After seeing all these topics on what Sonic games we own,i'm kinda curious how people would rank them.

My list(this includes crossovers):

 1. Sonic Generations
 2. Sonic Colors
 3. Sonic Adventure 2 Battle
 4. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games(Wii)
 5. Sonic Mega Collection
 6. Sonic Rush Adventure
 7. Sonic Heroes
 8. Sonic Rush
 9. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games(Wii)
 10. Sonic the Hedgehog 3(xbl)
 11. Sonic Advance
 12. Sonic the Hedgehog 2(psn)
 13. Sonic and the Secret Rings
 14. Sonic Rivals 2
 15. Sonic Battle
 16. Sonic Adventure DX
 17. Sonic Gems Collection
 18. Sonic the Hedgehog(psn)
 19. Sonic the Hedgehog 4:Episode 1
 20. Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games(DS)
 21. Shadow the Hedgehog
 22. Sonic Rivals
 23. Sonic Riders
 24. Sonic Adventure(PSN)(Game has greatly aged, and doesn't have game gear games to make up for it)
 25. Sonic Unleashed(Wii)
 26. Sonic Unleashed(PS3)
 27. Sonic Riders:Zero Gravity
 28. Sonic the Hedgehog(06)

I know, some people would question Mario & Sonic being over Sonic 3,but I'm not the biggest fan of Classic Sonic games..and I number one fan of M&S.

I don't remember Sonic Advance 2/3 enough to rank them, and Shadow is highlighted because that's where the "meh" part of my collection starts.

4. Sonic Rush Adventure
5. Sonic 3 & Knuckles
6. Sonic the Hedgehog (GEN)
7. Sonic Advance 3

It won't. Even Modern Sonic plays in 2D. There's camera pans to create fake 3D moments. I saw a gameplay demo on YouTube a while back.

Why? Why do people like Sonic Heroes? The stages so linear, the formation system fluctuated in quality, and the voicework for most of the characters is just uuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh.

It's not a horrible game. It tries to have the look and feel of the Genesis games with the 3 act stages, special stages and elimination of the Adventure fluff of hub worlds. It's not perfect by any means and I hate that it forces you to play the same game four times though. I'd rather play Heroes over a lot of modern games.

Fine,sonicphc.

Sonic Heroes(PS2) was the first Sonic game I'd ever played and at the time I only had a SNES, NES and PS1. So Sonic Heroes was the first next gen game I played(Mind you the PS3 was out at the time). I saved up money and got a PS2(around '07?) and Sonic Heroes and Madden 06. Being new to PS2 games and control sticks in general, I was quite the noob. The difficulty was ever-spiraling upwards, with great level designs I remember to this day. Beating the 'super-hard' City level in Sonic Heroes left me feeling great. I would also get stuck at parts like the forest chase part and the haunted mansion, and when I finally beat Sonic's Story, I was on top of the world. My young self loved the dorky songs and Sonic Heroes is still my favorite Sonic game.

I liked it since gameplay didn't change every act like adventure 2 and I suppose 1.The game would always have you blasting through with(at the time) Sonic Speed, and you won't stop to go fishing for Froggy or to find more pieces of the master emerald.

I agree there, Sonic is meant to be a mostly linear aracade like experience and as I pointed out, it tried to have the asthetic of the Genesis games. Now I played it on the GC, Cloud which may affect my opinion of it. A lot who played it on the PS2 played a much more glitchy, buggy version and even in our official reviews systematic notes I state to get the most out of Heroes, play the Gamecube version as the game was initially intended to be a GC exclusive like the Adventure ports but at the last minute Sega decided to port it since GC sales were crap. Also I get the impression that it was made mostly with kids in mind. Given this was when Sonic X was still on TV and a new generation of fans were getting into Sonic. Alot of said kids had PS2s so didn't have access to a lot of other games at that time. But given the colorful nature of the game, it probablly was geared at a younger set.

Plus it also took the more minimalist, simple story approach of Genesis games. Mostly "Eggman does something evil, Sonic and friends go off to stop it." With a little side story linking Shadow's storyline and Metal Sonic showing up to cause trouble even if the last line in the story is cheezy as hell. My guess was a lot of folks had gotten away from Sonic since his Genesis days, didn't have Dreamcasts and trying to reintroduce Sonic to the masses in a familar way was what Heroes was going for. They gave it the Genesis asthetic and setup but brought in all the characters to sort of introduce them to everyone who hadn't played the Adventure games. I mean it was the first Sonic I had played for several years after playing the Genesis games.

I put Heroes in the same boat as Secret Rings in that it's not terrible and has its moments, but definitely not the greatest game out there.

Oh I understand that. But like I said, there's a lot of things that make a great game, and sadly Heroes is just so linear and a lot of the enjoyment from the levels gets toned down so much when I'm forced to hack away at a ton of enemies which for whatever stupid reason don't always take just one hit to beat. If I wanna take multiple hits to kill an enemy and it's not a boss, I'll play an RPG.

What annoyed me was the level design just felt lacking at any given turn. Once you get out of Power Plant, you have a frustrating nearly grindrail exclusive zone, a gimmicky gravity-changing haunted castle (the last part of which will haunt me forever), and all around annoying setpieces and quirks. I admit the first half of my time with it (Team Sonic and Team Dark) was enjoyable, and Team Rose is okay, but Team Chaotix is just flatout annoying to play as and the voicework of Team Rose makes me want to stab my eardrums and put them out of their misery.

It's too bad too because the music and graphics are so good. SOOOOOOO good. But it's ruined by the team-based gameplay, I would've personally enjoyed playing the game as a single character at a time.

So in other words, it was just too hard for you.
JOKES!
Besides, they weren't 'gimmicks' they were smart and varying gameplay elements. You want gimmicks, go play Sonic and the Secret rings, Sonic & the Black Knight,Sonic 06, or Sonic Unleashed. -_-

Someone's getting a little raged out, yes. I at least enjoyed the gimmicks that Sonic Unleashed's Day Stages presents (except Shamar because f*** you and your vision-obscuring town clutter) but in Heroes it just feels so forced. One of the most stupid items IMO was the 3D ball bumper in the casino-themed zone (Casino Park and BINGO Highway).

It felt like they shoved the bumper in there purely to give a sense of that Sonic 2 Casino Night experience, and in some parts I appreciated it but there was like this one instance where you have to bounce upward using these bumpers and I think to myself "why couldn't they just add in a spring here?" rather than the bumpers.

Or those little glass plates that blip like the little thingies in Sonic 2's Casino Night that turn from green to yellow to red. They're fun in Sonic 2 because most of the time they're placed where a skilled or seasoned player (don't mean to brag but I'm at least seasoned with Sonic 2) can use momentum and just bounce around and off stuff including those little pieces, but in Heroes save for a few pinball parts they're placed in awkward spots like they're just there for forced nostaglia. In fact, this calls for a rant!

Many of your complains are just nit-picky. I can nit-pick SA2 until I think it deserves a 5.0. (which it sort of does. :P)

At least it didn't have that many bugs and glitches, and it was enjoyable.

Seriously? What can't your respect people's opinions on games?

Well I kind of agree on SA2 though I did like it once it was all said and done and at least it doesn't have fishing. Look pretty much every game after SA1 has really good parts and really bad parts.

troof. And the more well designed ones let you skip past the bad parts on subsequent playthroughs a la a time trial, level select or Unleashed's time changing mechanic. When SEGA acknowledges that most people are only going to want to replay certain parts of these games and gives them an easier avenue for doing that, I'm all for it.
