Hermits getting f'd like usual.

Their overlords have them by the balls.

Also don't forget to buy that new 2080 RTX card for 1000 bucks there hermit, you need to be able to play your indie exclusives at 200fps now.

Lol. Says the guy who's balls are so clearly tucked away in Sony's pocket - all they do is squeeze them a little and you start damage controlling the gaming forum.

@briguyb13: I'm definitely not a Steam-exclusive PC gamer (I use GOG just as much, plus the Humble store, etc.).

You don't have to be part of the "Steam fan brigade" to predict that Epic's aggressive purchasing of exclusive rights is bad news for gamers, and the industry as a whole.

This isn't about friendly competition - they aren't offering a superior service that is naturally drawing away customers. Epic/Tencent are just outright trying to weaken Steam by investing their money in anti-consumer practices.

Well, whatever it takes to bring Steam down a notch or two.. good thing.

Steam has had a really positive effect on the PC gaming space, I don't really see the argument in taking down steam... just to take down steam

@R4gn4r0k: They don't need to be taken down altogether, just have some of their hold driven back. Competition is good for any industry.

They've almost become a dictatorship, as a lot of stuff they see as unfit gets removed from entire regions. Their client is intrusive, and the hoops one has to go through just to be able to play games offline is excessive, and then after a while you have to do it all over again. Their security measures are ridiculous: having to re-certify the same laptop or tablet over and over again, because they say they don't recognize your system, the constant security codes that need verification, all just to load up your games.

Why the hell can't they just sell me a game and then **** off and let me play it without those steps?

Agreed, we are a long way from plug-and-play, PC gaming needs to become way less intrusive.

Can someone help explain why this is so bad? Why is Epic store so much worse than Steam?

Maybe some competition will get Valve to start trying again and get us some sequels that we've wanted for 10+ years.

Real talk, Rocket League is a top 5 multiplayer game this gen. Why the hate?

@drummerdave9099:

Epic is not competing though. They're blocking out all competition and choice from the market, at zero (actually negative) benefit to the customer, all through nothing but apparently limitless financial backing. There are plenty of threads, videos and articles floating around the web on how their store is a barren, featureless wasteland - a big step back from STEAM for customers, and so far the response of Epic management to criticism has been to stick two fingers up at consumers and throw hissy fits at how unfair it is that they can't just leapfrog to the top of the market simply by virtue of the depth of their pockets. IMO, they have no interest at all in their customers, only in dominating the market by whatever means they can. It's not a good image AFAIC.

TLDR: competing isn't about crippling all other competitors so you can charge what you want; it's about offering a superior service or price to attract more customers.

To summarize the pro-Epic arguments:

"Steam gets a 6/10 consumer friendly score because of stuff.

Therefore Steam must die.

Epic gets a 3/10 consumer friendly score AND features - but if the 3/10 takes down the 6/10 it's still a good thing.

If you're anti-epic, you must be a mindless steam sycophant, and not someone who would simply prefer a 6/10 over a 3/10 - or perhaps prefer neither

GoG doesn't exist

Something about a monopoly - even though most big publishers don't sell on Steam or if they do they still have their own store. Meanwhile most indies sell on GoG.

GoG doesn't exist again

"

Looks like Epic is continuing to expand their horizon and widening their store profile.

@knight-k, It's time to find a new site to post that nonsense on.
