So Valve listed the games that got their Steam Awards and no surprise that Baldur's Gate 3 got the Game of the Year.

https://store.steampowered.com/steamawards/?snr=1_stats_7001__12

Here are the list of games that won each award category

CategoryWinners

Do any of you guys here agree with this list?

I know that Starfield getting the most innovative gameplay award will get some interesting comments here 😂

Note: I recently changed the title of this topic by adding Starfield winning the Most Innovative Gameplay Award since that's what everybody is mostly talking about here.

Damn skippy. BG3 was a great time, even if they released it a bit too early with many bugs.

Lol Starfield for Most "Innovative" Gameplay. I didn't hate the game, but that award is silly.

Good for BG3, but frankly, this is the year the Steam Awards has become a joke. That's the only conclusion I can make from RDR2 (which hasn't had content update in years) winning Labor of Love and Starfield (AKA Loading Screensfield) winning Most Innovative Gameplay. I can only assume people were voting for them ironically.

I expect Gaben & co. to make some changes some time in the future once people kick up enough of a stink over this.

Just so people understand, Starfield won on purpose because we all were trolling and thought it would be funny.

There's multiple threads on Reddit and resetera dedicated to it

The hype train gets funnier each year.

I won't be following any of these awards as they seem to have become like Oscars celebrating garbage and ignoring gems.

Solid list of the winners except Starfield for "Most Innovative Gameplay Award" is a question as to why exactly? Well anyway, glad to see BG3 winning and even Hogwarts Legacy is getting some love finally in the Steam community.

I still can't get over how much trafic this game is STILL getting on steam after all this time. 146k concurrent and 237k peak 24h like wtf bruh. This is what Badthesda wanted so bad with Starfield, but failed miserably. As a matter of fact, the game has almost as many players as halo infinite🤡

Design by commitee always fails and games made with love and passion for the genre always tend to succeed.

When will corporations learn? My guess is never. That is my guess.

I'm also certain that "multiple threads on reddit and resertera" are not even a drop in the ocean or enough to sway the outcome of these votes one bit. The Steam community is gigantic and with Steam giving incentives there are just way too many people that vote.

This would be like taking credit for the outcome of presendential elections. Seriously.

Yeah ok, there is always a certain king of a popular genre, just like we have pop music. It's crap but it's what 90% of people find easy to digest.

But then the games that try cloning such games fail horribly, Battlefield is suffering from trying to copy COD and more popular FPS games. eFootball 2023 was hilarious and the best game ever made.

I could be wrong here but my theory is that when you see the list of the other games that were nominated for "Most Innovative Gameplay Award" Maybe the people who voted knew nothing about them but only Starfield and only chose it because that's the only game they were familiar with.

I remember seeing a lot of FIFA this year, you know the best selling game in Europe. So yeah it does seem like a popularity contest in a lot of ways. Starfield won because it is an AAA game amongst a slew of lesser known games. Remnant could've won but should it?

People are asked to vote for a VR game every year, eventhough a niche has played these games. And an even smaller niche will have heard of the 5 nominated ones. But again you're asked to vote for "some game" as you get a cool reward or incentive from Steam to do so. It's easy to just pick a name/franchise/game that you have heard of.

But my point is this, that these online boycots and "lets sway the votes to have something to laugh at" have way less of an effect that people are often led to believe:

I've played TLOU four times and never once thought "this soundtrack fades into the background". It's a really good soundtrack and I don't see why some people (anonymous internet shitposters) try to turn every category into one big joke.

The Video Game Advertisements are the joke, not this.

Larian Studios became mighty. Lifted up by the gamers via crowd-funding. Now a demi-god.

Bioware, once that benchmark everyone else reached for, corrupted, gobbled by EA. Not not even a company of note anymore. Bethesda is heading in that direction as well.

Larian completely schooled everyone. The industry pancaking that gamers might have the expectation they play games that work and not riddled with the pyramid scheme of the day.

Feel bad for the goons who bought Starfield, you were warned Bethesda was always mid, but didn't listen.

Well deserved! Larian are truly the king of RPG! Can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

And yeah let’s all pray that Sven are earning enough cash so he won’t be tempted to a buy out, I definitely see some MASSIVE checks coming his way in the near future!

That's a weird troll... so your saying people wanted to troll starfield by nominating it for a gaming award? Doesn't really make sense to me, I can appreciate a good troll. But that's not a troll.

@R4gn4r0k: True, and id be interested in seeing the margins.

People can affect an election in small groups if the voting is close enough.

Like if the polling is within the margin of error and 100k voters decided to vote for a particular candidate as a protest, or not vote at all.

I'd like to think that the voting was close enough (due to Starfield's brand recognition) and we were just enough to troll it over the top lol

@Pedro: Maybe it wasn't the most well-thought out troll? Lol.

When I was voting, I immediately voted for Starfield while laughing at the prospect of it being nominated, let alone winning.

That's what let me to googling and finding what people thought (selfishly for the comments lol)

I don't honestly think that it had an impact, I think people genuinely think the game was fun and unique in ways, even if it's not a "amazing" game.

One thing I really miss is Valve actually sending these awards to the team. it would've been nice seeing Todd Howards reaction after he was left standing in the cold on the VGA.

Back in the earlier years there was a small video about the winners. Now it's more of a digital thing.

Is that really a troll thing? Because I can't think of anything innovative to be honest. No Man's Sky already did most of what Starfield has when it came out back in August 2016. Starfield has more focus on the story, but haven't seen anything innovative so far. Don't get me wrong, there are lots of gamers who really liked it, and with a focused effort in a category with less stiff competition, it seems completely reasonable that they could pull it off🤷‍♂️

@AcidTango: yep starfield is a masterpiece it's true. Innovation at its finest, just like halo infinite before it.

Unfortunately spiderman didn't get that innovation award, because rehash movie station just does remakes, remasters and sequels.

I guess Halo Infinite was innovative, in the way that it combined the linear sections we all know and love with a sizable open world in between.

And likewise Starfield is innovative. Instead of a whole city or map you got a whole universe, with a lot of loadscreens in between.

I don't think anyone could objectively say these games aren't innovative.

But that's not talking about gameplay of course.

Lol. That Starfield award is PC gamer humor. Game has mostly negative user reviews.
