are Valve and Blizzard the best American developers ever?

Check the PC tab on metacritic and you will see that half-life, half-life 2 and the orange box are all on the top 5. I have never seen and American developer with such a hig quality before. Bungie, Rockstar, Black Isle, Blizzard, Bioware and many others are really great and all, but is Valve the best?

Valve is one of the best.

Blizzard holds the title for the best.

Starcraft, Warcraft, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, WoW, Diablo, Diablo 2.

All classics.

I think they are both great developers, but people often overlook other Western developers that also make great games.

Some other great developers I can think of;

Insomniac (r:fom & ratchet & clank, original spyro) , Infinity Ward (CoD, CoD2, CoD4, Rare (Goldeneye Perfect Dark, Kameo, Banjo), Turn 10(Forza), and Monolith Productions (the darkness, condemned, f.e.a.r.)

Valve and Blizzard are probably the two most respected developers in the business though.

The SP is what's the most overrated. It can't compare to CoD1's or UO's SP.

Monolith didn't make Darkness, they're too good to make such weak game :

They did however make NOLF 1 and 2. I don't care what people say...Monolith is easily the best FPS developer on the market

Black Isle would be the best US dev of all time.

Its a shame what happened to them, mostly because of Bioware's money grubbing contracts with them off using the infinity engine, and basically raping Black Isle in making the Baldur's Gate games, where Bioware took all the credit, although most of Bioware's input was from a tech standpoint, not from an actual gameplay creator standpoint.

We will always have Fallout, Planescape, Icewind Dale, and Baldur's Gate to remeber you by. But Black Isle you are PROFOUNDLY missed in the games of today. RIP
