Don't you think it's a disgrace that Europeans have to pay more and get less?

Both Xbox One and PS4 will cost around 115 euros more than in USA! They charge 399 dollars for PS4 in the USA and 399 euros in Europe while for Xbox One is 499 dollars and 499 euros respectively! That's an insane price! 1.00 EUR = 1.3319 USD.

And in exchange they'll get lackluster online content with most fancy things region-blocked or non-existent. Is there any purpose to it at all?

It's been like that for nearly a decade.

And PS4 isn't region locked. So you can just import if the game doesn't release over here.

500 euros is a ton of money for the average working class family in Europe. It's a disgrace, nothing more to it.

Higher wages over here, but also our taxes are factored into the price. In the US, you pay extra for tax. It doesn't help that the US tax rate is about 6-10% while its 20% across most of the EU.

Our average yearly wage is more than that of an American's our minimum wage is also hgher, our tax is included in the price. Our money is just worth more than the USD!! Deal with it £349 is good value for the PS4 but £429 is a rip off for that cable box ;) <-------- system wars texts!!!

Apparently Europeans tolerate those prices. If the profitability of games and hardware in Europe is proportionate to other markets, maybe the pricing isn't so wrong.

it is disgraceful from a UK respective when you think the ps4 is being sold at £349 and the Xbox One is £429, I mean they are exactly the same spec wise, no wait ps4 has slightly better spec and xbox one you have to buy xbox live just to even play the thing, so the price then jumps up to £479 the real price is, which no one is even thinking about, at least when i get my ps4 i can go home and not worry and think o no i have to now pay another fee just to play. i can just plug in a play a game

so scrap that first price it's ps4 £349 and xbone £479. it's crazy.

Regarding the features aspect there all free on ps4 straight away with you only having to pay the fee for that feature, ie netflix. xbox has always had that you have to pay them first before even touching the features. the TV part isn't even available in our country yet and who needs another tv guide.

So for me personally I'm looking at it and thinking why should i pay over £100 more for something which has the exactly the same games will be exactly the same graphics with less variety in their exclusives. their is only one clear winner and thats ps4 for me, who ever buys into xbox one, is just naive because your buying into a future which nothing is yours. which i am not willing to be apart of, i have a pc for them games, a console is ment to be an easier option.

Technically we do get more in the EU as we've got a load of quality assurance laws that give 2yrs warranty on all electrical goods. US only get 30 days i think. I know here in the UK the average wage is quite a bit higher so the prices are kind of to be expected.

Is it proportionate?

Who knows.

They still put games out in Europe, so they must make money on them.

Of course, the higher prices maybe allow for fewer unit sales, which would mean enthusiasts make up a greater percentage of the market than elsewhere.

Right but my guess is they make more out of most European markets per sale.

America is a 3rd world country that would walk past a dying person on the street. If they even care in the slightest, they ask for their insurance first.

Insurance money > health! America! Fvck yeah!

------

Therefore it's cheap there. Americans refuse to pay enough taxes. They just want to spend it all on burgers and guns.

That is really odd. Minimum wage in Australia is $16 AUD/hr. The US is like $7.50 USD/hr. The "average" for the whole country doesn't really represent what it is like for the average consumer. Also, long time no see cake.

In Sweden we have 25% VAT, so the PS4 should technically be $499, but it'll actually be closer to $620. Where that $120 comes from I have no idea. Import fees add something I suppose, but not that much. This is how it has always worked though, so it's hard to suddenly get all upset about it.

Microsoft's US focus continues to spawn worthless value adds. So when it's $770, all their talk about services, apps and TV TV TV etc. does f***ing nothing to sweeten the deal.

edit:
Turns out the Xbox One is just $695. Actually lower than it should be. Usually the way it works is you just add a decimal and you get the price in SEK. $499 = 4990:-, but it's actually 4490:-

That's true but the median average does show this much better and still shows US way up on the list. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Median_household_income Reality is US citizens are amongst the best off in the world. It's only those on the minimum wage who are far worse off than their European counterparts. Also thanks nice to be back.

Unfortunately EU always pays more, its been like that since i can remember...

There are countries in EU where EUR399 isnt much but many others (Eastern Europe in particular) is quite a lot... It would be surely nice for most european countries to see they're paying the same amount like in US.. (example PS4 US399 roughly translates to Euro300 / GBP260)

I know gaming is a hobby/luxury unlike other things but its quite frustrating knowing you're paying more in your country for the same product(s)..

Yeah I feel for you guys. I worked somewhere in a team and suddenly it became half Polish to the point we all had to learn how to say hi, etc, in Polish. Which was fine. What wasn't fine is that I heard from some Polish friends I made there, they got paid like 3 times less than me because they weren't officially living here and did not get the same protection that I did from the law, so they had to work double or triple shifts... Basically the company was exploiting them as fast and as much as they could and there was very little we could do about it. It did help shape my perception of companies and question the USA philosophy that the company is always in their right to do what they want because they cannot do bad.

That whole idea of "MS should be able to do what they want because it is their box" is really not applicable to the reality of things. Allowing horrible practices in a system like capitalism will spread these horrible practices very rapidly and make it almost impossible to stop (legally or otherwise) and in the USA the public will even side with the companies because they 'can do no wrong'. I am very happy with the enormous backlash of the community against their DRM policies. If that backlash had happened a few months later, or not at all, we would have been in a very bad situation.

Greeks could be cheaper than chinese or pakistanis labour right now ... no offence... but just look at them, living on the street eating grass and taking SISA drugs ...... they desperately need jobs
