its kinda hard to see the difference if your computer moniter isn't HD. thats like trying to advertise HD TV picture with SD TV adsSonicTheMonkey

Your point is moot since these are not even HD resolution, more DVD or smaller size.

And most computer monitors since forever can do HD, atleast 720p, but with LCDs it's harder to have one that does 1080p. But even if your monitor isn't full 1080p you can still scroll around with the image fullsize.

This is the size of 1080p widescreen:

Though, pics of an HDTV with HD always look better at any size compared to a pic of a SD tv.

[QUOTE="Miguel16"][QUOTE="BrownWalrus"][QUOTE="gizmo_logix"][QUOTE="BrownWalrus"]I was thinking of getting this since i'm on a really small budget and it seems to be a decent monitor, plus everyone seems to be loving it from the reviews.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112005

Check out the specifications to the right, it says it supports 1080p but people say that they are getting red/green pixels or something. Most seem to be loving it and say that it looks razor sharp with beautiful crisp colors. They also say it's bigger then it appears. People even said that it looks beautiful on their 360/PS3.

I just want to see what you guys think about it, and if it's a decent picture. I know it's a monitor, and that's exactly what i wanted to ask. It's a monitor, but it supports all the HDTV things and has really low ms (5ms) and decent contrast ratio (1200:1) and supports HDMI as well. What do you guys think? Will this look equally as pretty as on a, say, 26inch HDTV that supports 720p and has similar qualities? I don't mind the size, i just want to make sure that i can hook up my PS3 to it and get a pretty decent image from it.

That monitor has a lot of inputs. :)

So that's a good thing? =D

So the image would look pretty decent then eh? So it does support HD Like graphics?

supports hd no problem...still not sure on 1080p....but positively will support 720p

I have a monitor similar to this that has a 1680x1050 resolution, but on these monitors 1600x1200 is the MAX resolution, so it will support 1080p, even though you probably won't need it.

No, its the samsung HL-S5687W.  I believe the version your mom has is the older version and does not do 1080p, is that correct?  Try your settings to Dynamic, contrast 75, brightness 40, color 52, sharpness 40, warm2, DNIE on.  Hope that helps.

Nice GTHD shots^^, especially the ones of the black evo.  Thanks for the contribution guys, keep posting pics, hopefully we can get this into a sticky eventually if we get enough pics in here.  That way newcombers could see what its really about and overlook all the negative media.  I'll post more pics later tonight.

You mean 1920*1200 right, like on a PC 24inch LCD? Because 1600*1200 doesn't have the width for 1080p, if you try to fit 1080p widescreen on that you'd end up more with 1600*900, like 900p. And then most monitors don't have downscaling capabiltities.

The person asking how to get it too look like that should knows pictures are not exactly representitive of what you see from a quality of a tv in person. A tv with the worst blacks can look like the best tv in the world in a photo.

But it is always important to calibrate a screen for best picture.

HD would be considered 1280*720 at a minimum, that's more like slightly of above PAL resolution at 4:3.

But why do we need to see photos of a tv, the screens in the game sections if atleast 1280 wide show you exactly what HD looks like because most people's monitors can show HD, and though even at 800*600, as long and the screen doesn't shrink it to fit, you still get a good idea what it looks like, you just need to scroll around the image that doesn't fit the screen.

And photos add contrast and blown out exposure, or over saturated colors, so they might look different or better in a photo, but the direct stills in the game sections more represent the real thing you would see.

1280x720 is a widescreen resolution, and anything above 640x480 is considered HD because 640x480 has been the standard definition (SD) for years, my local retailer has examples of cheap HD set that wont do 1080 resolutions. Easy thing to do to check your moniter resolution is right click your mouse on your pc desktop in a space and select properties, select the settings tab and change your screen resolution higher than 800x600( windows only).i have ine set to 1280x960  then your monitor is displaying HD at least as high(if not higher) than any HD tv, job done.

I would not consider anything over 640*480 HD, I would just call it by their official PC resolution names and such and ability to fit an HD resoltuion. And EDTV is 853*480, by your logic it should be HD since it's higher res than 640*480. 720p is an HD resolution, 1080i is an HD resolution, 1080p is an HD resolution. Sure there are resolutions inbetween all that, but generally if you can a monitor that can show atleast 1280*720 then it's not capable of showing full HD. My widescreen laptop is 1280*800, it can show 720p, my extra 15inch LCD is 1024*768, it can't fit 720p, it's high res, but not full HD, making it a bad bad choise for HD, since it's mostly all in widescreen.

Sure there are resolutions inbetween all that, but generally if you can a monitor that can show atleast 1280*720 then it's not capable of showing full HD. My widescreen laptop is 1280*800, it can show 720p, my extra 15inch LCD is 1024*768, it can't fit 720p, it's high res, but not full HD, making it a bad bad choise for HD, since it's mostly all in widescreen.

this isnt my logic for a start, is the industry logic as i stated, but i will conceed that HD start at 720i not the ED tv you sproke off, but seeing as ALL computer moniter, even the cheepest 10yr old ones are at least this(720)then I stand by my previous statement that all pc moniters are HD even if they arent displaying it because of the pc setting, they will be capable, your arguing over pointless minor resolutions differances when all im explaining is that anyone reading this right now will be able to veiw any HD console pictures in HD, at 720i at least, thus being able to see the noticable differance between this and standard definition. OK!

Why does GT: HD look so damn real? If it's like this I really wonder what GT5 will look like...

the main focus or GT has always been to look as real as possible, its no suprise. Trouble is its usually at the expense of things like dammage modeling and customisation options. I bet it'll be good, but i prefer Forza

GT5 is supposed to introduce damage modeling and customization. With the models looking that real in only GT: HD I really can't think of how insane it will look when you crash your car.

[QUOTE="treyeumph"]There is a thread like this in another forum, and its a really cool thread with everyone contributing pics to help others see what hi-def gaming is like on PS3. Those of you with digi cameras and hi def tvs, I encourage you to post pics. I'll start it off...

sorry for quoting, what res is that? 1080p, or 720p? :)
