No matter how hard anyone tries to put a negative spin on BC especially Xbox BC, the harder they fail and make themselves look even more silly, especially cows. It's funny ass hell seeing these cows give excuses such as "the Cell was too powerful and complex, etc." that's why Sony don't do BC, LOL. There were games that doesn't even utilize Teh Cell, so they could easily put those last gen games on their current gen console, but they CHOOSE not to. All three current consoles have hardware limitations so all three can't offer traditional backward compatibility.

It's not MS fault they have a talented and capable team that figured it out and give their fans what they asked for and that's a form of backward compatibility. I mean, it's not like Sony doesn't have a team that are as talented and capable of doing the same. I mean you could stream their last gen games on their current console already, so why not figure out a way so their system could register last games you already own which could unlock those games for you to play without paying again. Again, it comes down to choosing not to. But I don't put the blame on Sony fully, since they are listening to their fans and Sony knows their fans rather pay to play their old games on current consoles, Sony knows that their fans rather pay for remasters of remasters.

At the end of the day, BC is an option that their fans requested and continue to request. And MS reaches out to these publishers or whomever, some probably don't exist anymore, but they still figure it out and put these gems on their current system as requested. Their fans wanted BC, they gave BC and even enhances them. Their fans wanted a more powerful Xbox, they gave them the most powerful console in life. Their fans wanted a more stable and complete online service online service, they gave them Xbox Live which is still the best console online service. Backward compatibility has always been a standard in gaming and should always be an available option.

Do we know proportionally how much time MS spent on BC?

Taking in consideration how many exclusive games they put out? All of it.

@gago-gago: But wouldn't you rather they used that effort to move forward instead of living in the past? B/C is great and all, but it's literally the only news coming out of Xbox these days. They're dusting off 2005-2012, and they're kind of stuck there. It's like listening to a guy hyping up his old high school football days. They can't move past them. It's like the Xbox division is living in this arrested state that wants to get by on our memories instead of picking up and moving on.

360 was a success because it didn't dwell on b/c. It had so much content that the past wasn't needed. They seem to be no longer interested in establishing a legacy for the future.

A great game is a great game, a gem is a gem. It doesn't matter how old the game is, if you haven't played the game, then it'll be new to you when you play it. You say the 360 was a success because it wasn't because of BC. So it's just common sense to bring whatever made the 360 successful onto the One. Again, their fans asked for BC, they put an effort into giving them BC. Their fans asked for a more powerful Xbox, they put an effort into giving them the most powerful console ever. So far with the current teams they have on Xbox, they've been giving their fans what they ask for. This is a false narrative that MS is just doing one or the other lol. #GreatnessAwaits

A high end PC can't emulate the CELL CPU at full speed, what makes you think a mobile APU can do it?

And I'm pretty sure it's not Microsoft that wrote the PPC disassembler/recompiler, it was another company.

Much like Microsoft Office was bought from another company and many of their software products and services over the years.

You can play those games on your PC using PSNow. All I'm saying, there are other ways to should let their fans access those games without paying again even if the traditional emulation can't be done. All three current console doesn't have traditional backward compatibility.

Streaming isn't an alternative to backwards compatibility. PSNow was never supposed to replace BC, the PS5 will most likely have PS4 BC regardless of PSNow.

The only reason the PS4 didn't have BC like the PS3 and PS2 did before it was because of the cell and they faced no pressure from Microsoft since the Xbox One did not launch with it either.

I mean so far these Xbox console fans are getting what they've been asking for. The games they have there now are always active. And I'm pretty sure if enough of their fans ask for a baby sitting story driven games, it will come. #GreatnessAwaits

I have been a Nintendo/Playstation fan 100%. But, I am glad I got an Xbox One S as it's my first (and so-far-only) xbox. So all the backwards compatibility has been sooooo awesome to help me get caught up on xbox games I totally missed having never gotten any previous xbox console.

Does TC spend too much time making threads instead of participating in existing threads? Don't bother with an answer, it's rhetorical. lol :P

And of course the answer to the question is a big fat No, unless you're a typical insecure SW MS/Xbox anti-fan trying to be in with the Herd looking for acceptance and act like you hate Free options offered by MS.

Have you even look at the XB1 library , that shi..... is so embarrassing that it now on the endangered list .

Pffftt, Just Sea of Thieves alone trounces the entire PS Bore library of Movie/ QTE games.

Serially, what a Borefest that crap system is. . If you're not gaming on Mighty X1X MonsterBox MasterRace, you're not gaming at all... Baby!!! lol :P

Dude I understand you feel that Sea of Thieves is a borefest, but Kratos put his foot up its arse and now its sh__ting 94 on the metacritic for GOD OF WAR :)

Yes, a great game is a great game, but they're also great for their era. Remasters and b/c are fine, as long as you have new content to balance it out, which MS just doesn't have, quality-wise anyway. You invest in a new box to get new experiences. Microsoft on the other hand seems to be going into a full regressive mode with their Xbox.

Did the fans ask for a more powerful Xbox on the whole? That sounds like the wish of a few depressed fanboys that got hurt by Digital Foundry articles. If the content on Xbox was running low, then why should you reward them with another $500 to get the same lackluster content with more pixels? Do you really need the splendor of Ashen in 4K? The thing Xbox gamers should have been asking for it more games, but they don't get that because they damage control everything, and MS learns the wrong lessons.

No. I think it was smart to focus on backwards compatibility as it's something Sony doesn't have (outside a terrible PS Now service) and it kept the story about it rather than their lack of newer exclusives. It didn't make a dent in Sony's lead, but it is a nice service for Xbox players.

No Xbox fan can be happy with whats happened this gen. If ms bring nothing to e3 it shows where they are in the console business.
