Well, I finally got around to playing RE6...that game feels like a really big missed opportunity. There's some good ideas and then there's some really bad ideas and then executed poorly half the time and executed pretty well the other half. Jake's campaign was easily my favorite followed by Ada's. Leon's is so goddamn boring and pointless for the first half plus you have Helena who just sucks. And Chris's campaign was probably the worst though, Leon's is pretty close, Chris's campaign is just flat and boring all the way through. Resident Evil has never been a bastion of video game narrative but it was always fun in a silly B movie kind of way, RE6 just sucks all the fun and excitement out of the narrative. It's god awful. None of the returning characters act anything like their old selves, Leon is super gruff and serious, Chris is a goddamn emotional wreck and Ada is some wisecracking, snarky action chick. Characters always took their situations seriously in RE but there was never this much goddamn senseless drama just for the sake of drama. Any opportunity they have to abandon established characters for the sake of drama, they take it and my eyes just rolled back into my head.
Not to mention the actual plot of the game doesn't kick up until half way through everyone's campaign and even then the villain's motivations are so unclear as is what the **** is actually happening and who's doing what. Needlessly confusing and somehow more ridiculous than RE5. Plus it's so goddamn uninspired, when it's not just aping off shit from past RE games, it just puts in some generic uninteresting bullshit. Neo-Umbrella? Another Raccoon City incident? Another giant mutant snake? Another intelligent B.O.W with the express purpose of hunting down one person? Oh look a level in a sewer, oh look a level in a church, oh look a level in some catacombs.
This all being said, I think Jake's and Ada's campaigns are solid, I really liked the dynamic between Jake and Sherry, they're easily the best pair in the game. And the actual gameplay mechanics are interesting and fun when they work out right, the problem is the game is poorly designed around the mechanics. If each campaign was like half as long, the game would be much stronger.
