Could the Wii 2 force Microsoft and Sony to release new consoles sooner?

I bought a PS3 last year, in hopes that the console cycle will be much longer than anticipated, i.e., no new consoles until 2015 or later.

Now, with the Wii 2 rumored, are Microsoft and Sony going to strike back sooner than hoped? I mean, the PS3 is only about 3.5 years old, and the Xbox 360 is 4.5 years old.

Now, my PS3 is obsolete. Thank you, Nintendo.

No, because I guarantee you it won't get the 3rd party support the PS3 and 360 enjoy regardless of it's power.

Microsoft - What do you meanrelease a new one so soon!? Kinect just breathed 7 years easily into the 360. We have no plans to make a new console but we decided to raise prices on XBL even further!

No. Can't really say for sure with the 360, but PS3 still has lots of life left in it. Plus, the target audience of Nintendo consoles is far different than 360/ps3.

I hope if Wii launches in 2012, that it moves up PS4/XBOX3 into 2013 or even maybe to match the 2012 launch. That doesn't mean I'm going to run out and get it if it's $500, you can still wait a year or two to actually get it, and by then it will come down in price.

I say this and I didn't even get my PS3 until 2009

The Wii 2 is actually trying to be hardcore (as far as I know) so the casuals won't buy it.

the ps4 had a sudden halt in development just a few months ago....so i think sony is trying to stretch this gen out

Actually the PS3 is almost 4 1/2 years old and the 360 is almost 5 1/2 years old. Wii is also 4 1/2 years old. If the Wii 2 is released holiday 2012 it will be 6 years old (as well as the PS3). This makes the Wii one year longer than the Gamecube. I'm good for a new gen holiday 2012 or 2013.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Nintendo will not make a better system. PS3 & 360 gamers just relax. Nintendo is not skilled enough to make a system better than the 360 and dont even mention the PS3. You guys are still in good hands.

Not only that, but their online needs to improve. Nintendo Rewards are not as cherished as Playstation Trophies or Xbox Achievements. They need to get rid of friend code and have Nintendo accounts. Like Sony & Microsoft. Plus no way they will have better graphics than the 360 or PS3. They will have a new feature that has never been done before. Like a controller that blows bubbles at you when you die, or something cute.

It is and it will last until the PS3 or 360 is replaced. Those two systems are the STANDARD.

well , i know nintendo will be in a perfect situation if they did or not , cause a rushed console=a bad one ,,

and wait to long you give up any chances for wii like sales figures ,

and wait too to long, nintendo will be right on thier heels with wii 3 or what ever
