Its boring and stale, and to disrespect us even further, they made the shitty final fight impossible to beat (part of the reason why people just traded in the game).

Its not a KZ game at all, but its also a really shitty game aswell. The multiplayer was garbage and structure terrible, when KZ 2 and 3 had awsome multiplayer. Its a spin-off game that dose nothing the previous KZs did or had.

Stay away from that crapp even if its on sale for 50 cents.

Infamous is eh.... its juts the PS3 games but with a new guy, bad camera, and pretty plastic graphics. Not really worth the time

I agree that Killzone shadowall was "off".

I loved playing KZ2 and KZ3 on PS3 - Shadowfall had a completely different feel. I didn't even play the multplayer either, I'm just referring to the single player. It starts you out with like a 15 minute scripted sequence, which I always cannot stand... and it didn't get much better from there. A few of the level layouts were quite odd too... it is more open than the PS3 games, but in a weird way, not in a productive way.

I should probably give it another chance eventually, but at this point there are better games to play so it's tough to go back to it.

It wasn't as boring/unplayable as some suggested.

The universe was great, but the level layout was pretty bad. Felt like almost everything was a tight corridor - gets annoying playing wack-a-mole with enemies after awhile. There was no reason for a PS4 game to be more linear/restrictive then Last of Us or last gen Uncharted's.

Blab, I guess give Until Dawn a try? Heard good things about it. The PS4 version of Tearaway is apparently also sufficiently different from the Vita version, so that may be something else you want to give a go, especially since you liked Tearaway on the Vita so much. Finally, and I know you generally dislike the series, but you may as well give it a go- LittleBigPlanet 3 exists, and I mean, it is what it is, so maybe try that?

KZ:SF, Driveclub, Bloodborne, Infamous & The Order were all great games.. The Order just need some mp and Driveclub launched early however devs worked on it and its one of the best racing games I've played this gen.

R&C along UC4 are simply amazing games :)

Shadow Fall was the very first game I tried on PS4 and I just couldn't push through it beyond the first couple of hours. It looked really damn nice, but playing it was pure boredom. I've never been a big fan of the KZ games, but I did enjoy KZ2 a bit.

I thought Shadow Fall singleplayer was boring af the first time I played it. Couldn't even get past the first mission. Multiplayer was decently fun though not very active by the time I got the game but I could still find full matches.

Went back to the game months later to give it another try and I actually quite enjoyed the singleplayer this time. Though it still can't compete with the previous entries. The game should be pretty cheap now, give it a try if you're interested I'd say.

Killzone SF is horrible. And that's from somebody who really enjoyed Killzone 2 and 3. I usually play through shooters several times on all different difficulties but I couldn't force myself to play SF again. Some infuritating level design prevents me from ever touching it again.

Well as a certain liar on this board likes to tell people, what you have fun with is irrelevant, its what the industry says that matters. I have always been of the mind that the consumers are what drives an industry. So I say Infamous SS because I also had fun with that game.

How is KZSF? It has some moments but I was let down after loving 2,3.

If you wanted to play an FPS and were considering KZSF but have the option to play Halo 2 anniversary then celebrate an anniversary. It farts on KZSF
