You should check the 360's software sales last year. Back in January, the Xbox 360 only had an attach rate of 4.6 games sold per console. That's about the same attach ratio as the Wii has now (without WiiSports or WiiPlay).
Also, the 360 only managed to outsell the Wii's software sales 4 to 1 because of Halo 3. With 3.3 million units sold by Halo 3 alone, I would think that Halo 3 outsold the rest of the 360's own software sales by 3 to 1, too.

The wii attach rate has to be lower than that.

Nah. The 360 also just owned the Wii and PS3 in hardware sales as well. ;)
Software sales is where you actually make the money and gain the 3rd party devs.

360 didn't own anything. I own a 360, and even I think that sounds idiotic. The 360's flagship title launched, and it only managed to outsell the Wii by 20,000? Are you kidding me? No, it's not. With WiiSports and WiiFit, it's over 6.1 in the US. Look up Nintendo's annual financial report. The Wii's GLOBAL attach rate is lower, but that's because Japan only buys 3 games per Wii. In North America and Europe--i.e. the only places the 360 is selling--the Wii has an attach rate of 6.1 or so in NA and 5.9 or something in Europe. Minus 1.5 for WiiSports (1.0) and WiiFit (0.5), and you get a little over 4.5.

Exactly. I own a 360 - and even I'm not as dense as that guy. The Wii is more than likely going to obliterate the holiday sales charts.I still fail to see the actual relevance of "attach rates". I would like someone do a study of attach rates to put them in proper context. It's easy for companies to just shoot out this number, and for peopleto say "they sell more games." But do they? the Xbox had a higher attach rate than the PS2...but the PS2 sold WAY more software.
It is easy for people to say this number appeals to developers? BUt what if the attach rate is mostly dominated by FPS? Is a high attach rate really important to non-FPS devs then?
If attach rates actually represent a wide and diverse array of games, then i can see the standard claims as being true. But let's be realistic here. We have no idea as to the actual context of these numbers. All we know is the company releases this number themselves without analysis.
Proper analysis is everything.
