Could Nintendo get sued for cancelled the Wii U

They won't drop it yet. They fell into this same trap with the 3DS and now that is the best system on the market. They'll attempt to turn it around this holiday. I honestly think that's why Pikmin 3 was delayed again, they are gonna try and release Pikmin 3, Wind Waker HD and a few other titles, maybe Smash Bros and a 3D Mario, all at the same time, to get that big push of a ton of there major IP's releasing all at once. That should get the system a lot of attention, if it'll actually sell it, is another thing entirely, but they won't give up on it when it's not even 6 months old.

With the cancellation of the Wii U started to look like a very real possibility, will owners have any strong legal claims against Nintendo?

Because buying a Nintendo console you expect to get the whole Nintendo experience. If they're going to bale and stop software support this early in the lifecycle customers should receive reparations.
