Final Fantasy XV Review (above 85% on Metacritic) Hype met?

Your thoughts guys? Does this hype you up even more for the game or are you waiting to see the user reviews before checking the game out? Game is currently on 86% on Metacritic so it must be doing something right. Picking up my copy in the next hour.

The hell? I'm loving the music.

with the rise of feminisim, PC, SJW. im surprised final fantasy no longer girly at all.

Not going to bother reading reviews since 13 was reviewed as a "good \ great " which it seriously wasn't.

The Demo was quite poor and the battle system felt sluggish but this is to be expected with such a demo which showed so little of the combat aspect of the game and more to do with showing graphics which isn't the main reason anyone plays a jrpg.

Will get when discounted after Xmas.

Funny i kind of liked 13 quite a bit, and dont understand all the hate it is getting... Never been a huge fan of sandbox games, so that might factor into it:)

To OP's question, i dont currently have a PS4, but was thinking of getting a pro for this, and KH3 and Ni no kuni 2(all time favorite jrpg), but probaly need to read a few more reviews before deciding whatever this game alone is enough to get one.

Graphics look alright. Stuff in the distance can look a bit shit, but it is a huge world. And yeah, the story is kinda vague, or not really there, so far. Then again, I've mostly been doing side-content.

@primorandomguy: Yeah, I like the combat, although it's more flash over substance. But I like the link system. I really like the magic system. Just wish I could cast more before it runs out (3 now, although you can upgrade). And I'm playing on Ps4Pro.

I loved 13 so for me the reviews were spot on. I know I'm in the minority though.

I'll be playing it on the Pro too, I don't get it till Wednesday though. Have you messed around with the graphics options on the Pro yet?

It has 3 modes. High, Lite, and Default. I got it on high, because I read it improves the visuals. It caps it at 30FPS though.

From what I am reading it seems like FFXV is basically the MGS5 os JRPGs.

Are you playing it on a 4K TV? High quality mode switches to 4K resolution from what I've read. I'm hoping for 4K res and HDR, still not sure exactly what the modes do yet.

I don't get the recent Final Fantasy approach to storytelling where you have to read a codex instead of just playing the game or watching movies or series to get the story.

Is that somekind of strange trend in Japan?

But more than a few people has said that you pretty much most see the movie/movies to get a larger picture of what the **** is going on. FF13 you had to go into the codex every 10 min to get what the **** everyone was talking about. It annoyed the jesus out of me.

@kaealy: Yeah FF13 was the worst offender in that regard.

I have no interest in this installment, if I do ever play it then it'll be months or years from now when it's on sale at a substantial discount.

Dunno if there's an embargo on this game but being out that early compared to other reviewers is usually suspicious.

"Unremarkable music"...well, that's unusual for a mainline Final Fantasy game. I'm interested to see what more reviewers and players think about the game. I really hope a Switch port comes out eventually so I can play it on the go and I don't have to buy a PS4 to just to play a handful of games that I want.

I'm surprised the game actually has some good combat. The demo at E3 made the gameplay/combat look so mind-numbingly dull. Glad to see my preconceived impressions might be wrong.

Embargo only applies if you signed to get an early copy.

Retailers broke release date, there are lots of copies out there and people already playing the game.

I have NEVER made it through an entire FF game. Not a big deal for some here, but some of us have been gaming since long before FF1. So it is for me. This series spelled out all that goes against my natural instincts for a long time. Turn based combat is KA KA imo. I don't wait for anyone to possibly hit me. Its ball cheese. The character names and designs screamed .........well, ok.

I have desperately tried to expand my Horizon(looking forward to it)s. So I am happy to READ some of this.

I got the game on Thursday and played it for about 15 hours. So far I'm neutral about the game. I just don't like open world games in general that much. The characters and dialogue are surprisingly good, the game looks fantastic and I love that it has german dubs. It plays okayish I guess? The fighting is pretty repetitive, magic is nearly useless as it's hard to aim in fast battles and especially painful since it hurts your own characters as well. I made the huge mistake of giving the camera guy (Polio or whatever his name is) a thunder spell and he shocked our entire team. This magic element mixing is interesting, but I hate how limited your magic usage is. Fishing is incredible boring. If it wasn't for the hungry cat side quest I wouldn't have bothered at all. I have no idea how the recipe learning works. This guy, Ignes or however, learns them totally random, like after a fight? oO I hate how limited car driving is. The enviroment is boring, but the enemies are interesting. This pinbal monster game is horrible, the Android version is MUCH better. The skills are very basic and I like the XP system of getting different bonuses depending on where you sleep and what you eat. I really love the interactions between the main characters, it feels fleshed out like Uc4. I also like how the camera guy takes pictures all the time and unlocks filters as shis foto skill improves. But in the end the word that fits the game the best is repetitive. I spent more time on Pokemon Moon even though it's one of the weaker entries into the series IMO. I'd give FF15 a 7/10, mainly for the characters

It really doesn't have great gameplay. It's pretty much choosing the weapon the enemy is weak against, hold circle while you hit it and evade by pressing or holding square. Sometimes you teleport to an enemy with triangle or on some random object to regenrate. And then theres the bar that fills during the battle that allows some special attacks by holding L1 and choosing one of your 3 companions. What you choose depends on the enemy though. If you have many enemies, you shoudl choose Ignes (the glasses guy) to mark the enemies so Noct can warp-attack them.

The musik does it's job, for FF standards it's rather weak. There are some good songs while driving in the car, but that's a minority of your time spent. You can also buy songs from other games like FF8 top play in your car.

In the beginning you can check out 4 pictures giving you an overview about the world. It also really helps to watch the movie to understand how the world works. However, even if you skip the movie and the short story tutorial you should be okay. Everyone can identify with "Prince on his way to marry a princess and is having trouble going there".
